Nice video, very similar to the Post Boat reefing but without the rams horns!

I try to reef before getting underway if it looks bad. But times that I've reefed out at sea. I heave too and then it gives me plenty of time to reef the sail and get the boat squared away. Shripmer 19 heave too very well.

I agree, better to start reefed if you think you might need it. It's really easy to shake out a reef when you're underway.

interesting! This is more or less the same way it is done on a Dutch open keelboat called a 'Valk' ('Falcon')! Lines, blocks are in the same place!

Nicely done sir I found that useful as recently got a Shrimper with no manual supplied and was struggling to work out where the forward lines were routed cheers. I've just marked my gaff halyards so know roughly where to lower age gaff to. Was also wondering do you have any order to which sail you reef first ie gib or main. Was that a Philippines flag if so that was some voyage.....

Glad it helped, I know many owners start with the jib, its easier after all, but my first reef is always the main. I think its got the best balance with one reef in the main and a full jib. After that, a second reef in the main and finally the jib. Although if i start to roll the jib in, it's too windy and i'm looking for somewhere to stop. The flag is not the Philippines alas, I missed that out on the shrimper circumnavigation :) its the Brixham Yacht Club Burgee.
