Unpopular opinion: Trent ages like wine. Every album since Not the Actual Events and Gone Girl has just kept getting better
@ground52952 жыл бұрын
TBH, I don't think he ages at all. Or, rather, his aging is very erratic and unpredictable. You get an album like The Slip, then you get an album like Hesitation Marks, then you get an album like Not The Actual Events, so on. Basically what I mean is, Reznor has a nuance to his albums, not due to his maturity or aging, but due to him as a person. I think Reznor is one of the few people who understands the concept of variants of decay at such an unexplainable level that his music is both so alien and so natural at the same time. While most of my favourite albums by him feature some of his most moving vocals and instrumentals, I can't help but respect and love the work that I don't particularly like. That's something I can't say about other artists from some of my other favourite genres, take for example big beat acts The Prodigy, and The Chemical Brothers, aswell as drum and bass act Pendulum. Even though I could never and most likely will never experience the same amount of pain and loss and grief and sorrow as he has, aswell as the numbness to it all, I can't still understand and empathize with it just from his music. For that reason, alone, I truly love his work. Not only has it saved me and continues to save me, but it has also shed a light on my path forward, on what I want to do, the person I want to be. I don't want to be Reznor, nor do I want to be like him. I want to be inspired by him, as I am right now. I want to make the people around me proud, I want to make people inspired, I want to hold a light to Reznor. Not because I idolize him, not because I respect him, but because I want to unravel this thread for many years, past him and past myself. In a way, I want to make him proud, because that would mean I did something that I couldn't do for my mother, my father, my grandfather, and later on in my life, my grandmother, my cousins, my aunts, my uncles, my friends, myself. I don't know how I'll do it, I don't know where to start. I don't know what to do it with. Music? Stories? Games? Movies? Shows? Videos? I don't know. All I know is, I want to dedicate my work, or works, to someone or something, or everything. Maybe I should start with the thing that's kept me going for a long time, mods. Hell, Half-Life 2 is one of my all-time favourite games in the world, and his music fits the world of it. It'd be a start. Or maybe start by making a game soundtrack from his music? Man. I have so many ideas, so much free time, so much creative potential, but I really don't know how to improve. I can't really teach myself, and I suck at going out of my comfort zone, but I gotta start somewhere. I don't know. I guess what I'm trying to say is, for all I've gone through personally, I just want to make someone happy, or proud, or whatever. Not with my words, my morals, or whatever; but with my actions, my work, my skill, my idea, my concept. First off, however, I need to help myself. Maybe that's my start.

Love that song. Listening to this, I feel like Trent & Atticus have really progressed through their film scoring--the sound in this is so much fuller, and I feel like there's more direction here than in Leaving Hope (but maybe that was by design too, wouldn't put it past Trent).

I'm in tears listening to those blip blop kind of Synth tone...😍 ohh dammn..❤️❤️❤️ I have depression and I often find it difficult to get a sound sleep. Let alone sleep, agitation, rage, anger, anxiety and restlessness keeps bothering me. However this piece of music and the track Letting Go While Holding On help my mind to calm down and helps in sleeping as well. Thank you for composing these epic music. when i find myself in a state of depression, thoughts with my inner voice racing thru my head, questioning everything and everyone from my past, presence and expected future i once was asked: who is this voice talking to? reflecting/meditating on this question helped me to stop identifying myself too much with my own thoughts and "regain" control of my head. maybe this can be helpful, maybe not.

Thanks Trent, Thanks NIN 😊

I rarely comment, but this is poignant for me. Not being able to be with a significant other. Just his heartbeat, syncing my breathing with his and his smell. 15 months since I’ve seen him. And whether it is possible for him to be here in the next couple weeks is touch and go? With illness I may find this is our last chance? Anyway, just got to keep going, keep smiling. But who or what has brought this upon us. There may be a reason, and I got to find out why. Who knows?
