I remember this ad like it was yesterday. Surprised me to find out it was Australian-only when I got online and nobody else remembered it! I always found it both awesome and a bit chilling as a kid. I'd love to know more about how this ad was made, considering this is some very early 3d animation for when it was aired! Wonder which company made it? The voices used for those characters are really awesome. The very Aussie voice for the Duck Hunt dog is just hilariously fitting, too, considering the amount of swearing he caused a whole generation.

As someone who saw this as a kid, it WAS scary but it also felt like a genuine challenge being directed at us kids. "Do you think you've got what it takes?"Reminds me of the British gaming mags of the era that often absolutely ridiculed players (even little kids) for poor gaming skills, defying them to "get gud".At one point, C&VG magazine had a freaking dominatrix berating the readers for their highscores!

Come to think of it, the only NES games I've realistically beaten under normal conditions (though through different hardware) are Kirby's Adventure (via saving) and Super Mario Bros. (clean 1-1 to 8-4 in one sitting) Every other NES game I've beaten has been through cheats, glitches and save states.

The ad is from late '86. It's Australian. Funny because, Sega ended up dominating the down under market with Master System and Mega Drive not long after.

What a full circle. From being creeped out by this ad for just searching older commercials at a young age, for it to suddenly resurface in a modded rhythm game. (And an awesome mod at that) They really cannot be beaten.
