Entire 30 year history of a great relationship with my father, thrown in the gutter for no other reason than his new wife deciding i was rude for having a gassy outleak in the kitchen (after eating their sour cabbage mind you). You have no clue when even the closest family member just suddenly out of the blue decides to break all family ties for literally zero reason. You cant predict this shit man. If we were going on month 4 and my lufa was starting to look and feel crispy, I might say something after a few more weeks(joke in these trying times?). If it was his established girlfriend he's had for a while and that you're familiar with you'd be the asshole, but a new girlfriend who you hardly know is a completely different story, and it's honestly suspicious how she has just moved in right off the bat. Agree. I feel like the sane reaction would be to acknowledge that booking the separate seats was a strange move, then either offer a solution or ask the wife to go with it just this once. Then the sane response from the wife should be "Of course, don't worry about it it's not a problem.". The amount of people completely refusing to acknowledge that it was a weird move by the MIL is so odd to me.

I'd be pretty livid if my spouse was crying about first class on our way to my dad's funeral. It would've revealed the type of person she is and what her priorities are.

Now in sane mind one would never speak like that but given the circumstances it is understandable.

If my MIL purchased us tickets home because of a death in the family, I would be extremely grateful. It was petty and spoiled. Seems find to be honest.

I think it's closer to 70% OP for severely overreacting, 29% MIL for buying two different plane tickets seemingly out of spite, and 1% the husband. I wish there was a "the husband was stuck in a bad situation, but OP and her MIL are definitely both assholes" option, but that's not an option, so it's an ESH for me.

@@HotCrossJuns thats the part i really cant get over. While grieving her husband MIL specifically and purposefully took the extra time and energy to get them different tickets. Theyre both being petty and i normally love petty but someone literally died. Tbf though husband had a point, MIL didnt even have to buy them the tickets at all
