No. 11 Shrimper 19 Morning Vicar. My stove has broken so I need to find a replacement, build a galley box and install a Handpresso espresso machine.

Thank you for this video which has, unlikely though it seems, has awoken in me a low-grade anger borne of frustration. While crewing on what I consider to be a big yacht (32 ft) many years ago, it was agreed the bilges would be pumped hourly to vent any Calor gas that had escaped since I was informed such gas was heavier than air. You & I now sail small cruisers (me: Beneteau First 24) that do not have bilges, as such, so any leaking gas would be smelt pronto. But the threat & attendant risks still concern me. So, since buying my yacht I have been searching for an alternative to gas cookers & I have concluded, for my personal needs, a low pressure alcohol stove would be the thing to have on board. My quest led me to a stove called Origo & every comments I read was clearly positive save one issue - the fuel (meths) burnt cooler than other products so took longer to boil water & cook food. This I did not understand especially coming from WAFIs (wind assisted effing idiots). To paraphrase a quote "in a world whose only quarrel with instant gratification is that it takes too long, we as yachies are practitioners of a dying art: patience". I tried to order a double burner Origo but found they were no longer available & that possibly Dometic could offer a similar product but they too were unavailable. I am now left with the only practical alternative available to me - a Camping Gaz 2 burner stove - an inanimate object I have incomprehensively come to despise, a forbidding intruder into my otherwise welcoming cosy cabin. Thanks for allowing me to vent my spleen on this particular issue. Have a great sailing season.

hi. Thanks for the comment and the illuminating rant, I share your frustration. The portable gas cooker, in all it's various guises, is not an ideal solution but, for the moment, it seems it is our only choice. My retirement project will be to convert the boat to a regenerating electric saildrive. Then I will use all the energy i've generated from a day's hard sailing to boil the kettle on an induction stove. :)

I've just discovered your channel, have subscribed and will work my way through all your videos. Being economical ( my wife says stingy) the first thing that came to mind was how many times can you use a single coffee pod? Have you tried using one multiple times?

Thanks for watching. Unfortunately, coffee pods are quite disappointing the second time around; sorry

Good evening fellow sailor. I'm looking for a small cooker and came across to one similar to your's. It looks fine for the job but I'm a bit afraid of the size of the gaz bottle. Can you tell me, from your experience with it, how long does it rest. Many thanks in advance.

They last 3-4 hours on low heat. On full heat a lot less. I get around 6or 7 boils of a half full kettle out of one. I usually buy a pack of 4 at the start of the season and keep them in a sealed dry bag in the outside locker.

Nearly all dinghy/small boat cruisers see to go to a lot of trouble to make a cup of coffee. WHY? It takes so long. I use instant, so quick and simple. Strong Tesco’s Classic takes as long as it takes to boil a cup of water.

For me.. it’s the idea of making an espresso afloat. Just showing off for Instagram to be honest. Most of the time I use coffee bags.

Instant coffee tastes like mud. I'd rather drink my own urine.
