2021 marks the ten-year upload anniversary of my two-part Noah's Ark video. Here's a slightly rambling walk-through of what I remember about making it (and where I stuffed up).
"The Sticky Side" - I'm going to make (very occasionallly!) irregular videos like this for a playlist called "The Sticky Side". After they've been up for a while, I'll set them as 'unlisted' videos, meaning they'll still be viewable but just won't be front and center of the channel. This is to ensure that the 'character' of the channel doesn't change if I go making a good amount of such videos. Which, knowing me, I probably won't, but who knows?

You may laugh about religion but sadly, sometimes things get bloody serious. Literally. Eg. if two "tribes" (for lack of a better word) are deeply convinced their resp. "most high" would appreciate if they go to war to ensure exclusive access to a certain piece of ground for the members of their tribe only - and that piece of land happens to be the same for both tribes. I wish I could laugh about that too ... I can't. (As this is written mid of May 2021 it's probably clear what I'm talking about.)
@azuradawn5683

@@mittelwelle_531_khz I think OP is describing laughing at the ridiculousness of various religious beliefs - not laughing at the harm that religion causes... There are plenty of hilariously stupid pieces of most regions' teachings - recognizing them as such doesn't mean that you don't take seriously the horrible things people do in their gods' names.
@mittelwelle_531_khz
@mittelwelle_531_khz 3 жыл бұрын
@@azuradawn5683 Thanks for responding. I understood the OP in the meaning you write and I didn't want to suggest he's taking such things lightly. What I wanted to remind to is the problem, that people believing ridiculous things are not necessarily harmless, in fact, their believes may cause them to do harmful things to others, just because they assume their god will like them better if they do. Consider this: It is often said that atheists are "godless", have nothing onto which they base their morals (so maybe they have no morals) etc. etc. And frequently then the ten commandments are mentioned and from that especially the one "you should not kill". But what was the VERY FIRST THING Moses did after receiving the commandments? Together with his brother and their fanclub, the Levites, he killed 3000(!) of their own people, .

Noah's ark was kinda a copy of 'The Epic of Gilgamesh' (and other flood-boat stories) So a sequel with a twist would be quite refreshing. It would make an awesome film. Actually having a wooden boat that size holding together would be an achievement in itself, add in the rate of rainfall hitting it, very impressive. It could be a short film.

I'm a designer and a person who's watched quite a bit of Disney/Pixar animation. The genius of this video, of course, is not in the animation, it's in the script and in the dose of reality we get watching you peel back this onion and get granular with the implications of loading an ark that can sustain 2 of every animal species on earth for the duration of the voyage! I absolutely loved it. BTW, It's funny (not funny) when one considers how much believers need to rely on 'suspension of disbelief' to believe this story.

The two original videos were exceptional. Proper satire. There are those that would claim that this misrepresent what “ actually “ happened. Which makes this funnier still. There is attention to detail, throwaway stuff, clear and cutting points, factually accurate information on the animals and much pointing out of the absurdity of it all. Lovely stuff.

I imagine it would take years to collect all the species, during which time, they would have reproduced, eaten one another, and died of natural causes: Chaos. They would need to have eaten in the years they waited before being able to board the ark, so the gathering of all they would need is simply mind boggling on its own. You did a marvellous job and there is still the nature of the boat build still to consider. Just how did 8 people manage such a project with hand tools only, as well as having to source all the materials before the days of Home Base. I remember sitting in a meeting and listening to the 'evidence' for this mythical event and accepting it on face value. I am atheist now.
