Camera Review How is it going with the video comparing the f-lenses to the z-lenses? Im waiting for that one as you said it will come in the beginning of december. Really exited about that one because I can’t figure out why you think the z-lenses are not good.

I think you're looking at these f/1.8 lenses the wrong way. f-stops are not a determining factor in image quality. These new lenses are also not their budget line, but in fact pro-grade S lenses. The S Moniker is similar to the L lenses in Canon speak. It's like saying that a summicron is worse than the Canon EF 50mm f/1.4, and that's just not the case. These are premium, pro-grade lenses that are made to be small, but with corner-to-corner sharpness, and superb image quality. You might want to reevaluate your approach to these lenses.

Absolutely, these Nikkor 1.8 lenses are optically comparable to the faster, but manually focusing, Zeiss Otus lenses. At a fraction of the cost. In the past, wanting lighter, and smaller glass meant big compromises on quality, Nikon have done away with that flawed paradigm.

Pro-grade, what makes a lens Pro-grade? This lens is a cheap Chinese made lens that lacks micro-contrast and character. It is a budget lens but priced about 4 times what it should be selling for.

Camera Review Aperture does not equate pro-grade in any way, shape or form, so I'm at a loss as to why you think that f/1.2-1.4 lenses are professional. Trying to bash these f/1.8 lenses simply because they're not "fast enough" is just not a logical argument.. These new f/1.8 S lenses do have advanced formulas, and have the superior coatings as well. It doesn't matter where Nikon makes any lens, it was made to a higher standard, and Nikon will always ensure that quality control is implemented in their factories, regardless of origin. Obviously, this lens hasn't been released yet, so I'm curious to know why you think it lacks micro-contrast, and "character". And finally, I find it hilarious that you find Nikon lenses overpriced when you know that Leica lenses are way overpriced, but you seem to not care about that, right?

@@AbdonPhirathon When you have handled lenses for over two decades day in day out you may understand what a good lens is. For now, you can keep repeating the lines from Nikon's marketing pages. I suggest you attend one of my workshops so you learn what makes a good lens.

Camera Review That's good and all, but I've been shooting for 16 years, and I don't go around telling people that have been shooting for lens time that they do not know anything. I've owned and used Leica lenses extensively, so I'm not arguing about the image quality Leica lenses can produce. What I am saying is that Nikon's new S lenses are well-engineered, and provide outstanding image quality. Will they beat Leica's SL Mount lenses, not at all, but that's not what I was saying. Still, I'm interested in your workshops, if you cover the expenses, I'll attend. Cheers!

All z lens are good. The 24-70 z 2.8 is a premium lens.

All z lenses are made in China with plastic parts by third party companies. That is a good lens no doubt. Worth considering that there is a huge Nikon mark upon them too.

Perhaps you should read lens rentals and Roger Cicalas words about these Z lenses having some of the best and most rugged construction they’ve ever seen.

You're misreading their lens plan, while slower lenses are traditionally optically inferior. The Nikkor 1.8 lenses are optically superb, giving professionals who want lighter and more compact, albeit slower glass viable alternatives and a decent price, during the summer sale they were a bargain. Yes, they're more expensive and slightly larger then 1.8 lenses of old, but they're worlds better, if you want faster glass the Nikkor 1.2 lenses will be a big differentiator from the 1.8.

I don't misread lenses. I have been working with lenses for over 25 years both in cinema and photography. As far as this Nikkor lens is concerned it is a cheaply made Chinese lens that is sharp and light but lacks character and micro-contrast. It should sell about 200$ dollars.

@@CameraReviewchannel recommending Ken Wheelers videos means losing all reputation. All he knows is wired theories about lack of microcontrast by lenses with a lot of elements, while praising gf-lenses. He is just a lens collector who doesn't know how to use them. Never saw an image produced by him that is even mediocre.

@@metropolis3775 While Ken may not display his photos and he may not be a great photographer. He has extensive knowledge in repairing lenses and cameras which should be accepted with a degree of intrinsic value. Talking about lenses is a very different topic, taking great photographs is another.

@@CameraReviewchannel the problem with Ken Wheeler is that his opinions are very contoversal. On one hand he damns lenses with many elements, on the other he praises Fuji gf-lenses. Have a look, how many elements they have. By the way, it is very evident that he is a liar, I dont trust his expertise. It is also very clear, that he needs proffessional psychological help.

I’m just wundering wich Z lenses you have been trying? I have been using the Z lenses since they came out. I have the z35mm 1.8, z50mm 1.8, 14-30mm f4 and the Z24-70mm f2.8 and they are amazing. So it is strange to hear you did not like the z-lenses? They are performing way better then my f-lenses. And have much better build quality. So just was wundering What lenses you tried?

Camera Review Thank you for your answer. But I don’t understand why you refered to another video? I was wundering what lens you tested from the z lenses? Because you said you did not like it? And I want to know wich lens/lenses was not good because I now invest in their lenses and so far they are amazing but if you found a lens that was not good I would appreciate to know wich lens this was so I don’t go and buy a bad lens :) Thank you for your reviews! @@danielhedquist9830 Hi Daniel. Firstly, let me state this Z lens like many new generation lenses has very good specs on paper. However, the lens design is always a trade-off what the result is on a lens like this 24mm lens at wider angle view is lack of micro-contrast which is very different than sharpness. Also, the character element is very flat without the distinct 3-D pop that comes with a lens design that has fewer elements that don't attempt to overcorrect the projected image on the sensor. This is an issue pretty much throughout the Z line of lenses more pronounced at wide angles and less so in longer focal lengths. I have tested all the lenses in Z's line up which if bought for reasons other than image quality can be argued in their defense. At this time, there are a lot of lenses that are out there that can be adapted to Z cameras for a lot less and get far superior image quality.

Camera Review What are you talking about? Wich lenses did you try? And what was it in the pictures you did not like? I don’t want to know the specs or how lens element are. I want to know what you did not like with the image output from the lenses?

@@danielhedquist9830 What is not clear in what I have written above. Let me clarify it once more. The lenses that I have tested from the Z Line include 85mm, 50mm, 35mm, 24-70mm, 14-30mm, 24mm, 16-50mm. Out of these lenses, 24mm, 14-30mm, 16-50mm are the worst performers. As I already stated they lack in micro-contrast and have a very flat profile in image renditioning.

You are completely off regarding this lens. These f1.8 Nikon lenses are in a completely different league from most other f1.8 lenses. They have an a whole other level of colour contrast, sharpness and rendering that put them apart from Nikons older f1.8 lenses or Canons current f1.8 glass. What these lenses are is professional quality build and optics at a lower price than brighter glass. It’s a brilliant move and the number 1 reason to go for this system. I would recommend you actually try them for yourself and compare with basically anything else.
