*I have more to say!* - I'll be honest, there is a huge chance that I never do this kind of thing again. While they are still breeding endangered hoofstock, apes, and rhinos, it's only an inkling of what their efforts and collection used to be. Their goals used to involve breeding the most unusual, endangered and rare animals unknown to the general public. Nocturnal houses imo have some of the coolest species, I wish small mammals in general were way more prevalent in US collections. European zoos always make me jealous with the diversity of small mammal species they have there

Europe has also a better understanding of animal welfare I'd say (at least the most western parts and also some eastern ones) . As I'm from Germany I haven't seen any American zoos, but the videos from Zoo Tours are really good to "make your own picture" (I don't know if this has the right meaning, but that's how I'd say it in german😅)

And of what I know Europe also has the better tropical houses... Just look at Gondwanaland in Leipzig or the Masoala Halle in Zürich...

@@mulltonnenlidl7676 I might disagree on the welfare bit, there are good zoos and bad zoos in both the US and EU, there are species the US excels at and species the EU excels at, at least that's my take on it.

I LOOOOVE so much that my local zoo has had Ring Tails as LONG as I can remember. They're constantly rotated out of exhibit with a few other species (the Toledo zoo has a little indoor primate area with 2 glass fronts and a total of 4 species that use them) and it's always sad when they're not in cuz they're some of my favorites. There's also almost always babies every year!

I like this new series a lot, keep it up! An idea for another one: Congo Gorilla Forest at Bronx versus Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail at Disney. Two of my all-time favorite exhibits.

Cincinnati will always remain my favorite, though I must say, I was never aware that they had a Spotted Linsang or Pampas Cat, however, with a quick Google search I found photographs of both.

The Bronx Zoo used to have an excellent nocturnal building called the World of Darkness. Sadly, it was closed years ago due to budget cuts.

My grandma ALWAYS used to mention a nocturnal house within the Bronx Zoo, and I was completely unaware of it so I thought she was crazy, as it was already taken down. However, she mentioned the name "Darkness World", and I was shocked to see that they'd actually had a nocturnal house. I would LOVE to see how it would've stood today.

@@_dUmpling._.967 The Building is still there near the Geladas and Brown Bears. It hasn't had any animals in it in years, but they occasionally use it for non-animal seasonal displays.

@@matthewzito6130 Yes, I believe they used it as a haunted attraction some years ago, mostly for little kids and possibly adults, my knowledge on it isn't the best.

Great call, especially on the current state of Cincinnati. I'm sure in the next couple of decades all zoos in the US will just be collections of big cats, giraffes, elephants, great apes, meerkats, a coral reef aquarium and an Australian section. Personally i blame Disney as kids & parents just want to see Simbas, Dorys and Nemos

Maybe reptile house vs reptile house or aquarium vs aquarium? You could do a lot with this new format.

Great comparison! I’m trying to squeeze Memphis in to my trip later this year, in addition to Fort Worth, Cincinnati, Columbus and San Diego. The nocturnal houses at both look… bleak. Not a fan of any of those exhibits to be honest! Could do with a massive rework to give the animals bigger spaces and natural substrates. They’re depressing and claustrophobic to look at.

This is a big issue with a lot of indoor facilities in American zoos, especially nocturnal houses. Nocturnal houses have been outdated gimmicks here for quite some time. Small enclosures, concrete floors, 0 natural lightning, 0 fresh air, and unnatural red uvb lighting. It's just a huge mess. Most animals are just sleeping anyways, so why not keep them outdoors in larger enclosures? Just my opinion, but nobody can deny the fact that all of the concrete is horrible.

Love this! I worked in both buildings and each definitely has their own pros and cons. I'd have to give it to Cincinnati for the overall win

I appreciate the exhibit theming and variety in Night Hunters vs. AotN's exhibits, which are all virtually the same. However, AotN has a majority of species that most wouldn't mind seeing indoors, while Night Hunters has too many animals you'd expect to get outdoor access.

You should compare safari rides. You should compare three safari rides: the Africa Tram at San Diego Zoo Safari Park, Kilimanjaro Safaris in Disney's Animal Kingdom, and Expedition Wild Africa at ZooTampa.

ive worked with zoos and wildlife conservation for years..and seriously...mention the vampire bats..they had them in berlin zoo years ago when i was on a zoo tour there from the one i worked for..now only vampire bats in europe are in 1 collection.poznan i believe.v rare..good job mentioning aardwolves..hyenas other than spotted are rare..i was at a private collection they had a pair of brown hyenas which are pretty scarce in collections..think aardwolves in only one collection in the uk..love the tour vids though..the desert biome, invertebrate houses and museum /zoo tour were great

I definitely love the Memphis Zoo!! My local zoo for the win!! I do agree that sometimes its too dark. Some animals I can't see, and the mell!! It does stink. Currently, they are doing maintenance in the Animals of the Night. Not sure what kind upgrades may ne happening if any.

Fantastic video Zak I definitely think Memphis has the better nocturnal house as well due to its rarities And well better exhibit quality compared to Night Hunters. Also just wanted to ask what do think about Disneys Animal Kingdom having a South American due to it most likely replacing dinosaur and do you think South American species will be added to Animal Kingdom?

Omaha's will be extremely tricky. I only filmed Cincy's and Memphis's because you can see with or without the main lights. There are times in Kingdoms of the Night where you quite literally can not see in front of you. I have software to help with this, but it would be a pixelated mess.

@@ZooTours Will you ever do a video on Omaha's African Grasslands, Asian Highlands, Hubbard Expedition Madagascar, Hubbard Gorilla Valley, Hubbard Orangutan Forest, or primate lagoon? At the very least I'd love to see the first two, I've yet to visit Omaha or find any good YT videos that cover those parts of the zoo.

Probably the best of the nocturnal exhibits but still not a very good exhibit in terms of animal welfare. Nocturnal houses are really a thing of the past. The best part of Kingdoms of the Night is their excellent Bat Cave enclosures. But the tacky Swamp exhibit, the extremely small and dated Aardvark enclosure, and extremely small and honestly totally unnecessary Enclosure for the Wallabys and Echidna. Also just the overall weird Animal mixes and decisions to keep animals like Alligators, Caimans and Beavers in too small nocturnal enclosures, when they are proven to work and do much better outdoors. Omaha is a great Zoo but these American Nocturnal houses need to go. The animal welfare is a huge issue the AZA needs to tackle sooner rather than later.
