In the South here, this year and last year we’ve gotten really low temps, in the single digits and teens. What ends up happening is that old gaskets warp permanently when they’re old and get this cold. Every time we have a cold wave cars start dumping oil from old crusty gaskets and we wake up to pools of oil. Last year this happened to the valve cover gasket and I used your video to fix it. This year the oil cooler gasket warped in the cold. Used your video again to fix it up. I really appreciate you taking the time for such an old car like this Altima. It’s helped me save thousands of dollars. This fix was a lot more difficult than I expected, you make it look so easy! Took me hours and hours, it’s so hard getting the hoses off.

Hey I just wanted to thank you for all the videos you’ve posted on the Altima. I’ve saved my elderly dad a lot of money just learning how to wrench on it myself from watching your videos. And I appreciate how you always put torque specs and all the issues you run into. It helps me be more prepared! I just wanted to write about how grateful I am for people like you. I’m about to attempt this after doing the valve cover from your video. We have an oil leak that I’m not sure where it’s coming from. 1 question, were the hoses easy to pull out? I had so much trouble with the power steering hoses and the PCV valve hose (that broke). Just curious whether or not I should prepare with an extra hose or anything?

Regarding blowing out bolt holes with air to remove oil/coolant, you mentioned it could crack block if not....could you give some insight as to why?
@TrickShiftGarage
@TrickShiftGarage Жыл бұрын
What basically happens is any oil or fluid trapped inside will have no where to escape once the bolt is tightened down, if there's enough pressure, the "easier" route for the fluid to go is to push against the block causing a crack for the fluid to escape. An aluminum engine block will give out before a steel bolt does. Hope this helps give some insight. Thanks for watching Adrian!👍

Can this issue cause oil to leak so bad that literally all the oil leaks out during normal operation in a matter of a day or 2
@TrickShiftGarage
@TrickShiftGarage Жыл бұрын
Hi Arthur, it's possible but highly unlikely. The O-ring inside the oil cooler is what the cause is. It degrades over time and stops sealing the two halves of the oil cooler. The only way I can see losing all the oil in a couple of days is if it cracked open and had oil gushing out. Hope this video helps. Thanks for watching! 🙂

Does the cooler ever warp? Meaning a gasket is only temporary - because it can't seal nicely?
@TrickShiftGarage
@TrickShiftGarage Жыл бұрын
I haven't heard of this particular oil cooler warping but it's certainly possible if it gets hot enough. Usually the gasket or O-ring just breaks down, then it begins leaking because it's not sealing anymore. Thanks for watching! 👍

Hi Oli, it was definitely a pain to take those hoses off! What I found to be helpful was to unbolt the oil cooler first, then lower it down so you can see the coolant hoses better. Just make sure to label the hoses so you don't get them mixed up. Thanks for watching 👍

The bad o ring , can it make white smoke come out the tail pipes?
@TrickShiftGarage
@TrickShiftGarage 4 ай бұрын
No, white smoke in the exhaust usually means coolant is getting into the combustion chambers and burning off, causing the white color. Could possibly be a bad head gasket. I'd take it to a shop and have them look it over to make sure first. Thanks for watching! 👍
