I'm a believer now. I watched this video the other day and numbered all of my arrows. As you said, out of a dozen, there were 3 or 4 that flew differently than the others. I turned the nocks and all of them came into the center. I used a marker and marked the arrow for the arrow for up just as you did. Heading to Africa in 9 days and I'm feeling much more confident in ALL of my arrows and how they fly. Much appreciate Sir.

THIS was the BEST "Tip" in Archery, "Arrow accuracy" that, I've EVER seen ! After Tuning my Rest with, a Bare Shaft,.. I just Fletch all Arrows with, NO "Cock Vane" then shoot, all my Arrows thru Paper at, 15 yards,.. "indexing Nocks to, Vanes" and then, I Mark the cock vane with, a Sharpie, a couple of ^^ up, vane ,.. DONE ! Remarkable Accuracy ! THANKS,.. R-F !!

Hey Troy just wanted to say thank you for all the information you are helping provide the archery community. You have helped me considerably. My local shop couldn't help me with anything as far as getting fixed blades to shoot properly with my xbow. I bought my own fletching jig. Went through bare shaft nock tuning which the shop said was unnecessary. Put on bohning x vanes 1 degree offset with a right helical lastnight. I shot it this morning and wow it works 1 inch groups at 40 with field points and broad heads.

I used to shoot recurves and longbows. Set them up the way you are setting up your compounds now. It absolutely works Great. Everything you say is true. I couldn't believe the difference high FOC, heavy arrows, nock tuning, etc. Improves Everything. Evan the bow felt better. Good to see you preaching to the compound users. Love your vidios. Your a hoot man. Bet your wife was nervous the first time she showed you off to her parents. Stumbled into you through The Hunting Public. I couldn't stand hunting vidios until I saw theirs, seem like a very good cast of characters. Problem is they remind me of how much I have slowed down at 68 compared to 25. Love the one where the kid try's to leap over the fence and crashes. No problem he gets right up and try again and makes it. I would still be laying their trying to get up. Keep up the good work

Place an insert and field tip in each end of an arrow shaft (no fletchings). Use something to compress or flex the arrow (we used a bow press). The arrow will flex only one way. Mark the top of arched arrow, set the up fletching to this mark. Then line nock to the mark and shoot to fine tune.

Always identify and mark the weak spine plane or the strong spine plane on each new shaft. It doesn't matter which plane you use as a reference. Then measure the spine on every arrow with your spine mark always oriented the same. Keep a notebook so you can compare various batches of arrows against each other. it doesn't matter whether you have the mark up, down, right or left. Just be consistent. Also, it is quite common to find one or two shafts out of a dozen that are significantly different from the others. Set the maverick arrows aside to use for stump shooting.

Depending on arrow manufacturer, a lot of arrows have a seam. That seam will be the strongest side of the shaft. That should always be indexed up when fletched
@RanchFairy

If you just find the spine of your arrows before tuning, you will be way better off. You have locate the exact spine. If jock tuning after already fetched, you can only get close. Maybe the true spine is between two of the vanes. If that’s the case, you’re screwed. So do your api e testing before you do anything else. Trim the shafts first, then find the spine, then fletch.

The same thing works with the broadhead if it won't behave, rotate the insert or shim the broadhead. A leather punch and paper or plastic makes pretty good shims for testing if you only want to move the insert once, brass shim is better if you don't want to move the insert at all.
@RanchFairy

Me NPC Here Howdy, I have an insert tuning video as well. But I think that differs. With Nock tuning we are trying to find the most consistent part of the shaft so it flies consistently, since it is being pushed. The broadhead end is about the head and shaft being in alignment so you’re not shooting a very long projectile with a bent “nose” creating aerodynamic issues. Is that how you see it?
@Marcus_from_OZ
@Marcus_from_OZ 5 жыл бұрын
@@RanchFairy Absolutely, you referred to the one arrow that was OK for field points but not broadheads, I'm an old fart and I hate to waste good arrows, they don't grow on trees (any more). 300gr heads are going to make the spine alignment even more important leaving the bow, that's mostly what you're doing with the nock tuning as far as I can figure out, along with slight inconsistencies in the fletchings. With the broadhead that initial flex in the shaft will induce the "steering" issues even with a perfectly straight shaft, insert and broadhead, I think it's why so many people use the mechanicals instead of fixed blades. I still use 2 blades, which I guess are the most likely to suffer from this if they're slightly misaligned with the spine but still "straight", it would still effect 3 or 4 blades to a smaller degree.
@RanchFairy
@RanchFairy 5 жыл бұрын
Me NPC Here I shoot every blade profile and mostly 2 blades. There is “relief” when the heads are short - one of the reasons Montecs were so popular. BUT / if you get your broadheads / inserts straight and nock tune - I can shoot anything - out to 100 plus. See my most recent video on bare shaft nock tuning. It’s the next level for those who fletch their own.

@@RanchFairy Watched the bare shaft tuning video and a few others including the one on bow noise and dancing pigs, you're absolutely bang on with that, I also agree about arrow weight and FOC, I've used nothing less than 700gr arrows since I bought my first compound bow. We fooled about with an endless tape of bow noise next to a dam we used to chase goats at, it was a bit over the top but it did desensitize them a bit to the sound.

Good process RF. I used to spine index, but I found that it never mattered anyway; it's just a starting point. I nock tune with bareshafts through paper; every single arrow. Then fletch (so my cock vane is oriented correctly :)) and shoot broadheads; it's pretty rare to get a different reaction when I do it this way. Both methods end with a well tuned arrow. Keep spreading the news, people are getting it!

those arrows that just don't behave, have you every put them on a straightness roller? I watched a episode on Bowmar channel where he would show that these company's just cut the point end of the arrow and call it good, but when he put the arrow on the roller, there would be a slight wobble on the knock end, problem cutting knock end is your "graphics on the arrow" dont look the same in the quiver lol. Kinda like how you showed the cocked feather isn't always gonna be up. Maybe those bad arrows needed to be cut form the back to get better/straighter arrow launch?
