The People's Court

Күн бұрын

The plaintiff hired and paid the defendant to install a dishwasher and a hot water tank, but she claims the defendant did half the work and disappeared, so the plaintiff is suing. The defendant, a recovering addict, says he asked the plaintiff to stop smoking weed and drinking while he was working, so the defendant left. The defendant is countersuing for harassment, slander, and false claims.

That’s outrageous that he had to pay for an electrician and plumber for her! She knew he wasn’t a professional and she was more than happy to have him come and do the job on the cheap. Crazy verdict.
@JeremiahLOsborne
@JeremiahLOsborne Жыл бұрын
I think the main problem was that he wasn't qualified to do the job from the beginning. He never should have touched that hot water heater, and as the professional he should have told the customer he didn't know really what he was doing. Instead, he told her he would put a bandaid on it, and then she could call a real contractor. Unfortunately, he did more damage then good for her. And because he screwed up even further what was already a broken situation, he had to pay to make it right.

The plaintiff, like so many others, goes looking for a bargain and they get what they deserve. They don't want to pay what a professional quotes them, so they get an unqualified 'Johnny the handyman' to do the job cheaply.

As JM always says - "the cheap turns out expensive" - but somehow the plaintiff didn't up paying the extra expense, the defendant did! I believe the plaintiff assumed the risk of hiring a "handyman" - he came over on Xmas day - you get what you pay for! The plaintiff sounded vindictive when talking to Doug - saying the defendant might go to jail for his involvement - well she doesn't sound like a saint either!
