Thank you so very much Prof Chomsky for bringing light to a darkening world. You have been a guiding light for me and for the many, many people around the globe that want a better world.

It does make me sad that Howard Zinn didn't live to see the Occupy movement, but I'm happy that Noam is here with us :-)

Does anybody have a transcript of this talk? I can't really make out what Noam is saying. Damn those police sirens!

The 1%-ness is not based on income but on relationship to the means of production. 1% = bourgeoisie who own, 99% = proletariat who labor.

The economic crisis in Argentina a few years back was just as devastating to the nation's economy as our current crisis. Instead of unemployment, the workers took over the factories and ran them themselves. Had they not done that, the Argentinian economy would still be in the toilet. As a practical matter, does anyone know of a way to connect people who wish to join resources to start up an employee owned/run businesses today?

Noam the great! Read all his words.

Come on seriously? You guys seriously gave him two mics to hold throughout his entire speech? And on top of that you expected him to hold them like an inch from his mouth??? That's absolutely rediculous - you should have been properly prepared with a lavalier or head mounted mic. Damn shame guys. Damn shame.

what new york and other need to start doing is in the following order: 1. write down a official list of demands that we want are state,local and federal government to abide by. EXAMPLE: tax the rich, lower taxes for middle class and poor... class, jobs etc. 2.write it down on paper 3. put it in a proposed bill or legislation make a petition. 4. have all the wall street protesters sign it . 5. have each city force the state or local Representative to pass it and if they DON'T protest

Are you listening?? Chomsky's lecture contains a concrete strategy of the Occupy Movement: he weaves a thread from the 1930's sit-down strikes, which most textbooks ignore, to the 70's steel workers, ... to now. C'mon, workers! Let's take this sh*t over!!
@Skanoza12 жыл бұрын
A "movement" shouldn't have to be about the video camera! What did they, tie the handycam to a dog or something? Anyway, only someone as awesome as Noam Chomksy could make us ignore this cameraman's handiwork!

@Camila201138 I am curious to know what exactly are you doing with your science degree ? How are you using your science degree to benefit the common good ?
@HanzSygnal12 жыл бұрын
@CrackSizzlack He can't miss classes. His entire speaking career is built around not missing a single day of lecture for his students. I respectfully disagree.

You changed the name from Norm Chomski to Noam Chomsky. That's good (I thought that was funny). It does sound like Norm. At any rate, I have a lot more videos of OWS, including ones with Chomsky, at my youtube channel if anyone wants to check it out -- type in "munderlarkst" in youtube search engine and videos from my channel with come up. Please feel free to use any of them you want to continue spreading the word and to get as much info/education out as possible! Thanks! -Munderlarkst

It is misleading to say that if you make $50,000 a year you are top 1% globally. Maybe at this one second you are correct. But if you consider the dynamic financial markets and trade, it varies greatly. In 1995 making half that would have likely made you top 1% globally. Does that mean a bus driver is somehow responsible for poverty or is greedy because to barely make his house payment on a $25,000 job he is top 1% globally? Goods and services cost more, you can't really compare accurately

@ViperRob42 Amazing. You did it correctly then messed up all in the same sentence. "would have" is correct. "could of" is not. You should have used "could have".

I agree that things need to change, but more low paying jobs are not the answer. The economic gap needs to be narrowed. The wealthy need to share more of the profits with the working class who labor to make them rich. The focus should be on economic equality.

Whatever he is, I'm so happy he doesn't boil his ideas down into idiotic rhetoric like you just spewed. But his political views actually more closely resemble anarcho-syndicalism and I'm pretty sure he's an atheist or agnostic. Anyway, good job making a fool of yourself!

@Camila201138 You are one of those people who just because you got what you wanted (I do not know the details of what you do and who you are willing to work with in terms of ethics) you seem incapable of imagining that the life circumstances and opportunities for others could be different. Furthermore there are plenty of people like you who built all that and then due to system elements beyond their control are now on the street with everyone else.YOU MAYBE NEXT !!
