I wanted to give you a massive shout out, as someone who is terrified of snakes and is big outdoor person/fisherman your channel has been tremendous for me! You have conquered my fears of the little serpents. I used to think every snake wanted to bite and that every snake near the water is venomous 😭. I’ve learned to identify so many species now in South Eastern Pennsylvania because of you! They used to be one of my least favorite critters to come across, now they are slowly gaining my admiration. Still not excited to see a water snake emerge from the depths to watch me fish but I’ve learned he’s probably just curious. 👍 Thanks @NKFherping

I've been terrified by snakes my whole life. I'm an army vet, 30 years old, and scared of snakes. I started watching your videos like 4 or 5 months ago and now I'm not scared of them. Last week I caught a green tree snake and my whole body was shaking. Can't wait to see more!

That dark rat snake reminds me of an incident in Helen, Georgia, in 2003. My wife and I were in a little shop in downtown Helen, and I heard somebody say, "That's a REAL snake!" I went outside, and there was the biggest, blackest rat snake I've ever seen in the middle of the road. And, amazingly, traffic STOPPED for it in both directions. I picked it up and moved it across the street to a park there, and let it go in a bush. But, there wasn't a single scream, nobody even suggested that the snake should be killed. Just incredible.
@Prionic77
@Prionic77 4 жыл бұрын
It's nice to see traffic actually stop and allow you to collect it rather than speeding up to kill it. I've seen drivers swerve into oncoming traffic just to kill a snake. Some folks are just a$$holes.

Most enjoyable herp vlog on the net. Great trips, great landscapes, great finds, understated delivery. So many of these things you can tell immediately the main point for the person making it is really themselves, more so than the snakes. Too many in-your-face cameos of herpers trying to be the next Steve Irwin or whomever. Yours is just the right balance. Lots of snakes and just enough of the humble natural historian himself to lend context and human interest.

Haha yep. That would be me. Snakes are rad but trespassing SUCKS and isn't cool. Always get permission or stay on public ground/roads. You'd be surprised how many land owners will grant access to herpers as long as they're leaving the wildlife and land as they found it...

I was in rural Florida once, right at the edge of someone's property, but I didn't cross the fence. Some lady came out and warned me off. It sounded like she'd had some problems with trespassers causing some kind of trouble. Can't a guy just go herping? I mean, I don't get to Florida that often, and when I do, I want to look for snakes! I really wish we had more public lands in this country. Just about everything is owned by someone... Roads, and fences, and development.

I think I saw a coachwhip escaping from me once when I was in Florida, but that was like 25 years ago, and it's possible it might have been a black racer. I've always wanted to catch a coachwhip, but I've never found one, apart from maybe that one time, and usually, like racers, they are hard to catch from what I understand.

I’m not a snake person by any means, but having moved to the southeast from the southwest and watching your videos has helped me identify snakes around my house here in Florida. I would say I was afraid of snakes in my yard, but while o don’t pick them up or anything I do like to look and try to take pictures. I have seen eastern kings, Pygmy rattlers, scarlet snakes (my favorite, and always misidentified by me before seeing some of your videos.) thanks!

Not only was the racer on the ground right in front of you, but it was cold enough that you could just pick it up with one hand. Usually when I've found a racer, I would have to drop to my knees and slap my hands on it right away, or else I would end up stalking it for up to an hour or more waiting for an opportunity to catch it in the open. That was a super lucky find!
