Oh how nice I was not the only one thinking of hell girl. That was a fun series.

Beat this game and it was exceptionally fun. Definitely isn't death note with a female protag like people might think, and I'm glad. Personally I didn't mind the pacing, my gripe lied more in the ending. Most things you can deduce on your own, but they never did explain the first corpse murder. Great game though!

This VN went from being really engrossing, to being complete nonsense, but loops back round again to being so bad that it's enjoyable shlock to finally being just plain bad. If I was to describe this story in one word it would have to be "aimless".

I come here with a question for anyone who can and is willing to answer: Is the game worth finishing? We've been playing this with a friend of mine for some time now, we've specifically gotten to the end of act 2, and quite frankly, we are disappointed. Main gripe is probably Junpei who is from his first introduction written like a punching bag, a one dimensional character, not a villain you love to hate, but instead a scribble of a guy that the author constantly screams at you that he's awful. This is fine with a one use unimportant character like the boss lady from your work who you barely talk to, but Junpei is constantly on the screen and it just makes every fibre of my body cringe in discomfort. The second gripe, probably less important, but definitely more painful is how Kojiro is treated. Massive spoilers ahead, up until roughly the last third of the second act he's shown as this cold and calculating man, he doesn't hide that all that's in it for him is Noriko's interest, but he's always calculating about it, he doesn't do things just because, he does them because they further his goals, but the final encounters with him all logic goes out of the window. He attacks a man in plain daylight in the middle of a café with the intention to kill him, he cuts his own arm off at the end for crying out loud and the author has the audacity of Noriko jokingly saying it just a couple moments before, he shouldn't have taken that seriously. Oh and the fact he cuts the wrong side is just an insult to the injury, that felt like a real spit in the face. Also importantly, albeit ignorably, all nuance and subtlety had gone out the window. Most of the game balances corpse girl's work with the fact that she needs to avoid the authorities, but I'm the later parts of act 2 we are shown things like the already mentioned cafe attack, where btw not a single person tries to stop him, and no-one calls the police for the whole several minute conversation they have. We also see multiple mistakes that should've had the authorities all over our main cast, and yet, no reproccusions are to be seen. Also the fact that Kojiro has dragged the body of his girlfriend in shock across the city after she was killed is fine. The fact that no-one stopped him, no-one came looking for her body, and no-one has ever questioned him about the disappearance of her body, which he was seen dragging across half the fucking Tokyo is mind bogglingly stupid. Last but not least we have gotten to the first panel of act 3 which was enough to see that's from perspective of Aoi, which means we will see a lot more Junpei which means either one of following: 1) the author keeps him the same and I will force my eyes out of my asshole in discomfort. 2) The author will try to redeem him, which will not be easy because while someone like Tomoe was easily redeemable being written as a bitch, but also a reasonable understandable human being, Junpei has been put into the game as a massive "Hate me!" sign which means trying to make him likeable is equivalent to defecating into your own oral cavity. Or 3) we will not see much of Junpei which will probably make very little sense because Aoi is his girlfriend after all. The list is in order of likeliness. TLDR: Kojiro has been done hyper dirty, Junpei is a badly written one dimensional character, and the plot holes have been growing in numbers rapidly so far. Is the game worth finishing after act 2?

The writing goes full retard after chapter 2 and my suspension of disbelief is gone. They should had erase chapter and add cuple of chapters extending on characters and the alternate endings. The choices in the game didn't matter, this is a 2022 visual novel but has less interaction and endings than X change 3 an eroge from 2006. I would compare it to other short novel about villains like Saya no Uta but Saya had much more in uninverse logic and characters didn't just get away from police while bodying hundred of people. 8/10 for chapter 1. 7/10 for chapter 2 and 2/10 for chapter 3. Overall 5/10

Is this, a choose your own adventure game or is it a linear story that doesn't change based on how you play ?

While the art, music and voice acting were quite good, the same thing can't be said about the story and characters. The plot is very nonsensical most of the time. The character's motives, and especially the main premise and twist with the deaths that happen, make very little sense. A lot of things that happen would never work in reality, not even close. (Also there is quite a bit of bitchy drama and talk about make up and relationships in chapter 1, It's a pain to read at times.) The characters seem to be slaves to what the plot wants to do. For example, the police is apparently completely incapable of having even a single coherent thought/deduction for the convenience of the plot. And Corpse Girl is one of the most stupid and deluded main characters I've ever seen. Actual clown thinking she's Light Yagami or something, lmao. It was impossible to take her seriously. But somehow she is treated by the narrative as some sort of calm and collected (how???) mastermind. While it was interesting that they included mental illnesses, it felt like it was just there so they could throw around some terms like agoraphobia, etc. as some sort of "twist" or "spice". It felt like these and the darker topics that were covered would've needed a more mature writer to do them justice. The explanations and twists of the endings seemed farfetched and just kinda shoehorned in to justify things that didn't make any sense. All that said, it still is entertaining because there is so many over the top and stupid things that happen, or that are being said. tldr: very silly and nonsensical story that takes itself seriously, which makes it funny. If you are looking for a serious mystery thriller you'll probably be disappointed. Overall: 6/10
