So I been enjoying the Tundra 600 ACE LT, breaking trails, and riding through cut-overs as such. So far I'm very pleased with how this little ski-doo handles the snow and how easily you can bank it side to side. It's the perfect machine for the person who don't want to tear up the trails going mach 1.

Yes my buddy, she crawls in places where once I needed to be heavy on the hammer. I should have gotten Karen to record where I had it today. While breaking a new trail I had to bunch through a big drift on a side hill or fall into a deep hole. It was a breeze...

My body can't handle the quick machines anymore, with 9 deteriorating vertebrae in my back I have to take it nice and slow for the most part. 850 E-tec is to much engine for me to handle now-a-days. Yes I fully agree and understand why you like the Skandic adventures where you go slow and quiet, you get to see so much more of the winter wonderland.

Thanks. Since I have your attention. How would it handle 2 riders and pulling a sled of camping gear? No plans for anything fast... just slow and easy trips just like your video.
@NLGhostWolf
@NLGhostWolf 6 жыл бұрын
The sled handles very well with two riders and you can get the 2-up seat for it if you do a lot of 2 riders riding. But it's an extra $1K there a bouts. But if 2 up is your main thing, then I would surely get it. My wife rides with me all the time, if fact she is with me more than I'm by myself but she worth let me spend the extra for the 2-up seat. However it would not be a waste of money for me if I did. The Tundra and the way it's geared makes for the perfect slow and steady riding sled. It is tippy though, I went from a 20" Bearcat to the Tundra and it took a little getting use to. However in the powder the narrow stance of the tundra gives you much greater control and when breaking trails you are able to lean into and carve into the drifts so you are left with a nice flat trail. In the spring of the year when the snow gets hard and crusty you'll find it tippy if you have to side hill at all because the snow is to hard to carve into. But I love my Tundra and as long as I'm riding and as long as they are making Tundra's I'll be riding one. It's the perfect sled for my needs and it suits me perfectly. This sled is geared low, not fast as compared to today's sleds out there but because it is geared low it has great torque and hauls with ease.

Thanks for the video review. Reminds me of the first sled I owned, a Skidoo 440 LT, about 2001 vintage. Simple, super narrow, go anywhere machine. Lousy gas mileage. I loved it and thought it was a great beginner sled, but everyone else I put on it hated it because it would tip over too easy. They just wanted to sit on their butt and not stand up or throw their weight around. Finally sold it and went to a SWT Skandic. Now ride a 600 Etec SWT Skandic but looking at either the Expedition Sport or the Tundra, both with the 600 Ace. It would be my wife's machine and my solo backcountry machine and I know my wife would struggle with the Tundra.

I just bought the 2019 version a few weeks ago. I love it. Hauls my boggan no problem, goes anywhere, sips fuel, quiet, starts in the -40’s, great low end torque and slow speed control. I’ve got mine stuck a few times, but we have crazy rocky terrain here in Yellowknife, and our snow is more like sand. That said, it still is hard to get stuck, and easy to get out, thanks to its light weight. I am coming from a Skandic 550F WT, and this Tundra LT is so much more nimble! I really had to manhandle the Skandic. I thought I would miss low gear range, but the 600 ACE works really well, even just above idle. Skidoo really got the gearing and clutching right on this machine. We run two Tundra Sport 550F’s at work, and we really do well by them. I was teaching a snowmobile course to some federal employees, and they had the brand new 600 ACE version. I bought mine the following week after going over theirs. Outstanding machine. My Skandic is now on the buy and sell. I can only imagine what my machine will be like with skins on the skis... Thanks for sharing. I subbed you, as well. Time to catch up and wait for more! Take care.
@NLGhostWolf

Oh, I've gotten mine stuck as well but it was mostly driver error. A little more throttle and I would have been fine. 100% agreed on how nimble these machines are and on how easy they are to get unstuck. Thanks for the sub, I subbed you as well. I just built a cargo box for the back of my Tundra. Only regrets were not doing it sooner. I did a video of that build. Hope you enjoy the videos. Cheers

My wife son and I built a wilderness camp with two 250 tundras finally worked them to death, I loved them. One of these days I hope to get a new tundra. At this time I am running a bearcat it’s okay but heavy and hard on gas
@NLGhostWolf
@NLGhostWolf 2 жыл бұрын
I went from the bearcat to the tundra and it was a huge difference in a lot of areas.... Bearcat is like a kid riding a bike with training wheels, tundra was like riding a bike for the first time without training wheels.... Over shifting my weight had the tundra laying on its side in deep powder many times... But once you get or balance you quickly fall in love with the tundra and how nimble it can be... When you compare gas mileage, well there's no comparing gas mileage... Loved both machines for different reasons. Come Mar/Apr months when the morning snow is crust you'll miss the bearcat. But when the snow is soft and you learn your balance you'll love the tundra... Basically there is a machine made for all the needs out there, the key is finding the one that suits your needs the most.

