There’s a little more then that, it usually goes like this; either Loki pulls some shit or the Aesir make a deal that they can’t/don’t want to fulfil, they get Loki to deal with it, Thor ends up killing at least on 1 person

What I really like about Norse mythology is that their gods are "grounded" enough so that it is actually plausible and understandable that they can have all the cool adventures they have. Unlike most other pantheons, these gods are below the universe, rather than "being" it (ahem, Egypt), they even constructed the world out of a bigass corpse, so you aren't constantly asking things like "wait why can they lose eyes" or "why do they need walls", etc, they aren't conceptual beings, they're pretty much a powerful race of dudes.
@ethanreddy6551
@ethanreddy6551 4 ай бұрын
You can argue conceptual stuff with Thor as he basically imprinted a biological feature across all salmon when he gripped a Shape-shifting loki as that's the only way to label the feat But yeah despite their power they aren't as fundamental as the Greek or Egyptian gods

@@Dexuz in short, to me personally the gods represent different aspects of nature and the understanding of my existence. It helps me feel connected to nature and my ancestors through the gods. You have different deities for different tasks such as invoking Odin on giving you wisdom to help you finish a test or Thor to protect you and help you finish the race. In ancient times the stories would have been not only a form of entertainment but also their way of understanding the environment they were inhabiting with some life lessons sprinkled in. As for Ragnarök, it is a representation that the world will definitely come to an end but through its death will come a rebirth of a new world.
@legojarjarbinks2564
@legojarjarbinks2564 4 ай бұрын
@@sosa_prodigy_notthen what's the point of even associating with the Norse mythos since you basically believe in the abstract ideas that are somewhat represented by these obviously flawed and human figures? All myths were created as a way to explain the world around them with their limited knowledge, so anything related to them is simply outdated by our standards. Trying to make it less ridiculous by saying you worship their "aspects" and connect with your ancestors doesn't make the fact that Norse mythology is ridiculous and shouldn't be a basis for any actual beliefs. You don't see me praying to the ideas that Zeus represented just so I could get a blessing from the ultimate fertility God, that's what viagra is for.
@sosa_prodigy_not
@sosa_prodigy_not 4 ай бұрын
@@legojarjarbinks2564 I’ve been taught by the Marines of the importance of spiritual wellness is to the health of oneself. This can come in many forms such as religion and I have chosen to follow the Norse pantheon. What’s great about Pagen religions is that they are not organised and are always changing so nothing is really “outdated by our standards”. A lot of myths still have important lessons in their core like always being a good host to your guests. Following the Norse pantheon is more of a personal journey for me and even though I may find a lot of things in Christianity and Islam ridiculous, who am I to point the finger at them and tell them you praying to this one god “shouldn’t be basis for any actual beliefs”. I’m also pretty sure you would invoke Aphrodite in Hellenism for sex depending on your goal not Zeus. But hey, who knows in the context 🤷‍♂️

I love this. Reminds me of Zach Schuster’s comic series, Thrud. Thrud is mute, so the whole story is narrated by some god spit she finds in a hidden cavern that she only breaks into because she has Thor’s iron gloves. Ragnarock’s already occurred, but the artist makes everything vibrant looking, and there’s a charm and whimsy to it that feels like this kind of humour.

I've watched this video like 10 times, it's my newest comfort video. Here are some of my favorite parts: - Ymir dying and dropping all the Minecraft blocks - "Oh look a tasty-looking tail!" *chomp* "Ow! Mmm, pain flavored!" *chomp chomp chomp* - Wirtten by Snorri Sturluson - Jake's Vanir that he made (I was gonna try to choose a favorite but I can't bc they all make me laugh) - All of Fjalar's poems - Loki's infomercials - Brokk's brother, The Sentient Sewing Needle - a ruler taped to a can of beans to form the approximate shape of Thor's hammer - Thrym with his little hat and bowtie - Hymir cutting Thor's fishing line - "that was. my favorite cup" - Thor in the cauldron - "next time someone threatens your life, try dying" - "if you want to stem a river, you gotta cu it off at the source"

Great video as always... If i recall correctly (which, maybe i don't) but isn't it a misconception that gungnir always hit? Doesn't it just say that it ''never stops in its thrust'', meaning that he still has to aim? (again going from memory, but thats how i understood it at least)

28:32 - I was thinking this story is very very similar to Geirrodur the Troll King (a story in a book I have called 'Myths and Legends') but then I went and found the book and realised it was the very same... (except there was no giant- fluids in the river)
