A Day on a Gladstone Tug

I meet a mate in Gladstone. He invites us aboard as he skippers his tug out to escort a gas ship out of the harbour.
We cruise extensively along the East Australian Coast on our 13 meter catamaran. Join us as we explore new cruising grounds, cross bars, fix all kinds of problems, ride out rough weather and live aboard for extended periods.
We even have a playlist that gets us on other peoples boats.
We hope that our videos encourage others to get on board and experience this fantastic lifestyle.

I live near the River Tyne in the UK , you realise how vast a towing company Smit is when you guys get tug services from the same company. Love the channel name ! Great viewing. Ivan

GREAT VIDIO GUYS Known Mal for some time, top bloke very generous with his community volunteer work with VMR . Helped me out with his engineer 10 years ago to gain more practical knowledge in my pursuit of gaining my marine engineers' qualifications. Been a marine tech/ engineer for the last 52 years. Heard a lot of sweet songs in my time but you can't beat the throb of big h.p. and multiples engines running in the same room. It nearly makes an old man feel young again.@@MotorSailingforOldDudes

Wow thanks, that was really interesting. My Grandad worked on tugs after the war in Portsmouth Naval base, he retired before I was old enough to see him work and he's long gone now. Thanks for the insight. Andrew

Fascinating machines. I saw a video about some rich European or Russian who bought a massive second hand North Sea oil rig supply tug and did it up inside. It was astonishing.

Such a great video, thanks. Not just showing us the fabulous toys, but also giving a great impression of how tugs and their crews work with the pilot to get things done. What an incredible bit of gear ,, 1980 I worked at QAL , had a 6 yo and a 4 yo , quite often to kill the afternoon we would go to Facing Island on the old Calypso ,, how things have changed in 40 and a bit years ..

Yeah Peter, Start off as a deckhand on a commercial vessel and work your way up. Lots of sea time and study required.

Not sure. I guess you could apply with the company. Would definitely help if you had some sort of marine qualification. Coxswain or Master certificate
