2:23 I’ve never heard an electronic diesel horn before. That futuristic sound is coming from a device a railroad crossing features. Now that’s what I call a space horn!

5:14 That rail-trail on the right I was surprised to see in such a small town. Looking at Google maps it goes towards Columbus. The railroad line becomes active a ways further on and it becomes a rail-with-trail with a different trail name. Here is a Google Map overlay with the Pennsylvania Railroad's mostly abandon Columbus - Indianapolis via Bradford OH line with PRR millages. I checked the milages and they should be at least within 100-feet of the the actual mile makers. For some unknown reason the PRR lost about 950-feet of route millage numbering around Knightstown IN MP-156. That is included in these millages which were taken from PRR Track Charts. The MP-181 was taken from a CSX valuation map. The CSX valuation map shows the new location of mile maker 181 being about 950-feet before where the actual survey station would place it. I try to have the centerline within 10-ft of actual railroad alignment centerline. Most of the time it is much closer than that. In places where there appears a larger discrepancy there is likely something making it look that way, but it should be very close to the actual centerline. The curves were taken from the track charts when there is was no indication of the RR alignment through plowed over fields. The PRR line sub ballast I was working around April 2023 at MP-173 was all rounded over with grindings and dust. It wouldn't have held a train up very well. I've never seen sub ballast so worn out. Have you ever got your drone up around Middletown? Reed Yard and the AK Steel ops seem interesting. The CSX Middletown Sub doesn't get much coverage either. Appreciate all your work!

I think the tri-light signals are NYC G-Series if I'm not mistaken. I grew up in Springfield in the 80s and 90s and the Dayton District was a pretty busy line during the Conrail years. Then when they shut down Buckeye yard, that eliminated a decent amount of traffic. London was a pretty big junction between the PRR and NYC back in the day.

The reason you didn't get 178 at LM Cabin was because it goes for a crew change at Hauge Ave, west of LM Cabin. The first CSX local was H709, the second H792, and the NS intermodal was 218. The Ohio Central train was the NKWA (Newark to Watkins Turn); it was packing away the cars for Watkins, running around, and taking another cut back to Newark. You should try an Ohio Central Trip, the Newark area is pretty busy. Lastly, I forget the symbol, but the CSX local trying to get into Watkins was a Y symbol. I believe Y135 does the interchange. I believe that the flashing X at the crossings in Springfield are for the train crew if the X is flashing they don't use their horn signaling that the crossing horn and warning system are working properly

Wow! Another video of where I used to run trains in the late 1960s & early 1970s. Occasionally I would get a piggyback train at Riverside Yard in SW Cincinnati. SV8 or TV8 something like that. Usually several surplus E units. We'd take that train to Columbus Union depot where we'd swap crews. At the elevated Dayton Union Terminal we'd stop with the rear end just east of the Miami River bridge and a goat would pluck off a car or 2 and add one or 2. The umbrella 'sheds' were still there and the piggybacks would not fit under them so we could only use the far south track. We ran down the middle of the street at Springfield. I see they have done away with that. London was a diamond crossing with the PRR when I hired out and the intermodal ran NYC all the way to the Columbus station. By the time I left for the west they had built the big new Buckeye Yard and taken up some of the NYC east of London. Between Dayton & Cold Springs tower SE of Springfield the NYC & Erie-Lackawanna each had a single track that we each used as Double Track. If we were going to Bellefontaine (which was most of the freight trains out of Sharonville) we would run on the Erie between Cold Springs tower and Glenn Echo tower north of Springfield to by-pass the middle of the street running in Springfield. The flashing x is to let us know if we have to blow the train horn, if it’s flashing then no train horn, if it is not flashing then we blow the train horn.

I read about those flashing "X's". There are some visible on VR's. I BELIVE that they indicate to approaching trains that the horn system is working and they do not have to blow the horn on the engine.

Flashing X's remind locomotive engineers "no horn"

Intermodals have the highest priority on practically every railroad due to profit and small time windows, therefore most likely whats happened is 178 had to stop for the intermodal train to pass through it. I don't know how close in the number of blocks a train has to get before they decide to park a train in a siding but considering there was a few trains through there its possible 178 was waiting on other trains to pass, especially if they aren't priority.
