I just got done with my physical and background check. Waiting on my start date for training. I’ll be doing track maintenance out of Easton Pa.

Thanks for the update good sir. Everything is sorted my way, just waiting for a legit start date for GA (was told it could be 4-6 months 🙄). Your signal video is helpful also. Definitely a better explanation than others I’ve found. Thanks for all the info man 🤙.

I hired out in Allentown as well. You hear anything yet?
@The_Rabid_Ferret3 жыл бұрын
Matthew Groulx I haven’t heard anything yet. I’ve emailed HR and basically got this generic email saying they will contact me when there is a need for conductors in that location. I was hired May (to give you an idea on how long it’s been). Well at least that’s when everything cleared for me, background and medical stuff. I guess we are stuck playing the waiting game for now until a need arises. I expect Covid has a hand to play with the delay. Hopefully your wait won’t be as long good sir 🤙.

How long ago was that? I was told last week that there was “discussion” about releasing class dates this coming week. You have an email or some other form of communication (reddit, Facebook, etc) Not really too comfortable talking about this stuff on a public forum.

Matthew Groulx See if you can send me a private message on here. It should be in my “about” section. I wasn’t able to find any message settings on your page though.

I don’t really use social Media. I haven’t received any emails though from them in months though so probably wouldn’t be any help with your curiosity. I’ve pretty much just kept working and figure I’ll hear something when I hear something 🤷♂️.

Hey Anthony, going through the hiring process, just did my drug and medical exam, how has your experience been working as conductor, I will be working in Greensboro, NC, have you heard anything about that yard? Thank you
@LifeOfMateusz2 жыл бұрын
Can you end up alternating between yard work and road work for your entire career, or do you stop doing yard work as soon as your training is completed?

Thanks for the information. Do you have any suggestions for classroom supplies we might need during training? Such as any type of recording devices, a laptop or tablet, etc....
@absoluteblockproduction20394 жыл бұрын
They give you a laptop to use at the training center, but if you have one of your own, bring it to use in the hotel. Other then that a good supply of pens, a good notebook..basics.

I just got hired for Peru, IN. Lake Division. They said I won’t go to school until sometime next year. I wonder when that will be. I know Peru is normally a spot where they just re-crew freights moving down the line. It’s not a big yard like Harrisburg, etc. I’m hoping I get to work a lot and not experience furloughs.
@crambo765 Жыл бұрын
I know this old but I was just given a conditional offer for Peru. Wondering if you’re still there? Would you recommend working tgere

Anthony - can you provide some clarification on this. I’m reading some info that’s staring that if you’re on the extra board that you can be called in to cover any job. When they say “any job” does that mean you could be a yard jockey or some other yard job? Or does that mean you could just be on a different route?
@ohboy25923 жыл бұрын
Yes. Any job you are qualified to work on they can call you for off the extra biard

Thanks for the information. Can I ask you a few questions? I applied for Norfolk Southern a few weeks ago and I was wondering what do you think about Precision Scheduled Railroading? Has Precision Scheduled Railroading been good or bad to you and your coworkers? Do you worry about being furlough?
@absoluteblockproduction20394 жыл бұрын
611Anime PSR has probably been the worst thing I’ve seen, because it has negatively affected some of our customers. I personally believe it was not implemented properly and has caused some of our customers to return to reviving product by truck because it’s cheaper to utilize vs. by rail. It has also impacted the guys on the ground working by adding additional work load with less manpower to get the job done, which also increases length in time to work. Although we make more money with having to work the longer shifts, it’s taxing with the additional work load. The theory I see is, “ do more work with less” which in my option is going to be an accident waiting to happen with fatigue being the #1 leading cause of accidents. I don’t worry about furloughs right now with the area I’m in being a busy place.

@@absoluteblockproduction2039 Thanks for the info on PSR. I should be getting a phone interview soon. If I have any more questions, I'll let you know. Thanks again.

Until you get 5-7 years of seniority, furloughs are always a concern, I worked at one of the busiest locations on ns and we had conductors furloughed for the second time in their career. 5 years seniority and cut. Only off for 2 months but still.

Once you finish the Georgia school do they assign you anywhere in the US? Or around where you live? Pls someone let me know thank you!
@absoluteblockproduction2039 Жыл бұрын
They will assign you to the closest location where you live, unless you’ve already made an agreement to work at a different location.

Hello, I’ve recently been applying, and I have a few questions if you can answer! I was wondering what the hourly pay to start as a conductor is before you become an engineer? Also if their is a lot of OT available. Best, Chuckie
@absoluteblockproduction20393 жыл бұрын
chuckiej jimenez training pay while a conductor trainee is $800 a week, after you complete training and are qualified, it goes up from around $20 an hr training pay to around $27 an hr. It’s a step rate pay increase over 5 years to 100% rate, the 27 is at 80%. OT depends on your terminal and workload, but I typically work atleast an hr or two overtime a shift. Overtime in the railroad is daily anything over 8hrs.
@davidchadwick54233 жыл бұрын
During the 3 months training in your division, you're still making the 800 a week, yes? Are you paid for overtime during this training phase,...meaning above the 20x40hrs per week? If you are put and stay at a hotel, are you paid the entire time, or just for an 8 hr shift? Do they pay for your hotel stay? Food during those extended trips? Thx

Hey Harrisburg Division! I just commented on your earlier video. Where are you based out of? I was in Baltimore Bayview Yard, started out on HB-01. Worked the Port Road also. Super (Dennis Murton) was a scab. Ended up leaving for a class 3. Still get out to buff you guys once in a while. Live up Harrisburg way now. Hit me up.

I was based out of enola running the port road to bay view and to Edgemoor in De. I have just recently left, out of my entire hired class there’s 1 guy left from 6 of us..

@@absoluteblockproduction2039 it's a tough gig my friend. If you're looking for work as a conductor send me an email. I'm working for a great short line over in NJ and have friends on the Delmarva Central as well. Stay away from R&N...they're nearly as bad as NS. hossandmark@yahoo.com
