So I gotta spread the love. These engines were also put into old maximas until 89-94 I beileve. They sound awesome and are pretty much bullet proof. Super cheap awesome engine capable for 700+ on stock internals. Iron block aluminum head. You can get these things cheap cheap cheap.

Where need one got 90 model max ! Mine has a issue starts runs great until it gets too operating temp ! Then starts idling rough and revs really slow and back fires a little ! This didn't start until the set screw backed off the rotor button inside the distributor ? Running about 75mph on the interstate !

Yup the sohc was rated at like 160 hp but I have one and idk about that maybe like 190

Pause at :25 you can see at just 4000 RPM its putting out 352 ft/lb of torque (I'm guessing its ft/lb) and 273 hp.

Really cool to see the original Electramotive ECU on the bench controlling it. Wonder how it would hold up against modern engine management?

not well. If he switched to a motec or similar he'd be able to better control injection and timing but small functions like spark dwell time etc to a much finer degree. Also the response to lamda and egt etc... everything intergrated and controlled by a modern processor. He's leaving a lot of reliable HP on the table. HOWEVER...it's not about that. It's a vintage car....and a cool one.

Wtf!!! Why did the headers turn purple? Was that just the glowing red shining through the black?

The camera converts the infrared light that your eyes can't see, into a deep violet. That, mixed with the visible red glow of the headers makes it look that way.

Have a vg in my 90 maxima daily drive great little engine ! About 170 hp ! Hate to think the money spent for a little over hundred hp ! But did gain double the torque ! So might b wroth it ?

push rod / ohc eather way marcelo b is right its an old lump of engine, and is also right to commend adam for keeping this classic traditional. and on not sticking a gay as fuck pushrod LS crap heap in it like most american pan heads seam to do so often to so many otherwise cool cars

thats usually a matter of money, a temperamental high strung expensive to repair engine is fun right up to the explosion from too much boost and abuse, most people american or otherwise might want something more reliable and easier to fix but with the same power as an engine like that, hence a cheap as chips and common as fuck LS or LT or even a ford lump. It may not be perfect but its better than having a sweet car just sit in your drive waiting for an expensive repair that is probably never going to happen.

Don't kid yourself that engine was outdated in 1989 by its successor. The Vg30ET is an old lump, but it's a stout old lump

+Some Body VG30i, E, ET were succeeded by the VG30DE (TT). The 84 Z had a available VG30ET.

This engine has been proven to do at least 600+hp on a stock bottom end in the Nissan 300zx z31 platform. It's not a V8, but it's a tough SOB.

I've found out a few things about this engine, apparently its way tougher than the 300ZX 3.0TT even tho its the same size and engine code but single turbo, the bottom end is way stronger, it also came in the cedric I belive its called and another 4 door JDM nissan called the gloria lol, funny names.
