The more I watch your videos, the more I appreciate how different your Scandinavian culture is than our tropical culture, and yet how similar in many respects. We don’t get an opportunity to experience dreary depression inducing winters, but then, have the same issues with democratic government and coping up with people different than us. Loved your video. Wish you do more Q & A in future times 💛💐

A (late) suggestion for job interviews: Try to find a way to talk good about yourself "through the eyes of others", like "the people I have worked with before have told me that...". This is a way to "brag" about yourself in an "humble" way, the norwegian way. Norwegians are obsessed with good work-environment, even leaders and business-owners. A recent survey concluded that finding out if you "fit into" the work environment was the most important issue for 70% of interviewers. Your resume tells about your formal qualifications (you should always send one with your application) and your application-text tells about your non-formal qualifications. If you get to an interview they usually consider you qualified and your personality in relation to the current straff is what they are looking for.

As a Minnesotan and Scandinavian decent (Norwegian and Swedish) I understand about the long, long, long winters. It's kinda funny they came to the US and settled in the same climate. Why not go to a warmer area? We stay for family and we believe it keeps the riff raff out. After all not all people can take this kind of torture. The isolation, darkness, cold, snow. You may not see any neighbors for a month or so. But the good thing is a huge snowfall brings everyone out to help.

Hi from the UK 👋. Just found your channel and love it. I'm half Uganda half Scottish. Brought up in Scotland and now live in England. Also have Norwegian relatives and friends. Been to Norway loads to and love the place ❤️ especially the winters. Even meet a Norwegian guy and fell in love. Sadly he doesn't love me 😟. But it has inspired me to learn Norwegian 👍. Hoping to spend the summer of 2018 in Oslo learning Norwegian properly. Maybe even one day to live in Norway. It's good to hear Norway is mostly friendly and no more racest than say England. It's my biggest fear, I don't want to move to Norway and feel like I'm intending. Rather I want to intergrate with the Norwegians and we'll fit in. Thank you for all the information. Well see what the future holds. 👍

Some of the questions you covered here, I have also asked him about in the past. Interesting! Oh yeah- btw: I think you are alluding to Seasonal Affective disorder, when you spoke about anti-depressants. The time/season change may affect some people's moods. I used to assume Norway had the highest suicide rate because of this disorder (but this is false). Thank you always for your videos! 🌞🌞🐬

@YOURWAY2NORWAY
@YOURWAY2NORWAY 7 жыл бұрын
Hehe, here is my straight answer; My mum is from Chile, my father was a Sami (Aborigines in all the Nordic countries). The Sami people has long been suppressed by the Norwegian state. My grandmother was a refugee in her own country, during the Second World War. And we are a rich country. So if we dont help - who will? I dont mind so much. Really. But thats me - many have totally different opinion in Norway.

That's so interesting what you say about Norwegians talking about Norway vs about other countries. I have friends from all over the world and my friend from Norway is the only person who seems to mention Norway in about 70% of our conversations. There's no chance of forgetting where she's from with her hahaha Nobody else mentions their country even half as often.

Thanks for sharing your views! I know of two who have decided to make the move from my country (Singapore) to settle in Norway. Having visited Norway once, and read up about the country's systems and values, I can understand why! Certainly no country is perfect, and there are problems you have to deal with - which country in the world doesn't? For instance our healthcare system has a high out of pocket element even though our taxes are low. I think I prefer paying high taxes rather than to worry that medical care will make me bankrupt! I think your scenery is unbeatable though, I'm already missing the fjords and the hiking trails.

Hello Eveline, we are happy that you liked this video and Norway. Its true, no country is a paradise. Neither Norway. But the welfare / healthcare system that we share with the other Nordic countries is unique. And a part of our "dna". Free acsess and treatment is the norm here. So are high taxes. Private actors are pressing, so this may change in the future. I hope it does not happen. But there is a debate here that more should pay more. These voices are also found within our current government - that's right wing. When it comes our scenery - absolutely all Norwegians agree with you. Thanks for watching and commenting :)

I’m sure watching one of your other videos, that you don’t eat a lot off fresh food and the weather can be a problem , plays a part in people suffering depression. I am English and I used to feel depressed in winter. Now I live in Spain 🇪🇸 the weather makes such a difference. Sun ☀️ is a great booster to health. Vitamin d is so necessary. Maybe instead of all the antidepressants Vitamins and diet should be considered also. Sorry I’ve messaged on this blog. I wasn’t quick enough to write on the other. Any way enjoyed the insight to Norwegian life.

Hi, just subscribed.....Seems that Norway and Scotland have very similar cultures.....yes we like a drop of the hard stuff now and again, and socializing outside of the family there is usually alcohol to be found.....not so surprising really when you Norwegians ruled over half of it.....I was born on the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides.... I think that it could be the only place to have one language....Gaelic (pronounced like garlic without the r) and all the place names are in Norse.......from what I can gather the family village was once the stead of a man called Toll.....so I think of the Norse as part of my ancestry...... Love from Scotland💞

Thats an interesting topic; Norway and art. Whats our relationship with different expressions. We have some old icons, like Munch and Ibsen. But modern art is more unknown and not so much in the media. Except music. We are just entering a new phase for Norwegian populare music - and Norwegians are proud of the young artist. Good luck with your Erasmus in Oslo, Fishroads :)

I am an American with Norwegian heritage from North Dakota, my family came here around 1850, they were the first ones to turn the sod on what we call the Great Plains; the home of the Native Lakota, and Dakota people called (Sioux) aka Indians. They seem similar to the Sami people of Norway, living in tents, except they rode horses and lived off of the bison instead of reindeer. I enjoy listening to you, it is interesting that some of those things you say about Norwegians are still customary for older American Norwegians born before and after WW2 up to the 60's; but not so much among the younger ones born in the 70s and 80s and beyond. They mostly think they are just white. Imagine just being called a color with no heritage or ethnic birthright.

@@YOURWAY2NORWAY Carhartt was born in Detroit in 1889. 126 years later (on August 27th, which happened to be our founder Hamilton Carhartt’s birthday) we opened our Flagship store. We are located at 5800 Cass Ave in Midtown (on Wayne State campus) in a building that is in the national historical buildings registry. The people who brought the store to life and built the gem of our retail owned store fleet were union workers that are natives of Detroit and Michigan. The wood that is used throughout the store is reclaimed lumber from houses that have been torn down in Detroit (and each piece is stamped with the address that it came from). American standards for work attire are halfway between casual and formal. At most office and field jobs, male laborers wear shirts and either trousers, khakis, or dress jeans, and female laborers wear blouses or sweaters and, nowadays, trousers.

Hi Girija Bhatta. Happy to hear that you liked our video and want to study in Norway. I cant answer your first question, but her you have a link about the topic from the Norwegian government: www.udi.no/en/want-to-apply/studies/ If you can not speak Norwegian, I would recommend on eof the biggest cities like; Oslo, Bergen, Trondheim, Stavanger or Tromsø. In the city you can find work without speaking our language. Norwegian people are kind of introvert and shy. Many foreigners find this challenging. They think we are arrogant. But the truth is that we are shy. So if you are in real need - we will rush to help you. But you might find it difficult to get Nrwegians friends. You guys should go to Amsterdam on holiday and smoke some marijuana. I live in Oregon, on the west coast of the US, and marijuana is legal here, not just medical but recreational too. You can go and buy it in a dispensary, which is a shop that sells marijuana and related products. Several states have legalized it now. It's a growing trend here in the US. The Federal government still says it's illegal though, unlike Canada where the Government has totally legalized it.
