Nintendo are doing everything in their power to stop the distribution of unliscenced content. But is it enough?

Nintendo's licensing and lockout chip stuff was actually a good idea, back in 1985, when the video game industry had collapsed, and nobody bought video games after et, and the crappy shovelware which caused the 1983 crash. But it's 2022, and there is no real threat towards the video game industry.

Nintendo is going to lose. Their consoles are going to be hacked. This notion that they can make a profit from every single switch owner is going to be their demise. People are still buying PSVitas simply to jailbreak them. Playing all kinds of games on one handheld is their main concern, not burning copies and selling those copies

@Røyål Læg3nd it's not even stealing anymore if it's unavailable elsewhere for the public unless it's through person to person or... _the seven seas_ . But what's more, it's not profitting off of Nintendo or the original devs, it's like grabbing somethin' outta the trash, it's only good for the one who has/grabbed it. If Ninty offered the option for folks to rebuy all the games that aren't there anymore, this issue is (sorta) fixed as there's a means to obtain them. But not only do Ninty only re-sells and/or port some games and not all, but they also either make 'em a one time only sale or they sell them at launch day prize. And I for one can tell you, none of the last gen games I want to replay is available for purchase from Ninty.
@anounymosgamer2 жыл бұрын
@Røyål Læg3nd you're talking technical and/or using lawyer talk. My example of scrounging the trash still fits in this scenario. Or, by your and many others definition of all o' this,: if it's no longer available legally, then we aren't allowed to take it even if it's technically available out on the _seven seas_ . To that I say, poppy cock. Because I'm not using the "characters theme" for my own benefit (remaking and/or reselling roms), unless that benefit is "allowing myself to replay these gem of a game", which again, does not come out as profiting off of anyone even Ninty, which isn't morally wrong. Also, what you said would have merits if people are making money off of the roms, but many do not.
@Brain_pocketer2 жыл бұрын
US government already agreed with piracy of old Nintendo games that are no longer being distributed. What they said was that, as long as Nintendo doesn't let people access them in any way, they can't sue people for pirating/distributing, which is the reason why Nintendo is beginning to rush Nintendo Online.

How governments define piracy when it comes to digital computer files is simply wrong. Sharing an infinitely copiable computer file with someone isn't stealing, it's sharing. In fact, companies selling you the ability to access a computer file that they can infinitely copy for free is much closer to stealing, from you. Unfortunately, we now live in a world where large corporations exploiting consumers has become completely normalized and nobody questions these things anymore.

If they we're positive their new up to date games was greater than their old school classical games this wouldn't be half as the issue it is now. I understand illegally downloading the newer games but the older games? The older games is only a problem because of their hunger for more money. This is why no matter what they do they'll never be able to stop us. The community made them who they are. From the community of Devs to the community of buyers. If you own Nintendo,you own a name. Just like the developers worked for Nintendo,Nintendo has worked for us. We're going to keep doing it ;)

I haven’t searched the internet to see if you have done this but can you show us( me mainly 😅) how to download PC games. Something such as Albion Online. Mainly I ask this is because they are expanding to consoles but I feel like they are going to take a very long time. It has been about a year since they stated clearly they would expand to consoles. But their mobile release isn’t the best and mobile is what I’m limited to playing it on. With switch I might be able to play it much better. Plus Albion Online added controller compatibility. So it won’t be impossible with hot keying the controller if that would be a issue.

I'm actually with Nintendo on the licensing front. Licensing a game is the main way console makers actually make money on console gaming, so circumventing that is an issue. Also, when you open up the floodgates to ANYONE you get a lot of low effort/inappropriate/scam/games ripping off other games trash flooding the market of the console. Deluges of porn and extremely violent games (ESRP wasn't a thing in the NES days) deters parents from getting the console for their kids too. Plus Atari acquired the knowledge to circumvent Nintendo's anti-piracy in an EXTREMELY unethical way. I don't agree with Nintendo refusing to re-release games though.

I don't believe jailbreaking a system should be illegal and neither should piracy of non current gen games, on the first you OWN the system and should have the right to modify it how you see fit and in any way you wish without restriction so long as it doesn't affect others or others' experiences and on the second how ELSE would one play say Dynasty Warriors: Gundam or Gundam Crossfire for instance without a working PS3? I believe that piracy, in the gaming industry at least, is a large part of the preservation of past and exclusive content that would otherwise be lost to time if not for such actions.

I'm hugely in favour of open platforms like the pc for gaming. Anyone can release any games they want. But if closed platforms like Nintendo consoles allow them to make legendary masterpieces like breath of the wild and mario odessey then I would say there is enough room in the gaming space for both these models and gamers are better off for both of them existing side by side.

Being a game design student, we learn history of games, to understand where it starts. They do have big issues with copyright because they were sued A LOT! Like their first big lawsuit was due to them creating Donky Kong. With Atari I think it's justifiable. When they became popular, everyone was after their property, so they grew super cautious of people going after their IP. I don't think they should be going after creators that boost their sales. Because of their history they aren't a great company. It also doesn't help that they started at selling cards and getting involved in gambling.

It’s called a contract! Atari couldn’t get around the contract so they stepped outside the box. Yup… they should of lost. They cheated. The 10NES was Nintendos IP. Nintendo has always had a very aggressive stance against others profiting from there content. Okay with fire…. Your gonna get burned. Not saying don’t do it… just saying don’t get pissed if you get caught. It’s like speeding on the highway.
