This is a 2018 Nissan Note e-POWER but it's not available for sale in Malaysia (yet?). This is Edaran Tan Chong Motor's exploratory model for a feasibility study of the e-POWER hybrid powertrain in Malaysia.
e-POWER is a series hybrid system that is exclusively driven by an electric motor while a 1.2L 3-cylinder petrol engine serves as a generator for the 1.5-kWh battery pack that juices the electric motor. A similar set up to the upcoming Perodua Ativa Hybrid.
Let's be real, mass adoption of full-electric vehicles (EV) will not happen anytime soon. But the push for lower emissions needs to happen NOW.
Which is why hybrids are the next best solution. An accessible and sustainable solution in cutting down fuel consumption, emissions and of course your fuel bill in the long run. Watch on to find out what Adrian thinks of this Nissan Note e-POWER.

I drive a hybrid and I agree that it is a great way to significantly reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. However, your last statement is arguably incorrect as long as hybrid still use petrol sucked out from deep underground mines, it is not a sustainable technology. It is just a good transition technology that gives us more time to allow the world to eventually transition to full sustainable energy sources.

Agreed, if you have renewable energy coming out of your power socket at home (or nuclear power plant etc). Otherwise you're substituting coal for gasoline, which is the case here in Australia :(

I personally own an epower Note (E13 new gen) here in Singapore and driven it for 9K km now. My long term FC since day one is at 20.8km/l and certainly at least for my model, an average of 30+ long term is hard to achieve. On routes that are low speed (30-80kph) with a couple of traffic lights, and if you made an effort, 26-30km/l is possible with AC on. My best ever was 33km/l , excluding short journeys which is not an accurate measurement (less than 10Km excluded). This car excels at lower speeds in terms of FC, the slower you go the better. 100kph constant cruise with no drafting gives you around 18-20km/l, I suspect at higher speeds an efficient petrol engine will be more efficient. In terms of FC, epower is not the ultimate. I think Toyota prius and hybrids such as CHR can be better, and Honda's eHEV Jazz as well since they employ ICE for higher speeds which is simply more efficient. Of course Epower is efficient but its key benefit is not ultimate efficiency but the drive feel of an electric motor. Because it uses a more powerful electric motor than a Prius/Vezel since its the sole propulsion, it wafts like an electric car. The ICE engine also kicks in very gently and as long as you do not punch the throttle, you will not know if its on or off. It doesn't sneeze in an agricultural way like a lower end Toyota hybrid like the Sienta, or even the Vezel Hybrid, hence the drive feel is remarkably refine and effortless. In the E13 epower Jazz, 0-100 is 8.3s GPS verified (using Draggy) and while doing that, flooring whenever you can in the city, you can still achieve very easily 17km/l. The thing with these hybrids, you dont need to baby the throttle... you drive hard u get 17-19, u drive gently , you get 21-22. Traffic jam sometimes gives u better FC... since speed drops. If however I'm doing 130-150kph on NSHW day in day out, this could be less efficient than a normal 1.2T ICE car. This car loves the city, it love traffic jams, it loves to idle silently with AC on while waiting for your wife(yes can idle 20mins without engine on with AC on). Long story short, the Note Epower is a 8s warm hatch with 280nm that will do 18-20km/l no matter how hard you drive it. It also glides like a far more expensive car and doesn't have that irritating hybrid start that u always hear when a lower end Toyota hybrid (Sienta/Yaris Cross) has when you accelerates. I hope you will find this useful !

Thanks for the insighful comment. I was just wondering if you've recorded the FC on long routes e.g. 4 hour drive at 120-140 KPH?

Because you driving the car in s mode (which is sport mode) or normal mode, which uses more fuel, these numbers are achieve in eco mode, This guy explanation is incorrect, as there is no e-pedal mode, e-pedal operates in both sport and eco modes only. Even read some of these comments below, will confirm it can do it, some people believe S mode is smart mode, but it is not, it SPORT mode. In sport mode the car engine is on more often as it keep the battery tap up, so it can keep up your spirited driving, which result in using more gas which you are experiencing. In normal mode there is balance between battery and engine, but the engine is not on only if necessary, which uses bit less than sport mode. You claim that the car glides, the e-power only glides in normal mode, which is not the most efficient mode. In eco mode the car keep the engine off as much as possible, by regen as much as possible, by it regen it uses less fuel as it recharging the battery by your deceleration, the more the battery tap up by deceleration, the less the engine comes on, that why they can get 2.8L/km, because the engine is not been use often. E-power efficiency depends heavily on your drive mode. Hope that explain how the e-power works. What people are not aware you can still drive spirited in eco mode. If you driving in eco and still get those low figure than , your car need to be check out.

@@hzburki I do not think he understand the car fully, Owning the car and understand the operation of the car are two different things, owning the car does not mean you understand what the powertrain is doing under each drive mode, Nissan e-power achieve high efficiency only in eco mode. The car only glides in normal mode, as he state the car glides, that means he drives the car in normal mode, hence explain his 20 km/l. If you look in the video the guy is driving in eco mode (which the video guy call e-pedal mode), that why he get 35 km/l
@cb5110
@cb5110 2 жыл бұрын
Simple explanation, what ever you choose will result in poor or better MPG S mode (sport mode) the engine is on very often to keep up power and keep battery tap up, also it regen to help keep battery tap up. Not so good MPG Normal mode there is a balance between battery and engine use. The car does very light regen and glide in this mode only. Average MPG ECO mode the programing try it best to keep the car moving with battery power as much as possible, and regen every chance it gets, with e-pedal driving, result less use of engine. High MPG.

@@hzburki Hi Hasseb, unfortunately I am not able to sustain such high speeds as this exceeds our speed limits. At a constant 100kph, the car would likely be doing 18-20km/l , regardless of the mode of driving. It is only at lower city speeds where your FC becomes better. Perhaps at 140kph, I would not be surprise if the FC will drop to 14-15 km/l due to the increased drag. But as CB stated, he is the expert, not me, so take this with a pinch of salt.

Now imagine an e-power car with diesel engine instead of petrol, the fuel efficiency should be thru the roof considering the torque of a diesel engine beats the pants out of the torque of a similar size petrol engine, more like an experiment for sheets and giggles cos diesel engines are going to be banned in the near future for non-commercial purpose.
