Why is the Fire Emblem series so underrated?

Because its too good. Great character development with decently complex gameplay to keep you interested but not frustrated and an awesome range of classes and weapons to choose from to customize your experience. If I had to give a real reason, probably the perma death. I know some people that get turned away from the game because they lost their favorite character and can't get them back.

I feel like with awakening and four characters in smash bros, calling it underrated doesn't fit the series any more. Also the new one that's going to come out looks amazing, so just focus on the hype!

Actually there are 5 fire emblem characters in the Super Smash Bros. series if you add them all up. Ike, Marth, Lucina, Robin, and Roy

tacohero If you enjoyed Awakening, I recommend that you look into the other games in the series (if you haven't already). Some of the stories in those games (especially Path of Radiance for Gamecube) actually put Awakening to shame. And Awakening's story was good.

Gavin McAlpine Well, there was an announcement for a Fire Emblem x Shin Megami Tensei for the Wii U, back in January 2013. But there haven't been any other news about it since. Maybe we'll get more info at one of the coming Nintendo Directs, fingers crossed.

The Fire Emblem veterans hate on Awakening because it has humor, in depth characters, and options to make new comers more comfortable. Not only does it have loveable characters and an amazing plot line, this game saved the series. How can people hate an emotional story with great graphics, outstanding 3D, customization, and great gameplay?

+peeps And without the necessary changes they have placed in Awakening, the Fire Emblem series as a whole would have died. YES, Intelligent systems initially intended Awakening to be the last game in the series.

Not saying that I hate Awakening, I actually quite like it, but it does not have great gameplay when compared to the other games in the franchise. Great graphics is a bit of a stretch as well. The gameplay in Awakening is dumbed down quite it bit. The weapon triangle really doesn't matter, magic is op since no enemy in the game has good res stats, and pairing units up pretty much prevents any threat of death. The meta of the game is at minimum pairing units up and creating nearly unbreakable choke points, and at maximum is making every unit possible a sorcerer with nosferatu and armsthrift and pairing them up so they can never die. There's been plenty of better gameplay in other Fire Emblem games, both before and after Awakening's release.

Also, a lot of the accessibility changes that Awakening gets credited for actually debuted in Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem, it's just that New Mystery of the Emblem wasn't released over seas so it's not as well known to western audiences.

Cassondra Seasons they don't hate Awakening because of those things, they hate Awakening because of what it did to the fanbase and because how awful some of it's maps are. It's a great game, sure, but it's made the fanbase extremely toxic and it's not flawless. There are better Fire Emblem games out there, not to say this is a bad game at all, it's an excellent game. Awakening also didn't do better because it's more accessible, New Mystery of the Emblem did the same things and still did poorly. It did well because it was actually advertised and appealed to anime fans more than the other games did.

I've played this game for over 650+ hours already. Normal/Classic - 100+ hours (Random new saves) Hard/Classic - 50+ hours (First playthrough) Lunatic/Classic - 220+ hours (Second playthrough) Lunatic+/Classic - 300+ hours (Third and Eighth playthrough... Yes, I'm playing it again because I'm a masochist now thanks to it... Don't judge me!) That's how addicting and awesome this game is. There's so much to do. Lots of experimenting and replay value in this game that it never seems to bore me. :D

This game is truly outstanding. I've always loved playing Fire Emblem games but this one destroys them all. I've played it for countless hours and i am on my third playthrough. For those of you that do not have it yet all i say is it is worth the wait. Truly amazing.

This game is just beautiful. One of gaming's Masterpieces if you ask me. It is very rare to see a game with great plot, gameplay, music AND graphics, with huge amounts of content and replay value (even before the optional DLC). If you're even considering getting this, do it. Even if you aren't considering getting it, you really should think about it twice.

I would love to see Fire Emblem Awakening and it's past titles adapt into an Anime Movie. Not an Anime Series, but a Movie. It would be awesome... as long as they don't blend 3D Cel-Shaded Animation with 2D Digitial Animation. Again... IT WOULD BE AWESOME!