I just love the Newfoundland winters. So much more enjoyable then in the minus 40+ winters of the North. Don't get me wrong, I loved my time in the North but I've spent 10X more time outside this winter due to the wonderful -5 to -15 temps... I love mine, found it very tippy at first but that's what makes it so maneuverable and what I've come to love about it. But it's an adjustment coming from a big heavy wide track. I'm not afraid to get this tundra stuck at all. If it moves forward or back one inch it's not stuck. It will tap its own trail and away it goes.

While others are whizzing by out on the big trails, I have carefully avoided those crazy folks and cut my own trail taking in nature that few ever see. Don't have to hunt or haul logs to enjoy the full beauty of nature and going slowly is what it is all about. So keep the news quiet.... let the other whizz by, and keep this little bit of nature to ourselves. But it is nice to know that at least one of the makers of sleds understands this and doesn't measure sled performance by leaping thru the air and blowing down the trail... quiet is a good thing....once you get used to doing this you will find out all that you missed by roaring around on a big bore sled.

Nice video. Thanks for the ride along and music. Reminds me of where I grew up in Ontario. Been wanting to get back into sledding. Looking at something like this or Expedition. I want to do groomed trails and then also back country like this and do not want to get stuck. Was on a Yamaha and stroke like the Bearcat was terrible. How well has that LTS suspension held up in the front? How does the ride of the Tundra compare to the Bearcat?
@NLGhostWolf
@NLGhostWolf 4 жыл бұрын
LTS is doing great, my sled is a 2017 so I've got 3 years of riding it now, with absolutely no issues... Gas mileage is the best you can get. It's quiet, handles very well once you get use to it. It's a narrow machine which makes it very nimble, however it can also make it very tippy under certain conditions. As for the ride compared to the bearcat, there's no comparison. My last sled before the Tundra was the 570 Bearcat 20" track... It was heavy, poor gas milage, went through a jug of oil every 2 1/2 tanks, plus the bearcat had track push, and you couldn't carve with it. Only carved a few times with it and had to replace an idler wheel each time... Big heavy machine which is not meant for carving in the snow. It wasn't tippy but the bearcat went where it wanted to go, the Tundra goes where you want it to go. The Bearcat I was afraid to get it stuck on my own, the Tundra I'm not afraid to get it stuck, you get that machine moving forward or backwards 1" and it will tap it's own trail...

How does this machine do in light snow and warmer conditions like in Montana ? Mostly more vertical trails ? For trapping , is there a better machine choice ?
@NLGhostWolf
@NLGhostWolf 3 жыл бұрын
If you want it for vertical climbs you might be disappointed in the ACE as it is a heavier 4 stroke, a better choice for vertical climbs would be the 2 stroke etec Tundra Extreme. However if quiet and fuel efficiency is important then the 600 ACE is tops. Mine does very well in light snow. My sled is both fan cooled and liquid cooled, makes it good for warmer conditions.

NLGhostWolf, I think that Lynx has one called Lynx 49 and I have an Arctic Cat Norseman 6000 and its a similar type of sled. Good and Bad about the Tundra is the front suspension. Supergood if there is lots of bushes and things, the a-arms on mine is good but it collects Forrest from time to time. Gone from M8 to the Norseman and it is a different type of riding.

Right on, and we have a lot of brush here that I have to go through on a very regular basis. Nothing like riding a narrow stance sled through the forest. I've gotten a lot better this year, last year when I switched from the big bearcat to the tundra I found I was always over compensating for the turns by leaning to much. The Tundra only needs a little input to carve in the snow.

My Norseman 6000 is about 4 inches wider over the skiis. About the Skis (the ProUte skis)... I dont know sometimes I love them and some times I hate them. When you are out and scouting the Tundra and even my Norseman 6000 is so perfect. The sapmi people uses Tundras alot here in Sweden.

I've watched several of your videos with the 2019 Tundra LT how would you say it rides on hard packed groomed trails or across a frozen snow covered lake? When heading out ice fishing rarely going above 50-60 miles per hour?
@NLGhostWolf
@NLGhostWolf Жыл бұрын
Have you ever experienced riding in crusty conditions on ski-doo where you get into a speed wobble as one ski bites into the crust and then the other... On a wide ski sled you have a chance to recover somewhat. On the tundra if this happens it will throw you in the blink of an eye. But as for riding a hard pack groomed trail it's a dream, it won't dart side to side in other carbide tracks because the ski-stance is not like the other sleds (but this is not what the tundra was designed for)... I love the tundra but you need to understand, crusty conditions are it's worst nightmare... You just need to take your time in those rare conditions... I personally won't recommend the tundra as a trail riding sled, but it works well in those conditions... I would recommend studying the conditions you'd be most riding in and get a sled that best suits those conditions. Hope I'm making some sense, perhaps I could do a little talk on this during a live chat.

