No spark. Is it the spark plug or the coil?

To test the ignition coil ground the spark plug and see if there is spark. If not then remove the kill switch and see if there is spark.
If there is then the wiring or the switch is bad. If not then the ignition coil is bad.

I have change the spark plug and the coli and the power is coming also have checked the timing belt checked all fuse Mitsubishi engine 4g64 chery cross easter vl5 model

I fixed my problem, there was a lot of grease/dirt mixed with some conductive grease from inside of the keyswitch, which shorted the Killswitch circuit Thanks a lot! I got spark now, now on to the carburetor..thanks a lot! These short are very informative

Would putting In performance spark plugs do anything bad? I remember when I first replaced the spark plugs, all were good except the 4th which was white, crusty and burnt. I drove 30000 km in 8 months and just drove 850 km in a day the last week. Oh man, maybe I asked too much of a van from 98... The plugs kinda oily on 1st and 4th imma try doing the spark test thing when I wake up Aight my brain small its clearly my starter my wires are fine 😅

I have brand new 2 year old 79cc engine and after this past winter I tried starting it up and it didn't have as much power when accelerating, it could hardly take me up a slight hill. Do you think that because it doesn't have much power anymore, that it could be the smark plug coil? I've changed the carburetor and that didn't work. Just let me know please 🙏

Carb needs to be cleaned spay carb cleaner also clean filter since doing that’s just buy a new spark plug and add fresh oil you’ll be good

Honestly not could be several things. I’m leaning towards the carburetor. When you say it doesn’t have much power, then you have to specify what is it that is not working.

@@10minutefix yeah so it starts up fine but when I pull the throttle it just doesn't put off much power. It doesn't sound any different, like it would be bogging down. It just seems like it won't pull me that fast, and when I go up a very slight hill it doesn't have enough power to pull me up. I changed the carburetor but that didn't work

@@chasedollars1643could be spark just bought a typoon bms that’s been sitting since 2017 lol for only 50$ quad came with everything looks new just had so many tweakers as a owner lol anyways she starts when’s she wants to carbs new so my next suspect would be the coil had no spark from both plug and coil explains when she starts she takes off slow also belt clutch could be bad haha Bro it’s your spark check that before you spend more money 😅

Ummm. My kill switch wire is not there. There is nothing that it would connect to or anything. Its an old engine so maybe thats it.

Something has to kill the engine. Follow the wire from the key switch to the ignition coil. There must be something in the ignition coil.

Going through this on my 2002 harley 883 . Both plugs get spark so go after the on/off switch next?

Is it not starting? If you are getting spark then it’s not the switch.

@neevsmazda07 spray carb cleaner in the carb and if it starts then you have a fuel issue. Check Fuel, fuel lines and then check carb. If it doesn’t start then do a compression test.

First, what equipment are you using? Second, not the key switch but the wire that goes to the ignition coil. That wire shuts the unit off.

@@10minutefix its a suzuki ltr450 quad. Dynatek ignition coil. Harness is brand new oem same as the ignition coil but its dynatek.

If you removed the kill wire from the ignition coil and you got spark but didn’t get spark with it connected then either the switch is bad or the wire is broken. Test continuity between the wire ends and if there isn’t any then the wire is bad. I’d there is then test the switch. The ignition coil is good.

Just on the on position. If it’s running then the spark plug is working.

If you disconnect the wire going to the on/off switch from the coil and isolate just the ignition coil and you don’t get spark then it is the ignition coil. If you get spark then it’s the wire.

It’s either the spark plug, switch or ignition coil. New ignition coil so you need to test the switch. If it’s good then it must be the spark plug.

Disconnect the kill switch wire from the ignition coil and start the engine. If it runs then it’s the wire. Remember you will not be able to turn it off. Or place the spark plug near the engine and pull the recoil starter to see if there is spark.

If you disconnected the wire at the ignition module and you still don’t get spark then it’s the ignition module.

There has to be some wire on the coil or somewhere on the unit that connects to the ignition coil and the on/off switch. That is the way it shuts the unit off or you would not be able to. If it has a harness connected to the coil then that’s where it is.

I have a Murray with no spark I unplugged the wire and it has spark now but only runs on starting fluid I cleaned the carburetor and it still doesn’t run what should i do

Well, first you have absolutely make sure the wire is failing because if it runs then you won’t be able to shut it off unless you unplug the ignition coil. Second, if it starts and you spray carb fluid to keep it alive then it is a fuel or air related issue. The carb might still be extremely dirty and not allowing fuel to enter the engine. The jets might still be clogged. I believe I have a video on cleaning carbs. Let me know if this helped.

The stator does not produce spark on a small engine. The ignition coil does.

Well not all engines have stators so how does that work? The ones that have stators are for charging the battery. Not to the spark plug. The stators create voltage and that voltage does not go to the ignition coil. I have never seen what you are describing. If you have then I would like to research it.
