Normalized behaviors in dance that are actually toxic... let's talk about them! There are so many wonderful traits that dance training encourages us to develop such as self-discipline and perseverance, but let's be honest... sometimes it goes a little too far. Since awareness is the first steps in the process of change, I am making this video to shed light on these behaviors dancers often do (or are encouraged to do) so we can start to takes steps towards practicing healthier behaviors that will help us to have sustainable dance careers. Stay tuned for part 2 of this video next week where we will be taking about behaviors teachers do that are normalized but toxic!

These behaviors (except maybe for the food issue) are also widespread in the bubble of competitive ballroom dancing. Time for change, but it proves difficult with the lack of awareness...

I have been through all of this. Looking forward to part 2. I would really like your advice on what to do if your ballroom teacher/dance partner is emotionally abusive? I have called him out, he stops for a little bit, then starts up all over again. The last 3 years he's been like this, and we were really respectful before that. Have thought about switching studios, but have had him for 8 out of the 13.😪❤️❤️❤️

Has anyone read the Ballet School Confidential trilogy by Charis March? It's a showcase for the complex dysfunctions that happen in the elite dancing world. You can get it as e-books, not sure it's in print anymore.

Yoga is a healthier philosophy: Some work, no struggle. Ballet and misogyny have lots of similarities, uncoincidentally.

That's mostly ballet issues. Although I tear foot tendons on a couple of occasions during k-pop dancing.
