A couple of weeks back, we asked for your questions on Sprint warmups. In this video, I tackle those questions head-on, providing insights to help you figure out how to become a better athlete.
Questions:
0:15 How early should you start to warm up for a meet? Why use hurdle mobility drills in warmup?
1:07 How do you adjust your warmups to different weather conditions?
1:51 How do you activate your hip flexor to feel loose before training?
2:23 Do you do backflips for warm up?
2:34 How much time do you leave between a warm up and your race?
3:27 Should warmups be the same everyday?
3:58 What is the best way to warm up before an intense training session?
4:27 How far should you do drills?
4:54 How do you warm up for prelims vs. finals?
5:44 How has your warmup routine changed as you learned more and raced more?
7:00 How much warmup is too much warmup?
7:56 Do you always do the same warm up?
9:00 How the warmup should feel… should I feel tired after it?

I'm 66 and hoping to compete in some Masters track meets (if I can find any that are not regional, national or world championships) and I want to train smarter than I did 46 years ago in college. I've only seen a few of Lyles instructional/informative videos and find them helpful. I wish I knew those sprint drills in the 70's. I need to look at all his stretches. Our coach taught us the Bud Winter floppy-wrists that robbed me of the drive I could have gotten out of my arms and I never thought about my glutes at all. We ate what we wanted. Also those drills where we kicked forward and high. Those never felt natural. I want to be more thoughtful this go-round. I appreciate that Lyle's is genuine, open and willing to share his experiences and what he knows. His outlook seems practical and analytical and that's what got my attention. And the fact I was in the stands at the top of the homestretch when he ran that torrid turn on his way to his 19.31 at the 2022 Worlds in Eugene. You really remember that when you see it in person. What a great meet.

I'm 62 and Noah's videos have been a massive inspiration for my 100-400 training efforts. Sprint drills in the 70's? What I remember are the In-Out flys over 100 meters, Flys over 30 meters, and some basic hip and hamstring stretches. It's way more advanced now and futile to compare then and now.
