NJPW Dominion 2024 Review: BOSJ Finals, HUGE G1 Climax News
#njpw #njdominion #prowrestling
One of the bigger events during the year for New Japan Pro-Wrestling, Dominion 2024 from Osaka Jo Hall was highlighted for the first time by the finals of the Best of the Super Juniors Finals as Taiji Ishimori and El Desperado main event the show.
In other action, Jon Moxley defended the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship against EVIL with the House of Torture, Shota Umino, and the 3rd Generation superstars as lumberjacks in a wild title match that had a surprise at the end. Henare and Shingo Takagi revitalize the strong style spirit of the NEVER Openweight Championship while Jeff Cobb continues to reign as NJPWWorld TV Champion in a banger against Tomohiro Ishii.
We also got major news about the next challenger for the IWGP Championship coming up at Forbidden Door and the format for this year's G1 Climax 34.
This is my review of NJPW Dominion 2024.

Yes, I even searched for "NJPW Dominion Review" and there's only two videos I found, including this one, so be sure to spread the word to other New Japan fans, East or West. Thank you!

Alright!! First, thank you for covering NJPW. I do appreciate it. I am soooooo pumped for the G1, as per usual, and this new wrinkle is cool! I haven't seen Dominion yet. I will check it out and see some of the highlighted matches. I love pro wrestling 🎉🎉🎉

It's going to be interesting to see who is left off of the G1 list. Going over the heavyweight roster there are about 25-28 guys who could be there

I love the format of the G1 this year. It's giving me NFL Playoffs, Champions League vibes and effectively, it's like a second New Japan Cup. You gotta EARN your spot in the G1

I'm excited for the G1 this year. I've always kept an eye on NJPW, but this year I've been trying to stay consistent with watching. Glad the format went back to 2 blocks.

I thought Dominion was solid, not amazing, but it set up the rest of 2024 really well for New Japan. Super excited for the G1, I honestly think this format is perfect in going back to 20 while still letting them build a couple playoff shows which they seem to really like based on recent tournaments.

It will be interesting if they do as Kiyomiya also has the Oiwa story going on and Oiwa already said he wants to be in the N-1 this year and win it then take the GHC title.

Happy to see the 2 block G1 return and them keeping the playoffs. While I like the idea of a 4 block G1, I understand that it wasn’t practical given structure of schedule and lost of top guys. Gonna need Takeshita in the G1.

@TheFlamingShark
@TheFlamingShark 2 ай бұрын
@@madddoggnogood1491 No way they put four AEW guys in there, it'll be 1-2 AEW guys in all likelihood. I don't see Joe doing it at this stage in his career. Takeshita and Claudio is probably the most realistic best case scenario unless Mox is actually going to be in it and they swerve us at Forbidden Door.

@TheFlamingShark
@TheFlamingShark 2 ай бұрын
@@madddoggnogood1491 Takeshita would be great, but I actually see Claudio as one of the more likely options to be honest. Moxley was really only mentioned because he's the champion, and while I do assume Naito gets it back at Forbidden Door, given he's already got the belt, I can't rule out him keeping it entirely, and there's no New Japan doesn't have the G1 without the IWGP Champion, so there's a world where this was all part of the agreement they worked out for him to win the title. I assume he's dropping it to Naito and will next be involved with NJPW in the build to Wrestle Kingdom or some US stuff. Regardless, with the 20 man field, I'm expecting one AEW, one NOAH, and maybe a TNA guy or another Japanese wild card like a Nakajima or a Takeshita, who kind of is DDT and AEW really.

What was the point of taking the belt off Naito? He's literally your only star. Just keep the belt on him and have the young guys chase him, just run with that.

@@Lightspeeds I think they wanted to pop some interest with western fans, but I don;t think it moved the needle at all. Should've just kept the belt on Naito, give him the proper run the fans want.

@@jamesedwardclard I agree, but this is a much better effort to draw hype in the iwgp heavyweight match at Forbidden Door. Last two years, the world title match tends to be a eh whatever defense for the champ, while the challenger gets a nice rub.

I don't know if anyone has ever mentioned this but ever since I realized something, I can't unsee it. Ever since his return from excursion & joining LIJ, Yota Tsuji has this habit of using a wide, crazy smile, one that always seemed familiar... and then I realized: Yota Tsuji's wide crazy grin is the exact same kind of grin that the monstrous Titans usually have in the manga-inspired anime, ATTACK ON TITAN. Go check out some of the pictures and you'll see what I mean. Hell, if it wasn't for his LIJ teammate already using the name, I could see Tsuji being call "The Titan" Yota Tsuji.

It was a solid show, and it gives me hope that the 10 point plan may actually work and they are heading in a good direction. Still not 100% convinced but things are off to a decent start. G1 changes going back to 2 blocks is cool, I kinda which they still had like maybe 24 men instead of 20 so there would be more room for guests/outside wrestlers. But at the same time if they want to build and focus on the new guys maybe a thinner field is what they need

Agreed, tbh over the past like 10 years NJPW Tag division has been build up of mainly 1 team at the top and that's it, Gallows and Anderson, GOD and currently Bishamon. They have had other teams and I think they would have build the division around Aussie Open but they went to AEW. TMDK Shane and Mickey are great and perfect to help the division with Bishimon. They need more though and they do have a young lion tag team on excursion.

Is it just me, or does it feel like Naito winning the belt back from Moxley makes the whole run feel like a big waste of time? What was the point? Just to put there top belt on an outsider, have him beat the few big names they have and the young guys that they want to make big names, just to drop it back to Naito whos body is falling apart. I mean, if they had Shoto, Yota, Gabe, ZJS, or whoever beat him it would not only make a new main eventer and 1st time champ but they'd be seen as the guy who went and brought there title back from an AEW guy on AEWs home turf. NTM the fact that its not just any AEW guy its pretty much there top guy, the person with the most AEW world title runs, one of the most protected guys in AEW. That should be a big F'ing deal, it should make someone, and no offense to Naito but it feels wasted on him IMO.

I think they put the belt on him for 2 reasons: 1. To reward Moxley still going to Japan regularly to wrestle matched even after he was signed to aew 2. To set up a match for forbidden door.

I'd add this: 3. To get the IWGP Championship on American Television regularly It's also a marketing idea.

American fans are remedial. Especially if they only watch WWE. They aren't exposed to "complex" wrestling like G1's or the rules in a Pure match.
