This is a Motormouth couple car comparison of the Nissan Rogue and Mazda CX-5 compact crossover vehicles. The Nissan Rogue also has a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine matched with a CVT, it has 181 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque. FWD and AWD options are available. The Mazda CX-5 has a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine with a 6-speed automatic transmission, 187 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque. There is also a turbocharged 2.5L 4-cycliner engine with 227 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque on regular fuel. If you use premium fuel, you will boost your power to 250 horsepower & 320 lb-ft of torque.The Nissan Rogue has a more distinctive design than the outgoing model with a floating roof design and a V-motion grille. One nice feature the Rogue offers is extra wide rear doors to make it easier to get car seats in and out. The Rogue comes standard with LED headlights and taillights, heated outside mirrors, a temporary spare tire and 17 inch wheels. 18” and 19” wheels are available on the top two trims. A panoramic sunroof is standard on the middle trim and a motion activated liftgate on the top trim. The Mazda CX-5 has a sporty exterior design with clean lines that will look good for years down the road. It comes standard with LED headlights, a spare tire and 17” wheels; 19” wheels are available. Standard features on the two top trims, include a power operated moonroof, power liftgate, LED rear combination lights, LED fog lights and power folding exterior door mirrors.The Rogue has a beautiful interior, the fit and finish on the top trim we tested with leather appointed seats, a 12.3” digital dashboard and a 9” touchscreen really elevates this Rogue to the next level. The Platinum trim also comes with wireless Apple Carplay and wired Android Auto, a head up display, a wireless charger, driver seat memory, a power passenger seat, heated rear seats and a 10-speaker Bose sound system. The best value trim goes to the SV trim, it comes with an 8” touchscreen heated front cloth seats, a heated leather wrapped steering wheel, a panoramic sunroof and a power driver’s seat. There is a premium package for $2,200 CAD you can add to this trim to get the power lift-gate, leatherette seats and heated rear seats.The CX-5 comes standard with a 10.25” full colour display, Apple Carplay and Android Auto, cloth seats, heated front seats, 6-way manual driver’s seat and key-less entry. The best value trim goes to the GS trim, that’s where you’ll find leatherette trimmed upholstery, a power driver’s seat, a leather wrapped heated steering wheel and a power liftgate. You can add the comfort package to this trim to get the sunroof for $1,500 CAD. In the US, both the sunroof and power lifttgate are standard on the Carbon Edition trim or you can add the Touring package for $1,445 USD to get the sunroof. Absolutely love my 2021 Rogue SL. Had a 2008 SL, 2013 SV, 2015 SL and a 2018 Platinum (yes I have enjoyed Rogues that much) and they don’t even compare to my new one. So much better driving and much quieter at all speeds. The driving dynamics are vastly improved. The interior is such an improvement and feels like it should be in a much more expensive vehicle. I traded my 2020 Santa Fe in for my new one and have no regrets. After living with the Hyundai and dealing with its clunky automatic transmission, I am happy to go back to a Rogue with a CVT. I have owned multiple vehicles over the years and many have been Nissans with CVT’s. I have had NO issues with any of the CVT’s. Keep the fluid changed and treat them well and they do fine. Yes, the first generation CVT’s from JATCO had some issues but not all CVT’s from them are bad. They are much improved. If you are in the market for compact CUV, do not buy until you test drive the Rogue. You’ll be impressed. As for the comparison…. If you want the back road canyon carver, Mazda is your vehicle. No one does it better than them. I’ve owned many. They look great too. One the other hand, if you want space, cargo room and overall comfort with a much easier to use infotainment system , and a much better price , go with the Rogue.

You own all of them. But what are the mileage on them to prove anything. It seems you own them as their test driver/users. This comment don't help people looking to buy and keep them instead of trading them in every 3-5 years.

CX-5 remains the best compact 5-seating compact SUV money can buy. But Nissan has done a refreshing job on updating all of their products. For driving enthusiasts, CX-5 is a no brainer. Those who are seeking for lots of standard features and interior space would be perfect for Rogue's packaging.

CX5 still drives like an SUV and has rather rough suspension over uneven pavement. Seats are very firm and infotainment poor without touch screen. My gf and I were completely unimpressed with 30 min test drive.

Not really much of a comparison in my mind. While both have a 2.5NA, the CVT in the Rogue is already a hard no. The CX5 has nicer styling and much better driving dynamics. Also, the available turbo in the Mazda is great. About the only reasons to get the Rogue are the larger cargo area, or the cheap lease with bad credit. The reasons to go with the Mazda are everything else including reliability.
@James-il3tq

