I had a GW store manager tell me with a wink, and in the voice of some kinda imperial official, "No need to worry about the streets of necromunda, the imperium has it passified." In other words, don't get into Necromunda. I didn't really understand at the time as I was asking him what it was about, and that was his response. This was not my local store store so I just responded, "alright but, fair" and went home.

I’ve definitely forgotten a rule or two and then after the phase gone “ah crap, I forgot to do a thing.” And that’s it, if my opponent goes “eh, it’s not gonna change much, go ahead and do it.” I’ll double check “you sure, it’s my fault, I forgot and did the turn too fast.” And if my opponent decides that they want to let me slide then I’ll make sure I don’t do it again.

Necromunda is terriblly unbalanced, but its not an unfun game, unless you take every loss to heart. Some stuff like flamethrowers are broken, but then you just have to target them down.

Whilst allowing for genuine errors and forgetfullness, the bit that annoys me about soft cheating is that either A) the person is obsessively trying to play a perfect game and is being inconsiderate to the opponent or B) they use tactics like this to get their own way unfairly. Players that are more adverse to confrontation will get pushed around, made to feel bad and cheated out of their good plays just so someone else can get the feeling of superiority... Its frustrating, however i think the biggest skill we learn in 40k is conflict resolution. Learning how and when to stand your ground to resolve minor disputes whilst still keeping the enjoyment of the game. Its magic when it happens and a great transferrable skill. Hearing the stories about the old GW manager makes me nostalgic for what GW used to be. If they were still like that I'd actually buy models instead of 3D printing the living shit out of it all

I quite like that ragged fellow, I imagine most of his stories are funny, based and has lessons I can learn and adapt to real life. Hope he and others like him share more I got a sinter mischievous chuckle out of his story.

I too was a GW manager in the 90's and early noughties. It was a great place to work, until it wasn't, but, in general, many more good times than bad. The games, campaigns, events, players and the friends I made there too made it all worthwhile.

I’d bet most of GW top brass have barely even picked up an Airfix model in their lives. Let alone know what a model hobby is about.

Never knew you could play as Gungans in Necromunda. But I might just need to clean my ears probably. xD

I find the real unbalanced part of Necromunda is the Ash Wastes. While its loads of fun to use vehicles and have larger gangs overall. The issue for me is that with all the extras Ash Wastes brings in points to build lists is that you're gang can bring really strong weapons earlier then in a normal campaign. Still a fun game in my opinion.

All of these fantastic stories and musings from Mr NorthernExile make me want to get back into Warhammer again. But I don't have a spare kidney to pay for the models.

This is what it's like to play IRL with people who save scum in video games.

Selling GW products at other stores was a necessity because expansion outside of the UK would have been impossible due to local competition. Hell the expansion into America would have still destroyed the company if not for the pure luck of the expansion happened right when the comics book industry collapse destroyed FASA, bankrupted WotC and made the likes of Palladium and PD9 a shadow of their former selves. The GW collapse can't come fast enough to allow the American industry to finally recover.

Hello, fellow necromunda player here since 2017, here to clear up somethings: 1. You can only allocate wounds to other models if the target fighter is standing and active, by the sounds of it, if the leader was shot at, he is techincally pinned and has to use an activation on it. 2. When a pet/body guard gets the allocated hit, they themselves are pinned and have to use an activation to get up, it sounds like he was trying to not only allocate wounds to pets and treat them as being activated despite being hit. 3. Overwatch is a skill and a card tactic you can put in your deck, you can only overwatch if your fighter is standing and active. Truth be told, it sounds like the first story had two nightmares: the writer writing in and his opponent "re-interpreting" the rules.

I played Necromunda and fun game, if you dont play against competative cheesemongers. But since GW doesent support the game for Germany anymore, there arent much players left.

10:05 and back then, (I’m imagining this is pre 8th edition) you’d have to have rolled for your deep strike, and you got the Hit or scattered favorably. I kinda miss that (of course I would deep strike my riptide and be like “PREPARE FOR TITANFALL!” And really loved gambling with deep strikes, it’s why I stay away from roulette lol)

I have played a fair bit of Necromunda, and ran two campaigns at our club before covid. It's definitely a game where you need to take off your competitive hat, and put on your narrative one, otherwise it won't be fun for anyone. Balance between the different gangs is not great. Same thing for weapons. But the worst thing is all the gimmicky mechanics they introduced in the later books that, when combined, can create horribly unbalanced combos. You need to either have a group of people that know how to restrain themselves, or you need a campaign organizer that is willing (and competent enough) to introduce a fair amount of house rules. If you have either of these things, Necromunda can be a really fun game, especially when played in campaigns. But you need to take it for what it is. It will never be a game that is fun to play competitively.

You can definitely min max in necromunda and ultimately make a gamg that no one would want to play against. It just sucks when youre olaying in a campaign and some folks know more and thus just make better teams. And its one of those things that when your in the know of whats good and what isnt you can pretty much dominate.

Is necromunda this unbalanced?? Short answer: Yes, but it's meant to be played over the curse of a campaign and gang growth is different for each gang. It's also still possible that notoriously lousy gangs can beat a very good gang depending on tactics and dice rolls. If you're min maxing you're kinda going against the spirit of the game and overcosted units are brought because they are fun rather than min maxed. In relation to Necromunda's rules, if you measure anything it means you can't take it back as there's no pre-measuring and any mistakes made that would affect the game are final - too bad.

Necromunda is amazing!!! Definitely unbalanced though. Its all about the narrative and should be light-hearted.
