I've owned the F4S since they came out. Even though I've got both Nikon and Fuji high end cameras today, I held onto my F4S. I really do enjoy using her, she really is beautiful.

I bought a near mint Nikon F4s body off of eBay in near MINT condition a week ago and it is supposed to arrive today. I paid $185 with the MB-21 battery pack. I've done loads of video reviews of the camera and can't wait to put a roll of film in it and try it out. I know I will NOT be disappointed. I did wildlife photography in the 70s using a Minolta camera. I will never be an award-winning photographer but with this Nikon I know I will take pictures I will be proud of.

I just bought a F4 from a local recycle shop here in Japan. It was in great condition and came decked out with the battery grip and a multi control system on the back. Paid about 150 USD for it.

Hey Damian, even though I'm not a Nikon man I had to watch this. Film days = nostalgia days. Still remember the feeling shooting with my "iron sledgehammer" Canon F1 ... Running home to the darkroom and work with Tri-X, Ilford multigrade + Rodinal. Those were the days ;) ... Thanks for taking me down memory lane LOL... Enjoying your channel very much... You may not know how your video impacted to my pocket😄. Since I viewed this vdo last year, I get the F4 in 2 hour later(from japan) and puschased some lens in a weeks after. I enjoy my1st F4 the whole year happily. Now 2021 I've got another F4s to my collection..I shoot many rolls with both of them, fantastic profesdional touch and outcome, after 15 years that I leave the film system behind to work on fully digital format. Thanks to your beautiful vdo of temtation mint F4 copy. Now I'm back shooting slide, b&w, negative as I used to 2 decade earlier.

Built like a tank is the ultimate understatement for this camera. I have two of these and still working. Always cleaned and they have rewarded me with consistency throughout many years of use.. They don't make them like this anymore. A classic IMHO. ps nice vid. F4 looks in fine shape.

@@DamianBrown In my experience, I've been buying from Japan for a few years, they tend to look after their kit. only 1 bad experience and in that case got a refund without question. Have a list of about 6 regulars who always come through with presentable equipment at a good price. If you find a supplier who is good, keep them! I use mine with a 180mm Nikkor and 105mm DC. Great stuff!!!

I got my Leica M2 on Ebay. It is getting harder and harder, but still some deals to be had. Mine came from Hong Kong. Not a crazy deal or something like that, but about $200 less than what they are selling for in the USA where I live. I paid $870 for a super clean, excellent condition one. The thing looks like new. Some really clean stuff coming from Japan and Hong Kong these days.

Most of my cameras come from eBay Japan. They seem to have a big selection. As for vintage Nikons, the F2, F4 and FM2n complement each other very well. My personal favourite is the F2, but the F4 is the most versatile. The FM2n is an extremely good all-rounder, bit limited to AI lenses.

I've almost got an F4 from Japan so many times ... I own the F, F2 and F3. Only reason so far I've not is often the F4 has LCD bleed issues and often the Japanese sellers don't confirm either way if has a duff LCD or not. But man it's a lovely camera ... This video may push me over the edge to finally getting one. Looks mint

@@DamianBrown thank you, ha ha I am a bit of a sucker for the old pro body film cameras. Owned briefly the F5 and found it despite the size really lovely to hold in the hand. It's well balanced. Nikon make the F4 with a few different grips. I think you got the best grip though as it keeps the size down as much as possible

Warning about eBay F4: Watch out for needed missing parts. The listing I bought from did not lie -- he just listed what's not included with obscure part numbers without stating what they were and that they were necessary.. I paid $118 per the stated price, but then had to buy from other listings $41 viewfinder and $75 battery grip, both necessary to operate the camera. I must say the result looks like new.

Wow, that's what I call a camera in mint condition! I worked with F4 back in the day, and it's pretty straight - forward like yours (and mine) Fuji cameras. I have only one advice to give you - except in the winter (when's freezing cold) it's wise to wear glows when hand holding this camera. Ridiculous you say? Well, that rubber on the handgrip is sucking sweat from hands like crazy. Usually, after 2 years of daily use (daily, not necessary heavy) it would swell form that sweat and fall off. And I'm not quite sure that you'd be able to get and apply a new one these days...

I honestly don't see how pros do it. I had an f4 at one time but it was so heavy I just turned around and sold it. Yes its definitely built like a tank but if you have to use it say 5 or 6+ hours like pros do itd take a lot of muscle or a great tripod to do that. Im not saying its a bad camera by any means it worked great while i had it but the heft is just too much and imagine pros needing a second body as a backup or likely a third body for different speed film it just seems crazy to carry when one of them alone is so heavy. That said ill definitely give it to the f4 for not using expensive as heck batteries like some other cameras although these days its actually a deal to spend $15 on a battery but at least those are rechargeable not like the cr3 or whatever they were when I was getting into film when I was in high school.
@thegreatvanziniphotos5976

That is correct. I often carried 2 sets/bodies. A big photomic & a smaller reg F. One with shorter zoom one with a longer zoom. OR, 1 w/ color & 1 with B&W. Plus my bag w/ extrea batteries & my big flash. These many years later my neck remembers it all still. Now it tends to be small body Fuji's.... One at a time.

That weight is something pro's have to live with - contemporary cameras like Canon 1Dxmk2 or Nikon D5 are actually heavier, yet lenses remain more or less the same...
@IntersexGamer
@IntersexGamer 5 жыл бұрын
@@tomislavmiletic_ well yes and no I mean yes pros need the durability but they don't have to stick with the weight. Theres all sorts of cameras much lighter that are plenty durable without the weight. Im not saying you are wrong just that there are more diverse and lighter options than just the pro bodies.
@tomislavmiletic_
@tomislavmiletic_ 5 жыл бұрын
@@IntersexGamer "There are more diverse and lighter options than just the pro bodies". Yes, exactly! And I'm using one such lightweight yet powerful system these days. But back in the day, the only option for a electronic, autofocusing, durable motor-driven and yes weather sealed camera, aside of F4, was the original Canon EOS-1, both of which feel like a brick...

That is one mint F4 Damian. I am actually holding off until after the New Year before I purchase either a F4 or F5 from Japan. It will depend on what is available in mint condition at the time. Last week I went out got myself a brand new Nikon AF-S 85mm f1.8G Lens, and so far I have only tested it on my D300, and was impressed with how quick the lens focused. With that 85mm lens on the D300 it took it out to 127.5mm. I have yet to try it on my Nikon F60D Panorama that I got from Japan a few years ago. Damian have you tried your F4 on a lens like the one I have talked about above? I will let you know what I end up getting.
