I'm not even sure Walken was cast in some of these movies. I think he just wandered on set while they were shooting, and the director was just too stunned to call cut.

My favorite Walken line is from 'The Rundown'. A herd of cows is released into his camp and during all the commotion, the cameraman pans to him just to have him look straight into the scene and say 'That's alotta cows'. Gets me every time.

At the pizza place where I work, there's this big walk-in fridge where we'll keep the cheese, dough, sauce, and other things until they're needed. I went down there to get some paper plates from the back, and as I walk past, I glance at the fridge and there is a picture of Christopher Walken on it. There is also text. It reads, "Christopher Walk-in". I thought it was so funny in a kind of stupid way, but it's a pun, so it hits my weak spot.

@nobunagaspectre10 жыл бұрын
"Whether you think he's a good actor or a bad actor" Darling, no one thinks he's a bad actor. He is bizarre, but he is also subtly brilliant. The Deer Hunter, Catch Me If You Can, Prophecy, The Dead Zone, each one taken on their own demonstrates his abilities as a dramatic actor in addition to his already considerable comedic cred.
@OpenMawProductions10 жыл бұрын
Indeed.
@Croyles10 жыл бұрын
He's bad in that he can never actually play a character, he always plays himself. It just so happens that 'himself' is so dramatic and weird that it doesn't matter. There are quite a few actors like this, the ones that stick with us and help make a movie better (even though technically they are not good actors) are the ones that have a very distinct personality. They don't need to be able to play other roles.
@nobunagaspectre10 жыл бұрын
Have you ever seen the Deer Hunter? Or Sarah Plain and Tall? No trademark Walken wierdness there. Straight dramatic film acting. Only more recently has he become associated with comedy and is usually sought in films to play characters specifically written for him.
@Croyles10 жыл бұрын
I actually haven't, I'll make sure to check them out. I can only speak of the Walken performances I've seen, and most of those he just plays Walken. I think the first film I remember seeing him in is True Romance. Again, doesn't take anything away from him imo.

In Joe Dirt, Walken's character was an ex-mobster from New York City who was put into the witness relocation program. I would assume the threat to the fire extinguisher was because of his old lifestyle. He wouldn't be able to threaten a person that way, so to relive a bit of the old days he practices a threat on an inanimate object in the hallway.

First time I can remember seeing Walken was when I saw Blast from the Past in high school, though because we were watching the film in class to kill time until final exams, I wouldn't get to see the last half hour until a few years ago. The next time was November of last year, where I watched Communion in Riff Club, which we followed up with the Fatboy Slim video for "Weapon of Choice". Only then I realized that he was the same man who played the father of the male lead in Blast from the Past, which I had finally gotten around to finishing by that point. And after seeing this video later that same month, not only did I FINALLY figure out there are so many "More cowbell!" jokes in comments for videos that play "Don't Fear the Reaper", I began to realize why everyone makes such a big deal about him. From what I can gather (as well as what I've observed), he's extremely unpredictable in just about every regard save one: whatever he does, be it dancing, singing, reading, acting seriously, behaving in a silly manner, Christopher Walken always makes sure that he's enjoying himself nonstop. Even in Blast from the Past, which seems to be one of his least eccentric performances, you can't help but notice that Walken is having fun. He just seems like the kind of person who can find amusement in just about any circumstance and for whom boredom is a concept that does not apply. I have no doubt that he'll live a long life, but no matter how old he gets to be, it's clear to me that the life he's lived so far has been a happy one.

LOL the off-hand "love you" they added to that first Walken call was a nice touch - that's certainly something anyone familiar with Walken could imagine him doing XD Personally I'd have made this a top 12 list and included (although I'm not sure exactly where in the list I'd put it) his role as the Exterminator character from Mouse Hunt. I once saw a movie Walken was in called, "The Seven Psychopaths," and his role in it was surprisingly tragic and he played it really well. It was one of those very rare performances where he was genuinely serious and you could actually buy it with no comedic slant to it whatsoever. He played this mastermind-esque plotter who brought together a group of people who were all charged with killing someone if I remember correctly. I don't remember how exactly, but the guy who was the target ended up having a one-on-one conversation with Walken. He then tells the guy a story about an Amish farmer whose wife was killed in a hit-and-run auto accident. The Amish farmer tried to kill himself and failed, leaving a massive scar across his neck from where he had to have this throat basically sewed back together. Walken then takes off a scarf he was wearing and reveals that he was the Amish farmer whose wife was killed and the man that the Amish farmer was talking to directly was the one responsible for his wife's death. I don't remember much of the film at all, but I will always remember that singular performance by Christopher "The Man Himself" Walken.
