Norwegian Farmhouse Brewing at NBHQ | Epic Brew Day Recap

Northern Brewer recently hosted a one-of-a-kind brewing demonstration featuring four traditional Norwegian-style farmhouse beers overseen by two farmhouse brewers visiting Minnesota from Norway, Ivar Geithung and Johnny Pedersen. With support from St. Paul Homebrewers Club and other local homebrewers, Ivar and Johnny produced beers from four regions of Norway [Heimabrygg: Voss-Style Hard-Boiled Ale; Stjordalsol: Stjordal-Style Alderwood-Smoked Raw Ale; Konnol: Northwest Norwegian Style Raw Ale, and Eastern Norway Style Boiled Mash Semi-Raw Ale] which included a LOT of unique ingredients and techniques that American homebrewers are not used to seeing or tasting.
Join us Tuesday, October 17, 2023 (7-9pm) at Northern Brewer HQ in Roseville, MN to sample the beers brewed at this event and talk with the local brewers who took part in the brew day and fermented the wort.

Great to hear it! We also had a follow-up tasting event where I did quick interviews with the brewers involved and get their tasting notes on the beers they took home to ferment. Coming soon!

Do it! But also be aware that not all juniper is food-safe. Do your research or contact a local expert or university extension to identify non-poisonous varieties. We used common juniper in our American versions we brewed back in May and June (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Juniperus_communis), the variety Ivar and Johnny brought from Norway is different for sure.

This is amazing work!! I am sooooo going to do a version of a sahti one day, now that we are in NE we have plenty of evergreens and I'll use maple as a fermentable as well. This video is very motivating.

Sure would be nice if I could order a pack of US-05 yeast from NB for LESS THAN $25, because they can't figure out how to do anything other than UPS shipping.
