This video covers the LN 97 1/2 Small Chisel Plane ($175) vs the Stanley 97 Cabinet Makers Edge Plane ($250-$700). This is No 6 in a series of videos I will be making comparing LN to Stanley. We will take a deep dive into the specs of the planes and discuss what LN upgraded and why.

I like the LN 97 1/2. It definitely comes in handy. Thanks, Jamie.

I have the LN 97-1/2. I frankly find it difficult to use. A good razor sharp 1” chisel can perform many of the same tasks, and in some cases is much more maneuverable. Thanks for the great review!

I have a WoodRiver chisel plane that I found on eBay for $65 its 6 inches long, I bought mainly for chamfer proud decorative dovetail joints on Shaker blanket chests that are one of my best seller, but I've found many uses for it. I really like it, though I've never used another brand, so I can't compare it to anything. Thanks Jamie for doing these reviews.

I'm hearing good things about the WR and I'm liking that it's smaller so I may be getting one ahha

@@BatCaveCreations Its of those tools that aren't totally necessary, but now that I own one, if something happened to it, I'd replace it.

I have the LN 97-1/2. Haven't used it much. it does take some time to adjust so blade is coplane with sole. I also have a Woodriver one, which is pretty cute.

In your opinion Jamie. What is the value ($) of the Stanley 97?

Oh man.... I have seen them for $250 and I've seen them go for $50. If you have one to auction start it high and aim for collectors. Personally I'd be in the $100-$150 proce range for one but I don't collect them :/ and deff don't reccomend using one haha

Top of the list of things not needed, because a chisel will do the same thing. That said, I have the Woodriver. It's not collectable, but it does what it's supposed to do, and is inexpensive.

I agree to a point lol it is a "specialty" tool, do you *need* it, no. Is handy to have when you need it, yes. I find it easier than a chisel at some tasks, esp. when the chisel handle gets in the way. I thought about the WR one but I was able to get this for the WR price so.... I went for it lol
