Like the idea of driving an Electric Vehicle but are still concerned about the range and lack of charging infrastructure? Or maybe installing a wall box is out of the question because you live in an apartment?
One car that might be an ideal solution for such folks is the Nissan Note e-Power. It has a 1.2-litre engine that runs on petrol, however, it's there purely as a generator to charge the batteries that drive the electric motor.

Perfect solution 👏 if only manufacturers made cars like this that can offer you decent electric range + combustion = this combination is unmatched by electric or ICE.Keep up with good work 🍻

I think the battery would be too small for that. I do not know however, what the range is for just the electric range. My guess would be around 50 km.

Hey, can you switch it so you ONLY use the battery to drive around instead of fueling up? Like is there button for battery only mode?

You can. There is EV mode button. When u press it will drive on electric. But only last for awhile due to the small motor capacity, before the engine starts up again to charge the electric

Only things Nissan dropped the ball on was the location of the battery cooling fan(maintenance wise) , and the fact that there's no cooling fan filter behind the vent like the Toyotas after 2017

@@kayaanyadunath9863 No, it's a hybrid. Even PHEVs are considered hybrids, and they are much closer in practice to a full electric than this.

@@ashton9699 this one the energy go to the battery and then the wheels. For hybrid it's both energy from fuel and battery at the same time that go to the wheels. Got it?

@@kayaanyadunath9863 Doesn't change the fact that a Chevrolet Volt, that applies the same principle once the battery is depleted, is still considered a hybrid. PHEV = plugin HYBRID electric vehicle.

So basiscally the 3 cyl. engine/generator is used like BMWs former REX in the i3?
@ignitiontv1893
@ignitiontv1893 2 жыл бұрын
Yup, although in the Note it isn't just a range *extender*, more like a range *provider*... Without the generator, the Note would be essentially unusable.

Yes and no. It's not Soley from battery. The Actkinson engine can and does place electrons directly to and from the inverter bypassing the battery altogether. Nissan have not been totally up front about this. Either way its still a good solution. I get between 18 and 30 kms per liter. It drops heaps when driven on highway ie more than 80kph. Still i love my black arrow note.

I'm confused. So a gas engine powers a generator, that sends a charge to the electric motor, which in turn drives the wheels.
@ignitiontv1893
@ignitiontv1893 2 жыл бұрын
Correct! The concept behind it is that the engine can then run at its most efficient speed, thus giving better fuel economy

@ashton9699 2 жыл бұрын
@@Sevan59 No, that's what a PHEV is for. This simply works like a normal hybrid, but you get the instant and linear torque of a full EV, rather than an annoying (e)CVT with a droning engine when accelerating like a normal hybrid.

this is the most stupid solution so far, have almost everything a petrol car has but also carry the weight of all the electric stuff and you cant even plug it in, you have to use fuel, just make the engine move the wheels@@Sevan59 IF..... it had an electric only range of like 60-80 miles, like the levc van then you could at least use it as an electric car .... with no range anxiety.... this is just a complicated petrol car

Another draw back is you have to change the transmission oil regularly. It tends to sludge very fast. A typical car transmission oil change is every 40000kms or less however the nissan note you have to change the oil every 20000kms or once every year and hopefully you can minimize the sludge build up in the transmission. Could you reach out to the nissan manufacturer and ask them why does that happen and how to prevent it? Also the placement of the hybrid battery will collect dust, to top it off it has NO filter. Why? Why would the engineers put the hybrid battery their ???. Under the seat.. and the fan. Very poor engineering. They can't be so foolish. I think it's because they want the car owners to spend money for replacement so NISSAN parts department can profit.

@RonaiHenrik
@RonaiHenrik 2 жыл бұрын
not quite, no. Similar though. As far as I know the Volt's ICE also assists the electric motor sometimes. With Nissan's e-power drivetrain this would never happen as the ICE is only there to charge the battery. I guess this is all due to reach the best efficiency possible, which (as far as I know) they did manage to achieve with 50% efficiency.
