Lake Mountain is one of Australia’s most-celebrated roads, and a favourite for performance-car testing, owing both to the number and variety of corners along its 20km length.
Climbing from Marysville in Victoria to the top of the Cathedral Range State Park, it’s also a road that could have been tailor-made for the Nissan Z NISMO, with demanding tarmac, challenging corners and plenty of surfaces for the rich exhaust note - enhanced by the NISMO-tuned Active Sound Control - and the roar of the 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged petrol V6 to bounce off. The NISMO is the most powerful model in the Z range, increasing its already generous outputs by 11kW and 45Nm - now 309kW and 520Nm.

I’m not sure I like the front plate placement but certainly better than regular Z!

I love Z's, had a 75' 280z back in the late 80's, wound up with headers and straight piped, now that thing moved mountains, this one I'm sorry to say IT'S JUST DRIVING ON THE MOUNTAIN. I now have a 3" straight piped big turbo Cobalt SS pushing around 380 HP and well, there's just no comparison, it doesn't just move mountains it sets them on fire. Infact my Cobalt reminds me so much of my old 280z but SO MUCH FASTER, explosive coming out of the corners, so much so on a canyon road you're on the brakes more than the gas. The 280z you could drive balls to the walls but my Cobalt is just too fast for that on canyon roads, or should I say the lake roads where I grew up and still drive now and again, they're a cross between the Nurberg Ring and Laguna Seca for about four miles, dead ends and the back again, a Cork screw climb and turn almost mirroring Laguna Seca, the quick uphill down hill left right left except it has another right then super tight right at the bottom of the hill. Multiple elevation changes like the Nurberg Ring. That's just the super tight with a few sweepers and couple straights but if you wanted it can be extended to about fifteen miles with longer straights and faster sweepers. In the Cobalt I can burn nearly half a tank of 93 in those fifteen miles if I was to run it hard. But the four miles with as tight as it is could be possibly compared to THE TAIL OF THE DRAGON, it's that tight. Getting on the the throttle and letting that turbo spool up the Cobalt will shake the leaves from the trees and the rocks from the ground. Nissan needs to up the anty far as the exhaust note goes, come on Nissan FEED THE NEED. Give us SOMETHING, it's doesn't have to be EARTH SHAKING but give us some BARK at least, at least an exhaust with a valve so we can choose. It doesn't have to be extreme just known. Thanks for all the amazing years of the Z car.
