Useful suggestions, thanks. I have nav lights fitted on my Norfolk Gypsy, but good point about the masthead tricolour getting obscured by. the gaff. And nice improvisation with the torch 🙂

Thank you. I'm enjoying your videos too, The Gypsy seems a little more civilised than my MK1.

If you are under 7 metres and under 7 knots, you only need a fixed all round white light.

Indeed, if you are motoring, all you need is the masthead light. If sailing, however, you don't show the masthead light. Colregs says "A sailing vessel does not exhibit a masthead light unless it is also being propelled by machinery"

I would not be so ‘woke’ as to identify as a yacht! You move so slowly it doesn’t matter. If offshore away from much traffic just the masthead white shows you are there. And the white light can be seen from a greater distance. Then have the red n green when you encounter other close traffic. You could choose the white all round with the higher brightness off the class above, there increasing you visibleness, but not using any more power than the full set. Ok, perhaps not strictly in accordance with the rules, but a better , safer option?

Thanks. to date the only time i've used lights on the boat is creeping up the Dart when I got back late. I don't anticipate any extensive night sailing, certainly not offshore. If I do, I will almost certainly be proceeding as you suggest.

Yup, the red n green are very useful in a busy restricted waterway
