did anyone else not need to change the exterior band voxels? For some reason, my viscous fluid went in the container at the default settings unlike what happened in the tutorial.

Hey! It's highly likely considering that there'd be some variance in the glass shape that we'd each settle on. Some might not need it simply due to their minor shape differences. Thanks for bringing it up!

Best tutorial series on Houdini hands down! Not only you go trough the issues that appear during the recording (not just making it from a script, or explaining already what's done), but also showing different solution in details 👍

Great tutorial. In case anyone else runs into it, the age attribute won't appear in the Geometry Spreadsheet if you are on frame 1 in the timeline, as no particles have yet aged- if you are on frame 1 it also won't appear in the dropdown when you do the color node.

I just wanna say thank you for all you have been doing for us, I know how much effort you have put into these. Your channel has to be grown like 1M subscriber very soon. I can see it dude. Keep it up, man! I am also a CG artsit, I mean I am trying to be. I am in school for it and also study on my own whenever I find time. Cheers brother.

Hi, another great video. You explained things that I've done many times without really knowing the reason why - just assuming it's what has to be done. The foam stuff is amazing to know. Looking forward to other parts. Thanks.

@NineBetween these tutorials have been absolutely phenomenal in a realm that remains pretty ambiguous with the rapid pace of iteration. I had a question regarding FLIP fluid setups like this. What do you find to be the best method for injecting and controlling some turbulence in the velocity is?

This is really nice! I created something similar for a class project... the volume loss nearly killed me! Good to see you go through same and show how you solved it. 👏 I want to ask if the foam group can be used to add bubbles? I planned to add bubbles to my sim but i couldn't figure out how to do it.

Thanks for the comment! Yeah, it's a really common issue with small scale fluid simulations, but there's loads of ways to get around it. Yes! That's exactly what we're doing in the next part😉

How do you have so much foundational or theory knowledge about Houdini nodes, just curious how you achieve that ? Books or websites ? What’s the secret :)
@NineBetween
@NineBetween 6 ай бұрын
Hey! At this point, it's been years of using Houdini and experimenting. I often make small, ambitious projects that I can learn something new from. Tutorials, workshops etc. are all helpful, but trial and error is extremely helpful.
@vytasrauckis6703

Everything went perfectly for me until the color node for visualizing the density. Although the color node settings are exactly like yours and the density attributes for density go from 200 to 1000 as you coded, the visual I get is still the same as the visual for velocity of the particles (starts light blue from the emitter and gets darker blue in the glass). Is there a setting I missed?
@vytasrauckis6703
@vytasrauckis6703 2 ай бұрын
Now I figured out the issue. flipobject nod has a Visualization tab under Guides. Particles were checked which seemed to override any color nodes. So when I unchecked this, now I got the correct visualization for Density and Vorticity. I don't recall this in the tutorial anywhere.

Fantastic tutorial series and it is such an amazing resource. As a question, what happened to the book you were writing? VFX Made Easy with Houdini, according to the publisher it was cancelled. Such a shame as it looked fantastic.
@NineBetween

Thanks for the great comment! We were about halfway with the book, but I wasn't happy with the route that it was taking and didn't want to put it out. It's a bit disappointing, and a lot of work was put in, but it just wasn't what it needed to be, unfortunately.

Thank you for the tutorial it's really great! But I have a problem. I'm working with another shape of the glass and I'm still loosing the volume completely. Even if I turn off the reseed. What can be the reason?

Hi, I am trying a shot with vellum. A creature (rebelway wreck havoc one) is breaching from ground. So as the sand drips from its body, the chunks appear same size, I want bigger chunks and smaller chunks that variation to be there. How do I achieve randomness in chunks it ?
@NineBetween
@NineBetween 7 ай бұрын
Hey! Try out the cluster points node and then use that in a Vellum glue constraints node. You can also use an attribute noise to create randomness in the glue strength. I briefly touch on similar concepts in the Vellum part of this series here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pLelidKJqqfemYk.html

I'm having an issue, it might be the version (currently using 20), but my vdbfrompolygons isn't behaving well. Normally all I can see are a few scattered points, I increase the voxel size and it makes it more solid but still not right (this obviously crashes on simulation). If I check "preserve holes" it appears as normal, but when animating the lid is viewed as a solid so doesn't flow into, but off the surface. When I turn this setting off the fluid enters the cup but dissolves relatively quickly so no volume is established. Any ideas? or have I just found a bug with the new version of Houdini? * Update * I managed to make it work by using a vdbfromparticlefluid node instead and reducing the particle separation to something low like 0.005 (note, I do not know if this has an undesirable end result besides increasing the simulation time)
@vinhtran3652
@vinhtran3652 Ай бұрын
I had the same problem. After using your method, the volume loss is huge. So I went back to check every step & I found an error. Make sure you turn on Output back in the PolyExtrude node. That did it for me

Hey, i m facing a different behavior in my glass and I can see that my version 19 in the curve node the primitive type is bezier curve as a default, if I switch to polygons it messed up my polyextrude and the subdivide also etc. any solution? plss :)
@NineBetween
@NineBetween 6 ай бұрын
Hey, you could perhaps try a resample node on the curve and then adjust the number of curve segments. I would recommend updating to 20.0 though, if you can. The rendering part of the series will only be possible with H20.
