North Wilkesboro Speedway Repaved

NASCAR's North Wilkesboro Speedway has been repaved for the first time since 1981 as it prepares to host next year's All-Star Race.

Amazing to see this happen considering what the track looked like just two years ago. So glad this track and old school tracks are coming back! Now Nascar needs to fix the short track package and it will be the 1990's again.

Hopefully they didn’t go with diamond-grinding for the repave. Remember Charlotte 2004-2005 and Indianapolis 2008?

Does anyone know if they are continuing to renovate the grandstands? I was there last year for the trucks, and it looked like restoration was still in the works. LOVE LOVE this track. I'm so glad it's back in business, pumped for the repave, and I'm also so happy for the residents of North Wilkesboro!!

The Texas track only got on the schedule because North Wilkesboro closed. The Texas cookie cutter track is horrible and the races are unwatchable. Destroy it and turn it into an industrial park with storage units

I say shut down Texas Motor Speedway and let’s run N. Wilkesboro in the regular season.

It was repaved last year, but no plans for a NASCAR national series race yet.

They're still working on the facilities. This is just my gut, but I believe North Wilkesboro will be back on the regular season schedule in 2025 and Rockingham will move into the All-Star race slot and probably have a truck race the same weekend, just like this did with Wilkes.

Makes no sence. Repave the track but try to make the pavement act like it's old. Leave it old then. Or how bout just repave it and quit trying to make certain racing. Just race on it

It was all patched up and in really bad shape. The drivers said it was rough and the patches added traction, making it more of a single line track. 42 years is a long time.

It wasn't going to last. The track surface was literally falling apart.

They had no choice but to repave it. The old surface was 42 years old. While it went many years with VERY little wear and tear from racing, (NASCAR had last raced there in 1996) there was virtually NO maintenance done to the track surface for over 20 years. They raced on the old surface last season for nostalgia purposes, but expected to repave the track after that one weekend of racing. The old surface barely survived that weekend. They had no choice but to repave it.

Ah yes, 42 year old pavement is notorious for lasting forever under 3000 pound cars going 100 mph on it for 3 hours

Buddy I felt the same way but the track was coming up during the all-star and the cars tour races. 40 year old asphalt can't handle those goodyears anymore. Glad they got 1 race in on the old paving.
