Darkwing Duck and DuckTales actually took place in the same Universe. There are crossover episodes between these two.

BloodyMastersword I don't know if its considered cannon, but I remember a disney comic arc about an evil jeweled necklace that possessed whoever wore it. It spanned across rescue rangers, darkwing duck, ducktails, and goof troop just from what I remember. So at the very least I believe those shows all take place in the same universe.

Why doesn't anyone mention "The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh"? The show is great with it's characters and the situations they are in, the voice acting espically the original voice of "Tigger" Paul Winchell. There is also plenty of episodes to make you feel good like "Donkey for a Day" or "How Much is The Rabbit in the Window".

There was an episode of Darkwing where he went to the real world, where the writer of the real world show, DWD. He's used some device to tune into DW's universe frequency. At the end of the episode, the frequency gets screwed up and the writer tunes into the Rescue Rangers verse. So yeah, they take place in different universes.

Like with Duck Tales, I'd like to one day see Doug do a full on review of Darkwing Duck. That was always and is still my favorite Disney show as a kid. Ducktales has a full review of how great it is, which it is, but Darkwing Duck only got a little more than a few minutes. It deserves a full review because it has very interesting and detailed characters and also Darkwing Duck is very much still and always will be the Terror that Flaps in the Night.

I actually never watched the Disney Afternoon since I was too young to ever see it (I was born in 94), but the first half of those shows (Gummi Bears, Tale Spin, Ducktails etc) were always on Toon Disney. I did think these were new shows and something I had never seen before until I was about 7 and was taught that at the beginning of books and end of TV shows there are copyright years of when it came out and was shocked to see the year on them.

Tetsu Deinonychus Brand new episodes. But it looks like only Russi Taylor will be reprising as Huey Dewey and Louie. Before you get angry, it's better to recast Scrooge now than have Alan Young (96) die from old age while the show is being produced. June Foray (Magica De Spell) will be 100 by the time the show premieres

Scott Sandler Alan Young will always be Scrooge to me. That said, he recently got to reprise his role in the Ducktales Remastered game, so he was able to bring Scrooge to life recently. Man, whoever's getting the role of Scrooge in the new show will have some tall shoes to fill.

I could see Gummi Bears, Gargoyles, and the Fluppy Dogs TV special all taking place in the same universe. (I don't think that was the intention, but hear me out...) Fluppy Dogs villain Wagstaff could be a descendant of Igthorn, (they have the same voice). Wagstaff is a wealthy man who collects mythical creatures - perhaps he was who inspired Xanatos to acquire the Gargoyles? :)

On TaleSpin taking place in the 1930s, the Wikipedia article puts it well: "The time frame of the series is never specifically addressed, but appears to be in the mid-to-late 1930s. The helicopter, television and jet engine are experimental devices, and most architecture is reminiscent of the Art Deco style of that period. In one episode, Baloo comments that 'The Great War ended 20 years ago,'[15] suggesting that the series specifically takes place in 1938. Radio is the primary mass medium, and one episode even briefly alludes to the characters having never heard of television.[16]"

The third Aladdin film is actually pretty good. Yeah Genie gets a bit annoying but it focuses on Aladdins (SPOILERS) relationship with his estranged father, the songs are great and the animation is much more decent than the second one. Not as good as the first but still quite good as far as direct to video Disney sequels go.

+theAngryscotman I find it the best of the Disney sequels; it's actually good. Robin Williams is hilarious, and we've got a great story about Aladdin and his father. It's a major step up from the Return of Jafar and a good finale to a good TV series.

+theAngryscotman I would argue that Aladdin and the King of Thieves is easily the best DTV Disney sequel, as well as the second best Disney sequel in general right behind The Rescuers Down Under. And that's not just because they had Robin Williams returning as the Genie. The animation almost gives you the impression that it was meant to be released in theaters and the writing and story made you feel like the producers actually gave a shit about what they were making, unlike most Disney sequels. If you love the original Aladdin, you owe it to yourself to check it out. It's a tremendous improvement over the lackluster Return of Jafar and okay-ish animated series.

Goof Troop was not the first time they decided to place Goofy in a suburban setting. I remember the shorts from the 1950's in which he was renamed George Geef, and sometimes he even had a son who was simply called Jr.. Those shorts were really fun to watch because they were a little edgier. George Geef was considerably smarter than regular Goofy, he could also be Grumpy and occasionally even psychotic. Maybe Goof Troop would've been a little more memorable if they had implemented some of George Geef's characteristics into Goofy. It would've made him a more 3-dimensional character. Just imagine Goofy as a divorced father, getting drunk and getting into fights with Pete. It would also have made it easier to accept the idea of Goofy having had sex at one point in his life. I don't now, maybe this would've been too risky for Disney.

dude, you need to do to the early 90's PBS kids afternoon lineup what you did with Disney Afternoon. why? well because not everyone had the Disney channel in the early 90's I live in Canada and we didn't get Family Channel til 1997 after Disney Afternoon wrapped. and now this fall Disney Channel is finally coming to Canada (it's about 15 years too late) my point is that the PBS kids after school lineup in the 90's kind of peaked around 98 (deep down I want to see you destroy Where in Time is Carmen Sandiego, because well that's what I would have done if I did something like that.)

Pretty much agree with what you guys said here and in the review, which is probably my favorite review you've done so far. It really took me back to my days as a kid, growing up, looking forward to getting out of school, when summer seemed like it never ended, and of course the days before all of this adult crap we have to deal with. There was a timelessness of Gargoyles, Duck Tales, Darkwing Duck, and Tale Spin, you could put any of those shows on tv now and they would fit right in.

