i've always felt that this story was a metaphor for drug addiction... the way it's brought up in the beginning of the story sort of gives it away. the beginning rooms are goofy, representing the novelty of trying a drug for the first time, despite the dangers you may be aware of. the middle rooms are the beginning of the less pleasant symptoms of continued drug use. room 3 is the beginning of the addiction setting in, as the door locks here. the hum is the need for the drug setting in, a constant compulsion to use it, to continue progressing through the house. voices, visions, hallucinations... the later rooms represent the eventual real-life effects of drug addiction- you lose your family, you slowly k!ll yourself because- you need it, don't you? that compulsion drives you to ignore the fact that your continued progression through the "house" is destroying you and everything you love. and even after you think you've escaped, after you've become sober. the compulsion never truly leaves you. there is no end. all this to say this story is absolutely masterful and i love it
@lorindawoerner4452
@lorindawoerner4452 7 ай бұрын
I agree. This could be a really good metaphor for rug addiction. Just about every sentence could be related to drugs. The fear he faces from the start and how he overcomes the emotion of the room only to then go back to a room and feel another emotion just as bad or worse than the emotion he got over the previous room. It really illustrates how things can compound all the while you think you're coping

@fritosnlegoshai
@fritosnlegoshai 10 жыл бұрын
Marz Villian Pretty much. With much more daunting psychological torture in my opinion. Both feature a place that is said you will never get out alive. In 1408, there is an old hotel room that has a history of occupants committing suicide only hours after staying in Room 1408. Our protagonist is a renowned supernatural debunker who thinks he can get a book deal out of debunking this mystery. The hotel manager is reluctant to give up the key. The room hasn't been rented out since the 1950s. He keeps the room clean, alright. However, he doesn't allow housekeepers to stay more for than 10 minutes at a time and all other employees are scared to enter. Our protagonist insists and there begins the perilous struggle between room and man. It stars John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson. It very well made and good quality. The movie is based off a Stephen King short story of the same name.

Money, the right actors and actresses willing to perform for an unfamiliar director, having to cater to the typical horror movie set up (A love interest would be added somewhere and there would be a shower scene in one of these rooms for no reason at all)

Listening to this as my window is being flung open and shut by the light gust of wind and the weather is freezing cold with the sky covered in very dark clouds and rain pouring down hard. I am sitting down wrapped in a blanket, hitting my weed pipe and slowly drinking a cup of hot chocolate all while Pizza Hut is on the way(yummy)! DAMN! Can things get any better right now?? This is paradise!

I actually feel like this kinda tells the story of a drug carreer. He "kills" his parents, after that even himself, the feeling of invisible bugs crawling over one's skin is often described as a symptom of a withdrawal. He sometimes just wants to give up but then the low humming (the addiction) drives him forward again. And in addition, the whole story begins with him telling us of one of his friends being a drug addict, and he later denys being an addict multiple times - a typical way to speak about your own addiction without directly telling the listener what you have been through. Of course that's just my interpretation, but it's pretty much spelled out for us right in the beginning.

I definitely thought that the doppelganger was actually him in the future in the next room. That the Other David was crying and begging because was real David from the future and already knew what was going to happen. And then our current David would go into room 10 and be the David in the chair begging for his life (if that makes sense)

I've been told that I'm a really good story teller and so this is one of my very favorites to tell. every time i tell it all of my friends start crowding around me, and by the time I'm done, a practical mob full of people i barely know have come and are listening intently. WHen i finish with "as I saw the number ten on my front door" And then they are just like And...? then i smile and say "the end!" ... .... WHAT?!

This is some seriously top-notch voice work you're doing here, man. Seriously, your voice work really gets me invested in the story. This really got my blood pumping and my heart racing. I wonder if you'd consider narrating some old Lovecraft stuff if you haven't already. Especially "Dagon" and "The Nameless City." Those are my favorites. But regardless, keep up the good work.
