Its a written freestyle. I've seen the footage of him "freestyling" this verse too. Tho em is one of the best at off the dome as well, this was not that. There's 2 types of freestyles. Off the dome.. and a verse thats free of style/structure/concept. The latter is generally pre-writen or pieced together from multiple pre-writens and/or on the spot add ins

The first verse to this song was actually a freestyle Em did in his basement with D12 around the time of the Eminem Show. He freestyled over the Say What You Say beat and ended the freestyle with saying No Apologies. So that’s where the song is deprived from and he added it to the Re-Up in 2005.

The second verse gives me goosebumps. Especially the first lines of it. He isn’t saying he can’t sleep just for saying it or to tell us that he’s in pressure or something, he literally couldn’t sleep unless he takes ridiculous amounts of Valium, the drug he was addicted to. I imagine him so tired but at the same time can’t sleep then brings his notebook and write about it

This song came out after proof died then Eminem started abusing drugs in his depression from his best friend dying so he went into a hiatus and almost overdosed and died. Then he remembered he has a responsibility to his daughters so he had to snap out of it and do what Proof would want him to do as in get sober and be there for his babies. The guy that tried suing him was the bully that left him for dead in the bathroom in school and it also left him in a coma for a week and had to go thru intense rehabilitation for 3-6 months after coming out of coma. It’s a blessing to his Stan’s that he survived his first brush with death. Anyway, he mentioned his name in one of his songs early in his career and being the bully the guy is tried once again by filing a law suit for a million (i think) and the judge spit the reason why the bully wasn’t getting a dime outta Marshall. I think it’s a good story so I had to share it for those of you who didn’t know. I believe he’d be a totally different person had it not been for his uncle Ronny introducing Em to rap/hip-hop and his best friend Proof leading the way for Em. You still got it Marshall!! I feel you too! I doubt you ever lose it. Why his uncle Ronny & Proof moved on. Their job here was done. I’m sorry they left the way they did. I have no doubt they’re R.I.P. cuz of their role and look at how great they were at. They created a GOAT!

I absolutely love this song he put everything he had into this and then more, this song is so underrated it's one of my favorite songs by him.. All of Em's music just hits me in such a huge way.. I really don't think he will truly ever understand how much his music pulled me out of some of the hardest times in my life.. He has saved me more to then i can count