Jamel Watson It was the best review of Season 7. The joy about being born in the 80s is that its peak 1990-1992 was the period when most kids our age were in elementary or kindergarten.

I liked this, partly because of the Ducktales, (Woo-ooh), and Darkwing Duck mentionings but also that part at the end. "Gadget. Yea or nay?" ... "I wouldn't Chip that but I would Dale that." and that whole section. XD

I seem to recall a satirical news segment with some guy named Steve Mackerel (sp?) that ran during the very end of the whole block. Was that part of the Disney Afternoon, or was that something else? I could have sworn it was part of it. I vaguely recall news segments being about Disney characters, but I could be wrong. Edit: also, Sexy Gadget...yea.

I think they should take a look at the Disney DTV sequels. They have a lot of potential either for praise or bashing, and rightfully so. They're what epitomized and cemented Disney being a milking sequel machine, IMO. A statement which I feel is unfair at times because those DTV sequels were technically made by a different division of the company and not their head animation studio.

Funny as it is, Tailspin, Rescue Rangers, Goof Troop, Ducktales and Darkwing Duck are all in the same universe. this was confirmed in the amazing "Legend of the Chaos God" five parter from the Disney Adventures magazine, where all five casts had to deal with an anceint god of chaos names Solego. It was an awesome little story, and it even took in place the fact that Tailspin takes place between the two World Wars while the other shows are roughly present day for the time these shows were on.

I love Mighty Ducks! It's definitely not a deep show, but it was fun to watch because it was an anthropomorphic superhero show. Disney may have been on too much of duck kick, but hey, animal superheroes have always been fun. Although, one crazy thing I've realized is that one of the writers, David Wise, recycled two scripts from Transformers for two episodes of 1987's Tmnt and MIghty Ducks. What the heck.

I'm about 6 years younger than Doug but I grew up on a lot of the same shows (sometimes due to reruns) and then also the next generation as they came out. I can't remember very well but I don't remember a similar afternoon block that we had. We did have a pair of competing morning cartoon programs but they didn't do Disney or Warner Brothers. Ihink I watched all these shows "Disney Afternoons" on Saturday Disney. Cable never really took off here in Australia so this was talking free to air. We also had a few of our own shows and all the old British kids programming. I had a point but I'll have to come back and add that later...

There's a comic book that sets Darkwing Duck, Ducktales, Talespin and Rescue Rangers in the same universe. Although to be honest such a thing is far-fecthed in the case of RR as Rob points out, there are humans in that universe.

Seeing as you did a full review on the Disney cartoon block, I'm kind of wanting to see one on some of the other cartoons in different eras. I'd like to see things like discussing early 3D animated shows like ReBoot or Cubix, or shows on WB like Jackie Chan Adventures. Compare early Nick shows like Rocko's Modern Life with early Cartoon Network like Dexter's Lab, Powerpuff Girls, and Samurai Jack.

About the Universe, well... Donald Duck characters, Goofy and Chip & Dale all existed in the Mickey Mouse series, so we can assume they are in the same universe, however these cartoons showed different incarnations of the characters (for example Chip & Dale never appear dressed in their Rescue Ranger clothes in Mickey or Donald cartoons, and Monterey Jack and Gadget never appeared), so these series likely take place in a different universe than the classic cartoons, therefore we can't assume that they also take place in the same universe as one another. To add to the confusion, a slightly grown up Max, classic Chip n Dale and "Jungle Book" Baloo appeared together in the House of Mouse series. How is it even possible? (there also are Heuey, Due & Louie looking like their Quack Pack incarnations, but they have their attires switched for some reason) Well, since House of Mouse frequently mentions Disney works as fictional, the most fair assumption is that it takes place in an "overuniverse" where Disney characters are actors that played their respective roles in their movies and cartoons, sometimes based on their real lives (for example in this universe Chip and Dale are two mischievous chipmunks that also happen to be hired by Disney to star in classic Disney shorts that realisticly represent them, as well as, with new stage costumes, in their own TV series that's pure fiction). Such overuniverse is pretty common in fiction, we've seen it in Looney Toons and The Simpsons as well, and is sometimes miscalled "the real world" for promotional reasons. This doesn't help though, since the question is do these fictional tv series take place in the same universe? Let's get to it: as you said Darkwing Duck and DuckTales are clearly connected; then in the Goof Troop movie there's a cameo by Mickey and Donald, but again this proves that *A* Donald exists in the Goof Troop, not that the whole Quack Pack happened. Sadly from what I can remember right now there are no other crossovers in the shows themselves, so we must switch media: many Disney afternoon cartoons were adapted into comics on the Disney Adventures magazine and there has been occasional cross-series cameos, including an entire 5-part story titled "The Legend of the Chaos God" that crossed-over TaleSpin, C&D Rescue Rangers, Goof Troop, DuckTales and Darkwing Duck. So there you go, if you accept the comics, these 5 all happen in the same universe. I believe there was also a reference to the Mighty Ducks in some comics, but it was like only on a poster, so it's arguable whether it promotes an actual team existing in the comic's universe or it just promotes the show, that would then be fictional within the comic itself. And... That should be about it. Depending on what you want to consider you can make your mind.

Now I have to google that cosplay... I totally agree with the analisys, and interesting theory that modern animated shows are good because of the influence of the 80s that the modern creator grow up. I never saw Quack Pack nor Goof Troop, I was already to old for when they came, and I'm glad. I did was a hugh fan of all the others. Did you know that Quackerjack's name in Spanish was "QuackJoker" (Cuackguasón)
