Helped my Dad build one of these things about 20 yrs ago for his . He save $500 bucks building it himself. The whole time we were assembling it, I was wishing I had paid the $500 for him. He is gone now, glad we did it.

For anyone who is considering building this carport, PLEASE brace the building frames with temporary pieces of 2' x 4" or other material BECAUSE until you install several metal sheets, the building does not have strength in the event a lateral load is placed on the frame. While it seems it wont collapse, especially when a person is on the roof installing the first metal sheet, the frames may collapse , especially in windy conditions. I know this vedeo shows construction without braces, notice the frames shaking when lifting the first roof sheet. Nice video of a typical metal carport build! Always work safe. An 8 foot fall will ruin your day, so play safe.

Great tips and you're definitely right! I was feeling risky that day and just wanted to get it done. But certainly not worth the risk in the event of a fall

This wasn't boring as you stated, it was very useful with pertinent information. I'm in South Fl and everything rusts on the ground here too. I had considered setting mine (when I get one) on railroad ties to keep it off the ground, TBD. Thanks for taking the time, well done.

Good information- some good 👍 value! I just took down a used 12’ x 31’ carport yesterday afternoon & Trying to figure out how on earth I can re- erected it on my property by myself. Getting the old metal sheets- 31’ long off the roof was the most difficult; I underestimated how much sway & movement the building had until I was up on top, This one had just a roof, at about 12’ tall- approx 14’ in the center. Fortunately a relative of the seller was on site; he is a roofer and sheet metal worker, so he was able to assist myself & my 15 year old daughter with some of the disassemble process, without him , I’d had to make another trip to finish up today. You provided some good tips on the foundation, I like the idea of using the blocks to keep the metal up off the earth, for drainage and other benefits. I believe I can complete my rebuild 90% by myself, Just getting the metal up on the roof by myself might be sketchy.🤔 My plan is to use this A Frame carport as beginning for a barn and add a lean to on both sides for horse stalls, as well as a tack & feed room.

Last year I helped a friend build a similar carport (only his was twice a wide and slightly longer, for his RV and boat to fit side by side). We took about three days building it, and it was a fair amount of work, particularly getting the frame up and into place I wouldn't even consider trying to do it solo, so my hat is definitely off to you. Yours came out really well, and I like the additional steps you took (the back wall and the soil screws) to protect and secure it. I enjoyed the video.

First of all it looks great ! Secondly wouldn’t it have been stronger thus safer to apply some braces and siding before you climbed up on to the roof structure ? I’m not a builder but I got motion sickness watching you apply the roof metal.

This may not be something you would want to do but here it goes anyway. When you going to do something like this that your not familiar with doing , consider asking us viewers to maybe do a tradeoff in labor. I'm not suggesting getting people that know nothing but ask if any actual contractors ( in this instance) who are licensed and insured might put this up for you in exchange for you working on something for them. I might have done it back before I retired with a couple of my guys. With the right equipment it would only take 4-5 hours to put it up. You would get double the video or more if you were interested in taping your trip there and back. Just an idea, didnt say it was a good one though. You really need and acre or MORE of land out in the country, hoping YT might make that happen for you in the future, your content is very interesting.

Chris what the heck is that circular saw at 13.04 min? Is that an aluminum bodied saw from the 1960'S? Hope it's double insulated or at least properly grounded...those old saws could be quite shocking! Great video bye the way.

Yeah it's probably from the '60s. Found it at a flea market. It's pretty awesome. And I don't think it has a ground. Luckily only 120 volt though so I should be able to throw it out of my hand. LOL. I guess I shouldn't use it near water though. And thanks

Great video. Without knowing your financial situation If you added up all your costs for both buildings would it have made financial sense to have built one large building vs two smaller? Im considering consolidating my RV Barn with a new shop. Metal is high right now in Texas.

Thanks. And yeah you're 100% correct. Kind of wish I did. Never planned on putting another one up. But you know how it goes. Always need more space. Want more space should I say. Although the one they sing about these is I could easily resell this building for probably more than I paid for it in this market. Very easy to disassemble.

These are still p.o.s. , are just cheap tin. And now are 1.5x cost, plus no install or warranty. Just build your own with a lean to pitch roof out of wood. If you use carriage bolts, you can assemble and disassemble move it take it with you or easily resell unlike these metal ones.
