Thanks for the review Lloyd. I hired a basic 1.6 model from Hertz in London way back in September 1990. At the time my Alfasud wasn't reliable enough for a long trip to Yorkshire. My impression was that the Cavalier wasn't so good around town but it excelled as a long-distance cruiser. Its engine was so smooth, noise levels at speed were muted owing to the Cavalier's aerodynamic shape.
@lloydvehicleconsulting7 ай бұрын
That sounds like quite a difference between an Alfasud and a Mark III Cavalier at the time! Very evident back in the day just how much cars were changing in a relatively short space of time. Thank you ever so much indeed for watching and commenting!

Excellent review Mr Lloyd, what amazing condition such a genuinely lovely car. It reminds me of The Bill of early 90s, as the default CID car in that colour.

The Mk3 Cavalier CD was a great car and the GL was a very well equipped car with a strong 2 litre engine. Even the basic 1.6 L was a fine handling, good cruising and comfortable economic family car with a massive boot. The navy blue was a surprisingly popular choice at the time with grey interior.
@lloydvehicleconsulting7 ай бұрын
Sir, we do like the Mark III Cavalier, particularly the CD and CDX models. The 2.5 V6 is the best one, of course... The non-metallic dark blue was indeed a popular car colour at the time.

Growing up during the 1990s, cavaliers were everywhere like the Ford Sierra and Peugeot 405. The thing about the cavalier mk3 is how well it's dated and still looks fairly modern. I love the calibra which was basically a 3 door cavalier.

Mum hadn't a clue how unique the car was ... Lol

Thank you for this video. My Maths Teacher at high school had the Opel Vectra GT version - in this colour. They sold these as Opels in New Zealand for a while (Next generation were Holdens!). I remember when they were new in my country GM had a contest where you were mailed a plastic key and if it matched an Opel Vectra at a local dealer you would win the car. But the contest flopped because there was a mixup with the keys or the terms and conditions of the contest. Going from my childhood memory.

@@lloydvehicleconsulting In Shark in the Park the credits proudly showed the GM and Opel branding and implied Opel supplied the vehicles (Refer to other comment!). Why did they market it as an Opel? Because its earlier Cavalier-based predecessor the Holden Camira got an unfair reputation for being an unreliable junkbox and they must have been trying to start anew! I thought this shape was cool. I got a burgundy coloured Matchbox Vectra when I was 8 for Christmas! You may be aware that I have a Vanguards 4WD Turbo model nowadays.

@@alaricbragg7843 , the Mark II Cavalier, which was a version of the Holden Camira, had an excellent reputation over here, which is a complete contrast to Australasia, it would seem, and the Mark III just continued on with that.

I actually drove a Sierra, with power steering, at the same place two years ago. I found it difficult to handle at lower speeds, which was not the case with this Cavalier, although I imagine that without power steering, it wouldn't have been much fun.

But in real life they were never used as Police Cars in New Zealand to the best of my knowledge.
