Thanks a million... Always waiting for your content on new gear... Really aweaome... Though I was a little disappointed in the lens as you said it kept losing focus... I mean it's the best Nikon has to offer... Is this a pre production lens???

Matt has got it right. When you are using a big prime, if a bird lands in front of you, you are out of luck which makes a high quality zoom lens very important for wildlife photography but so far the big boys are still making only expensive primes with the exception to Nikon which at least throw a TC in so that we have another option on the fly. I think OM system has got it right with the 150-400 f4.5 with a 1.25 TC built in. I hope the full frame companies will consider making something similar like previously the 200-400 f4 with a 1.4 TC but much lighter version.

Thanks Matt. Great info. I have a 600 f/4 ( which I think I’ll sell ) and the 800 pf for small wildlife. The 400 seems perfect for field sports. So I think I’ll go for that. Side note: have you found a way to live view tether your Z9? It’s becoming the bane of my existence. Not sure what it is about this camera that challenges the software out there. Thanks again

Have to say I wasn't at all blown away with the shots you got from the Z9 with these lens or the AF performance, would be interesrting to see them compared to say a D5/6 and the F mount version of these lens for the same shots.

400mm 2.8 would be awesome for wildlife in the rainforest or forest environment and with a 2x for stuff like waterbirds etc. 800 5.6 is pretty useful
@shang-hsienyang1284
@shang-hsienyang1284 Жыл бұрын
But it's also much more expensive than the Nikkor 800mm f/6.3, which itself makes the Z9 a compelling camera to buy even for someone who shoots with other systems.
@geofflongford2008
@geofflongford2008 Жыл бұрын
@@shang-hsienyang1284 But the 2.8 Max aperture is what is most useful in the forests. You can't reduce the focal length of an 800 where as you can increase the length of a 400 or 600.

@@shang-hsienyang1284 Ps. I wasn't talking about expense. These are dream lenses for us plebs.
@shang-hsienyang1284
@shang-hsienyang1284 Жыл бұрын
@@geofflongford2008 true, but the Nikon 400mm and 600mm primes are so expensive even compared to Sony and Canon's offering. It's definitely more convenient, but the US$2000 and US$2500 differences is too massive, especially when Nikon's internal teleconverter creates a slight green tint and no sharpness benefits compared to external storage teleconverter, as shown in Steve Perry's review. In comparison the 800mm f/6.3 is a huge bargain (as long as it's in stock) and any wildlife photographer with the budget should give it a try.

Sbiricuda: these lenses ain't exactly cheap price-wise however, when you think that at a flick of a switch you get another focal length and you see that you can sort of 'zoom in and out' keeping basically a prime lens then we've got something very very special from Nikon! Not to mention the optical qualities that are outstanding thanks to the Nikon's flange distance (the shortest among the tree big boys out there!).

LOL. Bokeh is awful. Hardly any of the shots are in focus, or tack sharp. Colors look like Canon --- not a positive comment. Contrast is poor. If you told me you took those photos with a $100 kit lens, I would believe you. Nikon has lost their ability to produce superb glass, which is the only thing they were superior at.

That’s what my Nikon Z9 doing after 100 shots. Monitor is blinking .Nikon service keep it for one month and try to charge me for monitor replacement. The pictures looks the same as my screenshot. I send it back to Nikon and can’t get information what’s wrong with it. The camera has warranty. I don’t know what to do in this situation? I called many times to Nikon and spoke to many service advisors and supervisors, but I can’t get answer what’s wrong with it or when it’s goin to be ready.🫣🫣