I think this game might be the best Fire Emblem title to date. Even the longtime fans of Fire Emblem can agree that this game rivals Genealogy of the Holy Wars (the game with Sigurd) and Thracia 776 (the title with Lief or whatever his name was in the English version).

This is one of the best games I have ever played. Never before have I felt the level of involvement and feeling for a game until this one. Zelda, I worship you with my heart and soul-but the storyline, gameplay, and visuals in this game are nearly up to par with anything you've done so far. Long live Fire Emblem, and here's to Fire Emblem and Zelda on the WiiU!

They both have the two things you mentioned, and they are heavy story games. In my experience, I get a Final Fantasy-like feeling and a Nintendo-like feeling at the same time when I play Awakening. That may have not made much sense, but it just felt like Final Fantasy for some reason, probably the emphasis on the characters.

Fire Emblem: Awakening is the best reviewed game of the year so far and Nintendo has made critically acclaimed games that aren't just Mario such as many of the Legend of Zelda games, the Pikmin series, and so much more. That doesn't excuse some of their duds that they make such as Steel Diver and when they made the Virtual Boy..., but they continue to make good games until this day in their internal studios and owned companies like Monolith Soft and Retro Studios.

True, I played Lunatic+ without the use of the logbook. As for the final boss, a good Marth is nice for the battle, his ability gives him +30% on skill activation.

You can download it from the e-shop. I only got a physical copy because GameStop was giving out an art book for pre-ordering so if you didn't pre-order a copy you won't be missing anything by getting the download version.

That would be the case if it was any other mode, but in Lunatic+ that doesn't apply. You are right about Vantage, but Vantage+ activates no matter what, even on if the opponent has high HP. Same goes for any skill variants with a "+". They can just activate every turn. And good luck dealing the end-game chapter, with the final boss spamming it's abilities constantly.

It is definitely worth getting, even if its a pain to find a copy. I would try non-gaming stores (such as Best Buy and Target, since you already checked the gaming stores) if you want a physical copy, or I would get the E-shop download if you still can't find it. Just be aware that the game takes up a huge amount of space on an SD card (and you will probably want some room leftover, in case you want to get other e-shop stuff or DLC for Awakening).

Chrom and Lucina... And you could make their Great Lord class changes either final smashes (Which may or may not be in the next game) Or just make Class Changes alternate skins (Or whatever those things are called)

Fire Emblem: Awakening is one of the games I have ever played. The combat is solid, and the story, even though it's kind of cliche (especially in the second act), is interesting. There's also DLC where you can get characters from previous games. In other words, GET THIS GAME NOW!!!

Not gonna argue, but I'm just gonna mention a few things. Presentation: Are you talking about the gameplay graphics or cinematic cutscenes? Story: Different from Zelda. Yes you have magic and knights, but you don't spend the game looking for a princess and there are many side stories in this game that depend on choices you make. Gameplay: Fire Emblem is a strategy game. It basically plays like chess, but with a couple extra gameplay mechanics.

Looks great! I haven't played a whole lot of Fire Emblem games, but I did play the first chapter of Radiant Dawn (I rented the game and had to turn it in before I got to pass it), but I really enjoyed it! :D I'm hoping I really enjoy this one too.

I haven't played any of the previous games before and so I can tell you that you won't be lost if you do pick it up. This has a strong plot all by itself. I'm probably missing out on character references, but it hasn't impacted my gameplay or my love for the game at all.

For me a big part of the joy I get from the story comes from the conversations between the characters and I don't think a movie would do credit to these aspects of the FE stories.

Easily one of the best games I have ever played; I have put in over 68 hours into it, still haven't beaten it yet, and will make a new file to play it again. I highly recommend it to any person who owns a 3DS

The same thing happened to me and I ran to the internet for help, and found that Best Buy is selling them at retail price :D. You obviously need to wait a couple days for it to get to you or your local best buy, but I think it's worth it especially since I don't want to buy the downloadable version.