Rogue has better infotainment and digital gauge cluster. CX5 lack of touch screen is a disappointment along with firm seats and suspension (unpleasant over potholes and uneven pavement). Exterior looks are subjective. Personally I like Rogues new exterior looks compared to very feminine CX5 exterior. CX5 transmission should hold up better but turbo unlikely to last as long as Rogues naturally aspirated engine.
@digitaldoc100
@digitaldoc100 2 жыл бұрын
@@James-il3tq The CX5 has a sculpted exterior that nobody describes as feminine, and all of the fellow CX5 owners I know happen to be male. The seats are on the firm side, and the suspension is sporty, but maybe not everyone wants a driver's car. The infotainment with the control knob has a learning curve of a few weeks, but then most folks can use it with ease. The CX5 reliability is superior to the Rogue if you look objectively at CR.
@dx2y
@dx2y 2 жыл бұрын
@@James-il3tq wait what? I test drove both and nissan's infotainment system is not better. Yes it is touch screen but I found using the knob to be very useful while driving. The video quality is also better on cx-5's system. No it does not look feminine. Almost everyone who gets this car is a male. You do have a valid point when it comes to seats. Mazda have to work on that. Nissan also has better lane assist technology in my opinion. But the interior quality and driving feel on mazda comply blows away the nissan.

2021 Rogue Platinum trim is tops and classy for this segment. The CVT has been upgraded. Look at all of the Nissans with this CVT. Not too many issues with the volumes that they sell and they have improved them over the years. The Rogue is a top seller, plain and simple…..I did drive the CX5. It is a nice drive but it is small, no back seat room, and a gas guzzler. I can’t phathom giving up the luxury, room, cargo space, and tech just to have a slightly better driving experience????????? I bought a new 2021 Mazda CX-5 … This car has everything in spades. The new Rogue looks good but it’s reliability is an unknown factor Whereas the Mazda is already proven. The CVT on the Nissan may be good now but let’s see what it’s like in 3 year’s time. The Mazda has the best auto in the business. The road holding on the Mazda and sportiness feel is a no brainer compared to the Rogue and I dispute the findings on the Mazda’s reliability score . The New Mazda might be around the corner but such a perfect car doesn’t need much change and as for the infotainment system I’ll stick with the tech that it has .. too many things go go wrong with new tech on a new concept in the Rogue.

CX5 suspension is so firm. While the 2021 Rogue also gets firmer suspension vs the older design, it still has that Nissan comfort that to me is the best in the segment. @@claydoscope Yes sure. Very shortly after buying it, he kept hearing a strange sound almost every time he drove - he described it like the sound of a rock hitting the windshield but there was never any sign of a crack anywhere - and the sound happened over and over. He brought it to the dealership who kept it overnight, but they said they were unable to replicate the sound so they couldn’t give him an answer. Shortly thereafter, he was driving home one day and all of a sudden a blaring alarm went off inside the car without any warning whatsoever. He had to pull off the road and called the dealership so that they could hear the alarm blaring. Had he been a less experienced driver, he said he well could have gotten into a car accident because the alarm was so sudden, so unexpected, and so piercing. As with the other sound he had been complaining about, the dealership was unable to figure out what had caused the alarm. That was the final straw for him and he traded it in because he was afraid to drive it. Throughout this time, there were several instances of warning lights coming on the dashboard - which ones in particular I don’t know - but it was really the recurring sound plus the alarm that made him lose confidence in the car.

When Consumer Reports rates the quality of cars, it surveys its own subscribers. So it’s really capturing the opinions of a universe of its own subscribers who fill out surveys. JD Power captures a wider audience, but it’s also capturing the opinions of car owners who fill out surveys. I’m not convinced those are statistically valid methods. And that’s why I like the IHS Markit loyalty awards. Every year IHS Markit analyzes over 12 million new vehicle registrations to see what kind of car people had, and what kind of new car they went out and bought or leased. That allows Markit to measure which companies, brands and models have the highest loyalty. 12 million is a lot, and there are no surveys to fill out, so I like that methodology. Guess which car companies have the highest loyalty? GM and Ford. They usually don’t do that well when CR or JD Power rate them. But having the highest loyalty speaks loud and clear about their quality. JD Power and Consumer Reports also rate Land Rover and Alfa Romeo at the bottom. But IHS Markit shows Land Rover has the highest loyalty with full size luxury SUV owners. And Alfa Romeo is the most improved.... Years ago the Packard Motor Company’s advertising slogan was “Ask The Man Who Owns One.” That’s kind of sexist way to state it today, but it’s also considered one of the most effective taglines in the history of automotive advertising. Actually, it's crossovers that we're calling SUVs. The old-style large "SUVs," real sports utility vehicles with an emphasis on "utility," aren't really selling that much. But I agree, I'm tired and bored with the crossovers, CUVs, smaller SUVs, whatever you want to call them. Let's get some wagons on the road. I saw a beautiful Volvo wagon the other day and it really made me wonder how this tall blobs are considered "cooler" than a sleek looking wagon. I'm not saying crossovers are all bad but their ubiquity and people buying them almost as "defaults" and not seeing that they're oversized for most of them, I find that to be kind of depressing. There are still some sedans selling but not nearly enough IMO. I'm also not going the way of the crossover. Sedans or wagons for me and I don't care one bit about higher driving position. In fact, I find that to me a negative. The Mazda 6 is a wonderful car and I hope to see it constantly updated.

Ill leave you with that visual :) On gas, I was quite surprised at the difference going from regular to 91 premium made in the power band (in my Bronco Sport Badlands).
