Hi Jason, I really love what you're doing. thank you for doing what you do. I was kinda wondering to hopefully speak or chat with other nurses in Home Care in Kaiser. Specifically the Case Managers. How they operate they daily activities how they manage their time, and how's their case loads and workloads for the day. do you know of anyone from the Norcal, SoCal. I am curious to know. I am a Case Manager here in SoCal, Kaiser Tricentral and it always seems like that the productivity they wanted for us are not REALISTIC.

I was waiting for this video! I just came back from Sacramento and did the live scan:) It was very hot but surprisingly so cool in the shade! NY is so humid.. I decided to move to Folsom when we get the CA license approved! BTW I had worked in the nursing home for 4 years and then have been working in OR for 6 years now, am I considered for 6 years or 10 years of experience? Thank you always!
@NursesToRiches
@NursesToRiches 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, so cool! I'm glad you guys have decided to move. Folsom is such a beautiful place 😀. With regards to your previous experience (4 in a nursing home and 6 in the OR), you should receive 1 year of tenure, for salary purposes, for every 2 years of previous experience. So, that means you should (don't quote me on that) come in as a Step 5 when you join Kaiser. So, if you look at the charts, the ones with the experience listed from 0 to 31 years of service (or 1 to 31 years of service) you will fall under the 5 years of service parts.

The good news is that there are many people moving here from other parts of the country and with that comes a higher amount of revenue earned from taxes collected by the city. This should hopefully also mean that more money could be allocated to areas that help reduce the level of crime like investments in education, job training, social services, and a stronger police force.

@NursesToRiches

Thanks for the comment! When it comes to your question: it really depends where you're looking to move to. At the moment, real estate prices are still at their all-time highs, and trying to buy in the cities closer to the coast line is almost impossible on a nurse's wage. That's why Sacramento was the city most Californians to moved since the pandemic started-it's one of the most affordable, while still being close to the bay area. But prices here have increased dramatically as well because of the mass influx. However, you can still find a house here for under $400k, unlike the bay area. Also, every nurse that we know wishes they would have moved to Sacramento sooner because it really is a hidden gem for nurses that want to get paid bay area wages while having access to housing that is much more affordable than the bay area. So, at the end of the day, you're the one that's going to have to weigh the pros and cons of moving here in two years. I'll continue to make videos and keep everyone on the loop about life here in California. But if there's any questions you may have along the way, feel free to let me know. Best of luck to you!

Just curious because I just got a job with Kaiser starting at benefited night shift step 2 pay because I have 4 years outside hospital experience. The following year when I’ve worked with Kaiser for one year total will I move to the next pay tier which is 67.09 and also get the percent pay raise the union just negotiated for the nurses on top of that ? Sorry if that’s confusing just trying to figure out how the raises work. 😅

You would come in as a step 5 if Kaiser accepted your experience because the max they give you credit for is 10 years and every two years of experience is treated as 1 year. So, in my charts, if I mention the years of experience, they would be the same as the steps. If you see 5 years of experience in my chart, that is what your rate would be.
@Blurrystarscattered
@Blurrystarscattered 2 жыл бұрын
Actually another huge difference I didn’t realize and maybe you didn’t either was that Kaiser So Cal steps are based on years of service at start not years of experience. So I’ve been a nurse 21 years but I started on Unac step 2 wage in So Cal so I make 59/hr but with the way you say the wage grid is in Sac. I would get 5 years of service credited for my last 10 years of work and make 83/hr that is huge. I’m getting serious about moving there now.

First day of work as a nurse counts as year 0. One year employed as a nurse counts as 1 year of experience. You get credited one year of service at Kaiser for every two years of experience. And you get credited a max of 5 years of service, which is 10 years of experience outside of Kaiser.

Can you explain why northern california have higher salary? is it because the cost of living in north cal is also higher?
@NursesToRiches
@NursesToRiches Жыл бұрын
I mentioned it in another comment. And the answer is simple: the nurses in Northern California are part of the California Nurses Association union and those nurses don't mess around. They to on strike if they don't get what they want. And the union consists of over 30,000 nurses. So, that many nurses going on strike is very detrimental to Kaiser's image and operations.

@@zenzen2347 I’m not gonna recommend that you relocate to California from any other state. The taxes are absurd, gas is $6 a gallon, and housing prices are exorbitantly high. The pay is much higher, but it doesn’t make up for the cost of living. I’m moving out of state the second I can!

@@RandomGrump I’m still doing my research. Hence, why I said that I’m “thinking” about moving out to California. Since I’m a new grad, I want to have a pleasant first year of new grad residency experience to avoid burnout. I’ve heard great things about the safe patient ratios and the strong unions in CA. My move there would be a temporary stay (no longer than 2 years.) Simply to get the most supportive new grad experience then move on and get in to get out. I’m sure there’s several ways to make anywhere you live more affordable i.e. renting a room vs an entire house, driving an electric or hybrid car, living below means, and the list goes on. If you don’t want to share the city that you are in as a new grad, just say that lol. I’ve been looking into Redding, CA but so far I’ve read/watched mixed reviews. So, my research continues lol
@RandomGrump
@RandomGrump 2 жыл бұрын
@@zenzen2347 I understand! There’s definitely a lot of opportunities in CA. I can’t promise you will avoid burnout simply because of patient ratios. I think that has a lot more to do with your company’s and unit’s culture. I don’t work at a unionized hospital (I prefer it that way). I work at a non-profit. The benefit of that is the hospital actually puts its money where its mouth is when it comes to patient care. There isn’t a ton of cutting corners, which makes sense because they have to put their profit back into their patients and community. As far as Redding goes, it’s very reasonably priced but there is a fair bit of crime. I would just be careful what part you move to. What kind of nursing are you looking to get into? I am a CVICU nurse and I work in Napa County, but live about an hour from there. If you’re interested in trauma or cardiac, I can definitely make some recommendations. I have some friends working in Chico at their trauma center and absolutely loving it. My main point is, the problems that exist in nursing exist here in California too. Yes, we make more money. But $120,000 a year is a drop in the bucket with how much it costs to live here comfortably. I have friends working in the Bay Area making almost twice that and they have to have roommates! 😅

Hi, thanks for the comment! Experience from out of the country is going to be considered on a case-by-case basis. Usually, experience from countries like Canada, Europe, and Australia/New Zealand is looked at in almost the same way as experience from within the US. However, experience obtained in other countries is going to have to be evaluated differently. Although, I should mention that I work with many nurses from Nigeria, Kenya, and Senegal. So, it definitely is possible to get hired within the Kaiser system, as an RN that was trained and has worked in any country in Africa. With regards to salary, I cannot tell you for sure but you would likely start as a step 0 or 1 when coming into the Kaiser System.