I've considered what I'd do the most and that is ice fish / hunt and secondary would be riding groomed trails. There was so much snow this year during moose season the snow was over the lights on my KQ700 with two inch lift. I want something to take me off the groomed trails and into the forest to explore and hunt. Then to use for ice fishing a couple trips a year.

I got the same machine and it will get stuck! Couldn't get out of the yard after the last storm. When the snow set up after a day or two I still had to snow shoe all the hills before I could get up. This is my second tundra, and I spend a lot of time operating these machines so I know how they handle (not one to muscle) in deep snow and I could probably go places most people can't, but you're wrong, they will get stuck. The snow you were driving on was set up pretty good. As far as going up to your waist, part of the video shows it wasn't over your boots. Bring your sled to the Cape Breton Highlands after a nor'easter and see what she can do up the hills - you'll get stuck or spend all day backing up and going forward with little progress. It's better than most, but not the go anywhere machine bombardier claims it to be. She pulls a good load but lifts the front end and won't steer on hills. And the ski skin kit is worthless... darts and won't steer under best conditions.

We get far more snow then you do in Cape Breton here in Western NL. Come to the Lewis Hills to see snow and mountains... I've pulled up along 4 sleds who were stuck, and I never had an issue even on 6' powder drifts. And I know it will get stuck but so far I've been able to go places others couldn't.

Because it is so nimble. That narrow stance and overall with allows me to cut a trail just wide enough for the Tundra and no other machine can follow me. I plan on getting back into trapping once the fur prices increase and this will help insure far less people coming behind me missing with my traps and snares. The lightweight of the Tundra makes the 600 ACE more power then the machine needs to move along. The shape of the belly pan enables the ski-doo to float up on top of the snow. Because it is so light I never worry about getting stuck and it takes something to get this machine stuck. It is unreal where this sled can go. I went from a Wide Track Bear Cat to the Tundra and don't regret it for one second.

The gas mileage on the 600 Ace in the light platform of the Tundra LT allows it to sip fuel. It's unreal... If this sled can move forwards or backwards 1 inch, you are not stuck. It will tap its own trail and come out on top of the snow again. This machine affords me the freedom to explore the unbeaten trails and remote areas where others don't go. Is it the best sled for the deep powder, no probably not. Is it the best sled in the powder for the gas mileage and quiet performance of a 4 stroke... I'd have to say yes... Basically, this sled put all the right checks in the right boxes for my needs in a good reliable sled and at the right cost. If I was to design a sled it would resemble the tundra 600 ace LT very closely.

I'm not sure Bob, but I can tell you that where I had it a couple of days ago I don't think anything could have broke that trail. Had to pass over some tuck-a-mores where the snow was only on the branches and not settled to the ground yet, we need a few good milds to helps the snow settle down through the branches and build up a good base. Well the sled was pointed sky-ward for a good 30-40 yards but it some how managed to get through. I had missed the trail and once I got on top of the Tucks I had to ride it out... A rough go. She has the different modes, ECO, Standard and Sport. I normally run in Standard full-time but have been known to put it in sport from time to time when I hit deep powder.

They claim 29 MPG and I can't confirm nor deny that claim. I know it sure goes a lot further then my old Bearcat use to go before adding fuel. I have never been one who needs to know the exact mileage I get on any of my vehicles. I never tend to feel the need to worry about things that are beyond my control. But if I were to guess I would have to say that it must be close to what they claim... Coming from the Bearcat 570 2 stroke to the 600 ACE 4 stroke was like night and day for fuel consumption... I know it's like comparing apples to oranges, but you won't get any complaints from me on the MPG the 600 ACE gets on my Tundra LT.

It might, but mine is so light I'm not afraid to take it any where and get it stuck by myself. Because if you can manage to get it moving 1" forwards or back, you're not stuck. You just tap your own trail and away you go. The front of the tundra acts like the tip of a ski and get the front of the tundra riding up on top of the snow in all conditions. I've seen the lynx videos and they are amazing sleds, but I'll stick with my tundra. It's all the sled I need and I'll go anywhere with it.

NLGhostWolf lynx 49 ranger also has the articulating rear suspension. the issue with 600 ace is that you don't have enough power to run a longer track with more aggressive luggs. 59mm luggs is realy amazing when you go off trail. my Scandinavia turing version has the same A-arm used on lynx 69 army. their bent in a way that gives extra clearance to snow and stumps. it makes a big difference compared with brp's other a-arm setup.

Or just plan foolish for picking that path, LOL... She can be tippy and be very careful in crusty conditions.
