This is just an awesome arrangement with the same sophisticated harmonies also evident in Deep Purple. But that's just the start. Nino and April are performers made for television. Few performers could have the camera tight-in on their faces for so long and pull it off as they did. It looks like they really were having a good time doing this, with natural engaging smiles that certainly looked real. So refreshing to see happy people!

It's so uplifting to see people enjoy entertaining others and smiling as they perform. It can really elevate a person's mood. So many youtube videos bring us back to this type of entertainment, which we don't really see today. I always liked Nino and April. Nino is a very talented tenor sax player. As noted above, on this day in 1964 {March 14th} Nino Tempo & April Stevens performed "Stardust" on the Dick Clark ABC-TV Saturday-afternoon program, 'American Bandstand'... At the time the song was at #34 on Billboard's Top 100 chart, the following week it would peak at #32 {for 1 week}, a week later it was at #33 and that was also it's sixth and final week on the Top 100... It reached #10 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary Tracks chart... "Stardust" was composed by Hoagy Carmichael in 1927 and recorded by hundreds of artists with four other versions making the Billboard chart; Artie Shaw {#6 in 1941}, Billy Ward & the Dominoes {#12 in 1957}, Nat 'King' Cole {#79 in 1957} and Frank Sinatra {#98 in 1962}... Between 1962 and 1967 Tempo-Stevens had eight records on the Top 100 chart, one made the Top 10* and it reached #1, "Deep Purple", for one week on November 10th, 1963... April Stevens, as a solo artist, has charted twice on the Top 100, "Teach Me Tiger" {#86 in 1959} and "Wake Up and Love Me" {93 in 1974}... While Nino charted once as Nino Tempo & the 5th Avenue Sax with "Sister James", it reached #53 in 1973... * Nino and April just missed having a second Top 10 record when "Whispering" peaked at #11 {for 2 weeks} on January 12th, 1964...

Their album, Deep Purple was the first album I ever bought! I played it on an old mono record player. I am surprised that I can still sing along and remember the words! I loved that song and their voices together...I must have seen them sing it on American Bandstand... I had to have it, and I was 14. The Beatles came out the following year...Can't believe I'm "Vintage" now! Never heard them sing this song, and never knew they were brother and sister! They are both still alive, she is 92, he is 87...Thank you for sharing this one!

And now the purple dusk of twilight time steals across the meadows of my heart high up in the sky the little stars climb always reminding me that we're apart Sometimes I wonder why I spend the lonely night dreaming of a song the melody haunts my reverie and I am once again with you when our love was new and each kiss an inspiration oh, but that was long ago now my consolation is in the stardust of a song Beside a garden wall when stars are bright you are in my arms the nightingale tells his fairy tale a paradise where roses bloom though I dream in vain in my heart it will remain my stardust melody the memory of love's refrain.

Never knew why they didn't post the lyrics up near the camera lens rather than down low where it's easy to see the singers eyes looking down.Bobby Darin in his later years had the camera farther away with cue cards for Beyond The Sea just under the camera in large print. He looked like he was glancing at the crowds and not the lyrics.

Thanks for the reply; Wikipedia claims April 29th, 1929 while 'Google' homepage for April Stevens states April 29th, 1936... And last(.)fm, allmusic(.)com, songfacts(.)com, bornglorious(.)com, famousbirthdays(.)net and on-this-day(.)com all agree with Google... So I guess anything on Wikipedia should be taken with a grain of salt... Thanks again...

I love the vocals, but someone thought it would be a good idea to have a metronomic beat. This is a song that the best follows the words. In many places the words are rushed because of it. I still think Hoagy Carmichael did it best. If course, he wrote it

After knowing Willie Nelson's version for so long, this sounds far too rushed. I know they were trying to follow up Deep Purple using the same formula, but this one doesn't flow as nicely. Their take on Whispering on the other hand was much better than this.

The most recorded song in history (and deservedly so) but this version is a competitor for the worst interpretation. Does Nino Tempo understand the lyric? and what's with his tempo? April Stevens doesn't do any better. The song's an elegy, for heaven's sake.
