I’m on my first play through and I chose Haley as a love interest from the start simply because I never hear anyone talk about her and I was curious. As I got into the game I saw the mean girl vibes but could kind of tell that it was all a facade that would crumble as you got to know her. I’m really satisfied with my choice because she has such growth and is practically a different person once you’re married (the girl feeds animals, waters crops, and fixes fences for crying out loud!). We need more love for Haley! Great video!

She’s an even better character if you headcannon that she is standoffish to you at first, because she can’t fathom why one would want to leave the city. She feels trapped; desiring to experience all the new and exciting things the city can offer. She desperately tries to live an urban lifestyle, hoping it will bring her joy. She is clearly depressed, not wanting to leave her room much and struggling to get out of bed, somedays. As she becomes closer to you and learns more about your character, she probably begins to understand the character’s motivation for moving out in the first place. A person wishes to escape the city, feeling trapped in a noisy, cramped, and overwhelming cycle; Haley wishes to leave, feeling trapped in a quiet, empty, and underwhelming cycle. In a way, both your character and her can kinda be seen taking a journey together. The farmer has to build from the ground-up and Haley has to deconstruct a (sad and likely) future where she can’t move to the city - not while she struggles to take care of even herself. Overtime, she takes steps to do this. She got a hobby, which is a lot for a depressed person to do. She learned to listen to others and to stop projecting bitterness from her situation, onto others. She makes good memories which makes her environment more meaningful. She bonds with the farmer. She found ways to love where she lived. As someone who grew up on the rustbelt in America, it’s something I’ve kinda seen with a lot of people I grew up with - all of them stuck in dying towns. Feels helpless and it certainly made the fashion forward girls of my dying town bitter teens and/or adults. Haley feels like the result of somehow bringing life into her dead town - both for herself and for others. Don’t really like how they completely hallmark-channeled her at the end, but she’s lovely once you get past her wall of bitchiness.

Haley was the first person I married, and we are still married six in-game years later ^^ She’s actually really sweet after a while Funnily enough, the first thing I gave her was a fish 💀

i chose haley as my first romance for my first ever playthrough of stardew and i didn't even realize it was supposed to be difficult 😭 i managed giving her foraged daffodils and sunflowers that i grew and i never knew she was supposed to be difficult to marry LMAO

I love Haley because she has a great Redemption art but unlike the other characters with a Redemption Arc she actually stays a better person after marriage. The other Redemption Arc ones backslide though

Haley may not be the best at first but she is the best spouse. Says very sweet things to you constantly, even at fest of the winter star. I've married 4 other bachelor/bachelorettes and she's my favorite so far.

Besides, Haley supplies you with Omlette once in a while. She feeds your life stock, waters crops and repairs fences.

Unpopular opinion: Haley is actually good/cool, and has a good character arch Abigail is high maintenance and childish and doesn't change the more your relationship with her progresses.

In terms of character development, I do think Haley is near the top. The more you get to know her, the more depth to her character you get to see. I think that’s a great story of the relationship of the player and Haley connecting. That said, she still doesn’t rank overly high for me because you need to go through a lot of dialogue where she’s dismissive and judgmental of your appearance-it leaves an impression, you know? That works on some people, though, haha.

I haven't married Haley but I really love her character development. She becomes such a different person and it's nice to see. I think my favourite has to be Shane - the guy is struggling so much with his addiction, depression, and even think about taking his own life, and in the end he manages to turn his life around. I also really like Harvey. I feel like a lot of people don't marry him because he's older and has a moustache. Ngl, I also used a portrait mod and removed the moustache (I'm just not a fan of it). But as a partner, he's amazing! He prepares a healthy breakfast pretty often and does work around the farm if I recall correctly - when he isn't going in to work. He also feels like a regular character, instead of a stereotype. I mean, I like almost all bachelors/bachelorettes, but they fall into some categories at least at first (mean girl, jock, emo girl and boy, artist girl and boy, etc.), meanwhile Harvey is just another guy. He works as a doctor, he likes helping and caring for people (shown by him always telling the farmer what they should do to remain healthy, and him cooking a healthy breakfasts after you've married), he has a pretty common fear (he's afraid of heights), and he also has a dorky side and a hobby, he really loves airplanes and is very enthusiastic about them. It feels like he could genuinely exist as a real person. I'd definetely recommend him to anyone who hasn't tried yet. As I said, he works on the farm and also makes you breakfast every now and then, he's very nice and expresses his love for the farmer. Just maybe get a portrait mod if you dislike the moustache! :D

Originally I was going to marry Abigail because you can get cherry bombs etc. But once I met Hailey I frickin loved her! Like the character development is amazing ♡♡♡

I chose Haley as my first ever wife and I couldn’t understand why people said she was mean because for some reason, I got some really nice dialogue from her the first time I met her. I forget what she said but it wasn’t the standard rude comment that everyone complains about. She actually wasn’t that rude to me for my first char. My second char def got the rude dialogue and I was like: huh, now I get it lol.

In my own first playthrough, I chose Haley mostly out of spite (her pre-six hearts character is indeed quite shallow) and a little bit because she reminded me of an ex of mine. I haven't touched that save since November 2018 or so apparently, since that's when NexusMods says I last downloaded certain mods, and I don't think I updated the game on that computer since early 2019, so that is still before the update that lets you have multiple partners before marriage. Meanwhile, my second playthrough (which is on my Switch and feels weird using those controls instead of the original WASD+mouse, very slow going) started with Leah and is the first time I'm going for the multiple girlfriends for the group ten hearts event. The second? Haley. ;) My _third_ playthrough, however, is on my current laptop and I decided "screw it, I'm using mods from the start" and gonna see how quickly I can speedrun romancing Haley as my first girlfriend while using the items-as-name exploit since I can't do that on Switch.

Haley has a great character arc. She doesn't sacrifice her dreams to live on a farm. Her dialogue as a wife shows great character growth. The gifts she gives are not fancy, but they are useful.

fun fact in stardew valley the time for a baby to be born is 14 days if they're humans that would mean it should be 9 months so one season is 18 months (1 day (or maybe 1 stardew valley hour i did so much math im getting confused) is approximately 20 real life days if my math is right) so that would make 1 stardew valley year 72 real life months of 6 years so now getting married to someone in winter 22 of year 1 seems a bit more accurate to real life

I usually go for Haley, and Elliot. I don't feel like like I'm crushing their dreams so much by doing so. They can do what they are interested in on the farm, I wouldn't stop her doing photography wherever she wanted. It would be nice if they left the farm to do stuff, I know there's a mod for that but it should be base game.

I am currently doing a Second Playthrough, Having dated and Married Penny on the first one (She is literally the sweetest and is hard not to fall for her first time, unless you found yourself around Abigail, then it becomes a Eenie Meenie Miney Mo moment). But now I tried going for Haley, and found that not only is her Loved Gifts somewhat easy to come by (You'll have to wait for the first summer and grow sunflowers, as she loves those), But I did find her dialogue to be the reason why I keep trying to convert Soggy Newspaper into cloth the moment I get to access their Sewing Machine, so I can change up my style to something that looked more fitting XD But after a while, I noticed the cracks in her facade, and eventually I got to see a more lovable lady underneath her "Mean Girl" Exterior. I've currently got her up to 8. hearts and I'm. Contemplating on when I should give her a Bouquet to finally land her... :3

The fact that all the times I have asked a Stardew character to date me I have first charged in, gave them a gift, made them wait a weird amount of time while squealing at the heart number, than give her a bouquet. Imagine if someone did that to you, what would you say.
