I just watched your first version of this modification of a few years ago and this seems to be a great design progression. I look forward to what you come up with next! Very cool idea Sir.

Very nice. Simple and effective. I really like it. I've experimented with wood pans (too hard to make and too heavy throwing off pan tension). I've switched completely over to Belisles - best body grip I've ever used. Haven't tried the Savage yet. Thanks for posting - will definitely give this a try on my mink sets.

Glad you liked it, it's worked out just the way I hopped it would. Getting the animal deeper into the trap before the trigger fires and getting the double bar catch. Should work out great on the trigger shy minks. If you use this please post a video of it in action.

NLGhostWolf I definitely will do so - and give full credit to you. I intend to try it on 330's for beaver. Seems to me that if something will work on a 110 for rats - it would work on a 330 for beaver. I think it would work great on dam crossover sets. I have been watching your squirrel videos. I have tried for some time to trap grey squirrels here without much success. With our winters here being so warm, food is always plentiful, so down south blind sets work a lot better than bait sets. Also, when using peanut butter - raccoons are a constant problem. They will climb trees and trigger small snares and traps to get at the bait. I'm still working on a reliable, effective warm weather squirrel system. Take care buddy and really enjoying your videos.

Same here, I enjoy your videos as well, and yes for the 220's and 330's. I started trapping with the leg hold traps back in the 70's and by using the pans on the body grip traps, for me it is like a kill leg hold. Don't get me wrong, for water sets on beaver, otter, mink, and muskrats the wire trigger works great, but on the cross-over sets and blind trail sets, the pan system gets the trigger shy animals. For the big blanket beavers the wire trigger might still be the way to go because they are only getting their heads in a 330. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing your videos on your pan sets. Best of luck, and hope you have a very Merry Christmas.

NSTRAPPERHUNTER glad you liked it, that's my problem I can never stop tinkering with things trying to put my own spin on them. I find the Belisle triggers a little stiff and once I leave Labrador them will be used for mink traps back on the island.

rodney newbury I think it will, I found the triggers stiff on the Belisle traps. This allows me a way of increasing sensitively of the trap and an pan for those trigger shy critters. I'm thinking I'll get more double bar catches or suitcases as some refer to it. Time will tell. I know the bigger and longer the pan the more likely they are to step on it.

I like to use wood pans . It makes the pan more natural to step on for the animal and Balsa wood is a lightweight pan that really works fantastic . Wood makes better body grip pans . metal is fine but wood takes it up not down a notch !

Hey NL, Back in the early days when Nf and Labrador Trappers Association first started some of us trappers experimented on conibear traps using metal pans the same way as yours. I updated some of the ones I was using at the time and still have a few kicking around but never found to be that much of a difference. I'm still using the wire triggers mainly that it came with as well as the metal pans. Found them good fall before snow and one problem that animals were caught back behind head, stomach area. As far as I rem you could buy those pans from trap suppliers as recent as few years ago. Think I have a Trappers assoc book up at cabin with the pan mod in it.

+hunt4fish Yes you are right about being able to buy them, however I enjoy tinkering around with them pre-season when the trapping fever hits. lol I have found greater success in catching the smaller bait thieves when using pans Vs wire triggers like the weasels and squirrels and when trapping I'd rather come out of the woods with a $7 weasel than an empty bait box. (Ha $7 weasel, not for the last couple of years hey)... But this is my reasoning behind the pans, I like them better but I fully agree with them being more maintenance in the winter, But as long as you are using over hangs to shield the trap the set still works perfectly. I use to have a lot of trapping mags from the 70's all in black and white with most of the sets shown in the mag were sketches... They were great mags, I wish I would have held on to them now... Hindsight is great, but I wish I had more foresight...

Ever try the trip lines on the triggers; I find they work really well esp on sensitive triggers..

John Kodack The idea for this pan was a no MOD to the trap unlike the first one I showed a couple of years ago. I was also thinking about putting a 90 degree bend in the pan the width of the triggers, removing the wires drilling a hole through the 90 degree tab and bolting to the portion of the trigger that clamps on to the bar.
@jesusoftheapes
@jesusoftheapes 6 жыл бұрын
Totally unnecessary the way he did it is all you need to do . Taking the time to weld a pan onto it is stupid and a waste of time .
