This is regarded as a pretty even matchup in melee. Marth wins on the ground and Link wins in the air if he's below Marth.
But, when this happened my mind exploded.

As a Marth main, the link mu has to be played patiently (like all the mid tiers mu) this marth was a bit aggressive at least for me but you managed to reverse the match. I like how you didn't give up, Keep it up man! (Im here rooting for your success)

why would anyone willingly wanna play against a zoner if it isnt in bracket? i mean think about it would u wanna fight link over and over again or go fight fox, marth, captain falcon and the sort? its a pretty obvious choice... link might look cool to watch but its certaintly not fun to fight

Naw we could have won it out with fair but I missed the spacing for it and went with nair instead. Just a slight misplay on my part. Our beloved hylian can have his cake and eat it to, just takes a ton of skill and execution practice

Fsmash or Nair might have been the better option. 2:07 Marth's SideB was crazy, and you tried to get a bomb out. Probably would have been better to roll or wavedash. === Cool Moments === 0:35 The Marth countering and you grabbing in the wrong direction was funny. 3:55 The bomb into Bair was a great setup and had great spacing. I have never seen a Nair to UpB edgeguard. Pretty nutty. 4:11 The combo was filthy. If you faired before he UpB'd you, that would have been hype.

Yo this is cool of you to do! Thank you for the feedback I'm taking notes! Def agree on the dash attacks. Gotta work more on my movement in the neutral and doing less Hail Mary options. Luckily on my last stock at least I stopped doing those. Yeah weak nair / bair to up B is a true combo as long as you can get the weak hit underneath your opp ( very much like weak falco upair combos ) then you gotta fast fall for about 2-3 frames and up B for best results I knoooow lol I was gonna go for fair to finish but I did the spacing wrong so went for nair instead to cover my bases. The up B from the marth though was pretty clutch and I didn't expect it. Good play by them imo

One thing I love to do against Marths, is bait out their forward smash. If you know its coming, and have a feeling, shield. Even with push-back, you have time to grab them and put them in up air strings for quick damage, or down throw up tilt for a set up.

Exactly! Though on netplay sometimes I input shield and nothing happens so I eat the fsmash lol. Def something much more consistent to do on CRT from my exp

@RedXLink Yeah, I feel that. Sadly a lot of inputs get ate up, or you'll see a flash from your hit and nothing actually happens. Not much you can do there 😅 good ol net-play haha

I know that the theorycraft for this MU has been "Oh Link does pretty good" for like a billion years but holy FUCK Marth's ability to just keep swinging feels so unfair. So much has to go right for you to get advantage on him and even then you dont get the luxury of "Ultra Combos" on him like you would a Fox or Falcon. You played that comeback beautifully though. That was a quintessential "never get lazy" showcase if Ive ever seen one.

I feel this but I think it's cause of how versatile he is. Imo he can play every mu but it's gotta be done in somewhat specific ways. Like he has all the counterpicks but you still gotta match the right counterpicks to the right opp. It's really hard cause of all the options + variables link has to offer

Personally I think it's an even matchup cause if Marth is on point with his grab tech chases and edgeguards he can literally 0 to death link easily. He can also juggle link well when Link is above him However, getting in on link is incredibly hard and if link is below Marth it's awful for Marth.
